I watched my friend play again last night, and he chose to meet Ramsay at the gate, and then only let him and Whitehill in. But then Ramsay still had 20 soldiers walk through the door. How did they get in? I'm pretty sure the gate closed after only those two came in.

In typical Telltale fashion there's no way to change the outcome, even though it's somewhat ridiculous from a plot development point of view.

I liked the first episode but it felt like it couldn't step out of the shadow of the main show.

For example the whole Forrester family just seems to recycle the starks character for character. You have the stern noble mom who will probably make bad decisions in the future or the noble dad who obviously picked the wrong side of the conflict.

Yeah this is what irks me about it. Would love to play through a unique story set in this world. Not really inclined to see fall of the Starks v2, seems like lazy writing to me.

Yeah the whole new cast just feels like a fan fiction that copied the better known characters in the series.

Not to mention trying to cram a similar format as the show in terms of trying to tell multiple plotlines.

Basically working out to be 3/4 different plotlines in 6 episodes.

It also loses points for not having any natalie dorner duckface scenes.

I liked it a lot more than the pilot episode.

Did a much better job at fleshing out all the new characters, instead of just feeling like well known character cameo galore.

Does murdering the Lost Legion dude instead of smashing his knee or letting Baksha kill that random legionnaire change anything?

I hope we eventually get a chance to strike back at the Whitehills with full force because they're basically just pure dicks.

i imagine it typical telltale fashion it might cause a minor story change in a future episode.

Mira is a nice twist since instead of being helpless like Sansa, you at least have a chance to do some minor scheming to hopefully help House Forrester.

I'm taking off points for not having enough Natalie Dorner duckface

Rapist? I certainly got the impression he was there to assassinate her not rape her.

He pretty much tells Mira certain people in court have wised up to her schemes and want to knock her off

Oh, seconding that! The first episode is off to a great start. Plus the game is heavier on the exploration and interactions, which I love. It's kinda like Gone Home (which you also might want to check out) + Telltale's Walking Dead/Game of Thrones + Dreamfall: Chapters, with some high school angst thrown in. Don't know if that last part will be a positive or negative for you though.

it will also punish you with a hipster soundtrack

Do I need to know anything about Borderlands to enjoy the TellTale game?

Not really the whole setting is basically wild west in space and the series has enough quick exposition to fill in the gaps if you never played the source material.

I like how the culmination of Asher's arc was just to get a army of 8 gladiators.

Most of the concept is constrained by the whole canon straight jacket. You can't have things like Ramsay getting served or Tyrion escaping his predicament.

I think Borderlands or Wolf Among Us ended up being more interesting since they didn't have canon straightjacket.

That's what i loved about walking dead season 1, it was same setting and rules but otherwise got to go wild, still surprised how they could gently caress up season 2 so bad, I'm pretty much done with telltale after thrones but I'm for sure done if season 3 of walking dead has Clem as the player character again, she was the worst

It would would be just better to use the setting IMO and try to avoid main characters.

For example having a group of people try to survive the war torn Riverlands would be more interesting than not Starks noble house making bad decisions plot premise.

Not to mention trying to ape the book and do multiple plotlines at once meant each individual plotline is pretty threadbare.

I have a feeling you're right... I'd imagine this is a money train for them that they'll want to keep rolling as long as possible.

I wonder how much of it is them being constrained by having some of the voice actors from the show on, and having to write them into the plot. The game is really at it's best when it's dealing with Asher and Beshka, those parts are actually fun and fit in with the game play style much better. Like was already talked about, just making the game The Adventures of Asher and Beshka could be way more engaging.

Yeah plus cutting it down to a single main plotline would flesh out each episode much better, instead of trying to tell 3 different storylines in 6 episodes.

It also has all the cheesy bits in which the game reminds you how yes they got actors from the show to do a few bits of voice acting.

This series has cemented my decision to just wait until all the episodes are out before buying a season from now on. I'm looking forward to getting to play all of Borderlands at the same time since by all accounts it's a much better series than GoT turned out to be.

Borderlands was really good since they captured the atmosphere without the need to recycle stuff from the source material.

Tales from the borderlands is the closest thing to TWD1 quality, it helps that its lighthearted and that the playable characters aren't in an authority position like in Thrones, so when people boss them around and don't listen to you it doesn't feel forced

It also felt like a original story, while the Game of Thrones was trying to ape/carbon copy all the plotlines from the source material.

Also lots of look who dragged out for a meaningless cameo moment
