Ferrari's main problem is a personnel problem.

Ferrari's main problem is that they've forgotten how to cheat. McLaren, then Brawn, then Red Bull and now Mercedes. They've all bent the rules and/or broken them to their advantage whilst Ferrari have kept their noses clean.

Ferrari used to be a disgrace because of their cheating and whining. Now they are just a disgrace because they are poo poo.

Human Grand Prix posted:

Ferrari will not be bad next year.

Ferrari have Kimi and they have lost Alonso. They will be beyond poo poo next year.

Apart from Vettel.

I'm gonna rant and I don't know what my intent is here. I've just got some feelings bottled up about a lot of things I'd like to get out. This may not be at all what you think, though. This rant was sparked after reading many articles disputing Hamilton being deserving of the SPOTY award. More specifically the comments about F1 being boring and sport not being about gears and space age technology. This rant, then, I suppose is just me venting a bit about why I think F1 is so awesome. Read this or completely disregard it, I just want to write about F1.

As I have been watching for the first time the great seasons of the sport's past I've seen at least one season from every decade (that I have access to footage from). My watchlist so far consists of a radical 1978, an exciting 1984 and '85. A Schumacher/Benneton '94/'95. Alonso's two championship years - 2005 and 2006. A truly epic 2007. Not to mention watching every race of 2014 three times. I'm currently watching as I type this the British Grand Prix of 2008.

I just started watching these old seasons after getting a new laptop and finding the 1978- 2012 torrent in just November of this year. Yep. I've watched eight Formula 1 seasons in just a month and a half with the goal to watch the whole torrent before lights out in Melbourne 2015. (I do indeed have a life still! I attend school full-time (utilizing my winter break now) and work as a cook at a restaurant part-time)
So, what then? Typical Amerifag got sucked into Top Gear (U.K. of course) a few years ago, which eventually led to my investigation of F1 towards the end of 2013, got psyched for 2014 through the off-season via /r/formula1[1] , I fell in love with F1 through 2014 and am now incredibly passionate about the sport (so much so that I've watched 8 seasons in a little over a month). That's my story, but what's it got to do with anything?

Well, for one it shows my ability to dedicate myself to something and hold onto it with everything I have if I really want to which is a huge boost to my self-confidence. This in turn shows the power Formula 1 can have on people. Mostly, though, I'd like to think it shows that although 2014 was my first season, I'm not new here.

I, of course, dream of myself being skilled enough to achieve a drive on the Formula 1 grid. Unlikely, though, as from what I have seen it is clear just how much it takes to do what so few can.
Since discovering motorsport, I compete in Karts as much as time and money will allow (money will not allow much) and I've learned some things.
The typical 10-minute session I do at my local track has me pretty good and tired by the end. I'll always take a little break between each session. Driving on the absolute knife edge of my abilities for ten minutes is a huge task. You quickly notice just how easy it is to have a minor lapse in concentration and drift off-line and wreck your lap time.
Formula 1 drivers go for nearly two hours on that edge in the World's most powerful cars on the World's most demanding racetracks. The G-Force generated under braking is 5G, enough to put an average golfer's head in their lap. Their necks are thoroughly trained and strengthened to withstand such braking events for 50+laps of a Grand Prix.
I'd like to see a footballer even sit in an F1 car let alone drive the thing. Think texting and driving is hard? Try adjusting your brake bias and engine mapping at 300+ Km/h getting ready for one of those 'head in your lap' braking events.

What about Monaco? I play an unhealthy amount of the Codemasters F1 games with my steering wheel setup. I simulate a 100% race in Monaco in the W05, starting from the back of the grid, clawing my way through. Two hours later and I'm dripping sweat in part due to the constant but subtle arm and leg movements but mostly because of the sheer concentration required to drive around the narrow streets of Monte Carlo. Watch Lewis here in 2008 to get a modern example of what it takes to drive 76 laps of Monaco.

I am not here to defend Hamilton has SPOTY. I am here to defend the extremely understated sport of Formula 1.

Grand Prix racing began pre-WWI.

Since the 1950's it's been an organized World Championship where the best driver's and constructor's came together to compete for the coveted WDC and WCC.
It's been 20 years since the death of Ayrton Senna in 1994, but no one can forget the absolutely brutal amount of deaths in previous decades. Jules' horrifying accident was just a reminder that these guys are still putting it all on the line.

It's 2 in the morning? What am I doing with my life? Watching Hockenheim 2008 and writing this rant . Let's wrap it up simply then.

In direct reply to golfers and footballers comments:
Formula 1 is the realest sport. Formula 1 driver's are athletes to the greatest extent as they show an absolute sense of control on the edge of what physics will allow for two hours. If you say F1 is boring then you haven't watched a season and simply can't because your attention span couldn't handle it.

Formula 1 is a sport very much about the mind working in tune with the body which then works alongside meticulously engineered machinery. The accuracy, reactions, and concentration required to do the job that these men do is quite literally unfathomable. You can't just be bigger in size than your opponent, you can't just be more physically fit, you absolutely must be mentally strong which I think is the hardest part.

Formula 1 is so understated to the public eye and deserves so much more credit.

I'm tired now so I'm just gonna kinda teeter out of this post.
I apologize for the rant. I was really bothered by the comments by footballers and golfers calling F1 boring, etc., and this was the result.

Far too long; didn't read:
F1 is the greatest sport in the World and Formula 1 drivers are among the most talented human beings in terms of skill and mentality. I am too passionate about F1 and could no longer contain my emotion so I stretched that out into too many words.

That's it. I'm out!
