I tell myself I don't enjoy improv but then I listen to eight minutes of Gareth pretending to be a fishmonger who used to be in the frog dealing business but left it long ago, but actually if you prove to him you're the real deal and really love frogs he's secretly still holding. And I laugh the whole time.

Holy poo poo, in Boston Busing Riots part one Gareth makes a joke about the white protestors holding hands and singing We Will Overcome. Then in part two they discuss a protest where they actually sang that song :laffo:

I've listened to this but it's been a while.

I'd still bet Gareths reaction is "What is happening, Dave?"

Episode 500 is Eugene Debs. I'm mildly disappointed it's not Kissinger but Debs is a figure I've wanted to know more about

Karen Kilgariff is a guest.

Debs is one of the few great Americans. At least, that's what I've always understood; hope things don't turn out to be terrible. :ohdear:

(Kurt Vonnegut thought highly of him. :swoon: This is from some Debs-related acceptance speech Vonnegut gave.)

Where the hell did Garet get the word "anywhosesylby" instead of "anyways" from? I've never heard anyone say it but him.

No clue, I think it may have been a spur of the moment thing he came up with

That super quick bit in part 2 of the Eugene Debs special about the guy following Debs in Leadville, CO, had me laughing so hard I almost had to pull over. The timing of it was just immaculate.

I have used versions of "anyways" for as long as I can remember. "Anyhoozle" is a common one, I just think people develop lots of various ways of saying it over time since its a very common transition word.

I think it permuted over time into that, I remember him using anyhoo and the like early on.

Is it that time again? I nominate the following:

1904 Olympics with Rory Scovel
Cereal Men with Patton Oswalt, if only for Gareth's realization halfway through
Harriet Tubman, same as above
The Fine Cotton Scandal with Wil Anderson

Oh, and honorable mention goes to James Otis, just for the last five minutes or so. He's the guy who "Babe Ruth'd being hit by lightning" (which is such a great turn of phrase).
