Welp I guess this won't help change the cowboy image that Brit cops have about American cops. http://www.foxnews.com/us/2014/12/05/austin-cop-sure-shot-stopped-crazed-gunman/ quote:Holding the reins of two horses with one hand, Austin Police Sgt. Adam Johnson raised his service pistol and fired a bullseye into the target some 312 feet away.

Yeah I'm not a gun guy by any means but there's gotta be a relatively large amount of deviation for a pistol at 100+ yards. Like a perfectly zero'd service weapon with issued ammunition, locked into a stable base of some kind, is still bound to deviate how much at that range? Like 2-3 inches? Insane odds when you introduce all the variables. edit: unless... Victor Vermis fucked around with this message at 10:33 on Dec 6, 2014 |

I live in Finland and the problem here is more and more cut budgets, we have a whole bunch of unemployed cops and the actually employed ones have to basically pick which calls they are gonna answer to because there are so few cops and even less time. Recently we had a rally here where the commissioner received a bunch of thrash bags full of toy police cars, which was about playing with the lives of the civilians or something. Now every place is full of security guards, because you need somebody to take care of stuff.

Well, repeated budget cuts and lower starting wages have meant that the quality of recruits has dropped and low morale with lack of resources has resulted in a high level of attrition in experienced front line officers. There is a general feeling that you have to do a harder job with fewer and fewer resources (I see a vast amount of unpaid overtime going on) and one hand tied behind your back. In central London the average house price is about half a million pounds, a constable in their first 2 years of service would have to spend 24 years pay to buy a house. I'm an unpaid police officer in the best funded force in the UK so I don't have to deal with the poo poo that the regulars do on a daily basis but I'm sure the other brit cops can fill you in, especially Hezzy. At least Chartley (A Scot officer) works for a force that seems to operate with more common sense and public appreciation.

People who can't get anywhere else or what? There are obviously plenty of decent recruits but too many fat, lazy, stupid and dishonest people finish training and don't get rooted out until they are on borough and an Inspector has to sack them after a lengthy 'management action' process. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special_constable All the powers and duties of a full time officer, although specialist training is very limited, but none of the pay. I do about 100 hours a month paired up with a full time officer attending emergency calls. 'Specials' used to be looked down by regulars but since they froze regular recruitment and they only took specials in to the full time force something like a quarter of the MET are ex-special constables.

Yeah...no agency provides that level of training to a police officer, I'm guessing. Maybe the guy trains on his own, but I doubt for a shot like that. Just imagine the hellfire that would have ensued if his shot would have hit a bystander instead "COPS SHOOTING WILD! KILLED AN INNOCENT MAN! HANDS UP DONT SHOOOOOOT!!!!"

Several 911 calls about a guy walking down the middle of a busy road on the double yellow line. Multiple people saying they almost hit him or another vehicle trying to avoid him. Show up and have to order him out of the highway while blocking rush hour traffic so we both don't get killed by a passing truck. All this for what you might ask? So he can make a show of his "Hands up, don't shoot" routine. What the gently caress is wrong with people.

Some drunk teenagers knocked down my mailbox last weekend, so this weekend I'm installing some surveillance cameras and the camera system was cheaper than buying a new mailbox.
