I kinda like the Transformers movies as a seeing is believing/what the gently caress is even going on spectacle. Every sequel contradicting the previous entry along with Optimus becoming more of a face ripping psychopath each movie is a fun trainwreck to watch.

Not to mention by Transformers 4/5, the series is not rewarding the increasingly annoying "protagonist" to all the chaos, but actively going "Look how much this guy sucks". That tone helps so much.

I don't think I've seen a single frame of the fifth Pirates movie. The last few weeks I'd been trying to think of what the subtitle was but I couldn't even do it. That movie barely exists to me.

Star Trek: The Motion Picture is a boring movie
I thought the 5th Pirates movie came out back in like 2015. It's barely 3 years old, May 2017. I usually remember something about movies that I've seen, but I can't remember a goddamn thing about Pirates 5.

The only thing I remember about Pirates 5 is that Depp had to wear an earpiece to feed him his lines since he couldn't remember any of them. And it really, really shows.

Here's the thing, I'm a feminist.

I can remember the exact moment I dipped on the Pirates franchise. It was the second movie, during the voodoo priestess exposition dump. The movie had been tedious so far, but it felt like it was setting up the rules of the finale so I figured there was another fifteen, twenty minutes left at the most. When I checked, there was still an hour and a half remaining - I wasn't even halfway through. The rest of the film had remained a mystery until the recent episode.

I don't know how I didn't know there were 5 Pirates movies until WHM announced they were covering all 5. Or maybe I did but forgot. I had MoviePass at the time it came out and I was using it to see a lot of movies in theaters, even stuff I didn't really care about, but I never saw Pirates 5 until last night.

It was a pretty poo poo movie, so I missed nothing by not seeing it in theaters.

This is my first time watching Melrose Place so I can enjoy the syncable commentary and there's so much to enjoy even just in the background. The Apple IIe or whatever in their apartments bring back so many memories.

Man, rewatching No Country for Old Men before listening to the episode on it is so much better than doing that with the Pirates movies lol

Beer_Suitcase
May 3, 2005

Verily, the whip is ghost riding.

I worked in a small 5 screen theater when No Country for Old Men came out. I've probably seen it on the big screen at least 10 times.

Near the end of its run I would get into the habit to watching the last 15 minutes or show of every screening on my shift to see how the audience reacts to its abrupt finale.

Most of the time as soon as Tommy Lee Jones finishes his last line and it smashes to black at least one person in the show would just go

"WHAT?"

and then there is this weird awkward bit of pure silence where the rest of the audience is collectively trying to determine if anything else may happen like a mid credit sequence or something.

As a theater employee all I want you to do is not make a mess and GTFO of the theater so I can clean up your mess and then do drugs in the parking garage, repeat.

So during this lull I would loudly proclaim from the exit "YUP, THATS IT. ITS OVER. THE END"

Don't you tell me my business again.
These guys are so great I swear to god. This is by far my favorite podcast. MY coworkers think I'm insane because I randomly burst out laughing on the production floor or at my desk.

Just being able to make me laugh by making fun of a movie or TV show I've never even loving seen is quite an accomplishment. Most satire like that requires actual knowledge of the subject or seeing it in real time like MST. Their callbacks, timing and ability not to step on each other as they riff takes real talent. And holy poo poo had no idea there were FIVE POTC movies.

Been binging thru the Melr0210 episodes after a month of free SIrius radio and for some reason, after watching a few clips of the show, I don't get the Billy impression even though it cracks me up. Their over the top impression made me go look it up and....He doesn't sound like that? I don't know anything about either of these shows but looking up some clips and... my god they're bad. Not sure what's worse, the acting or the writing. Yee gods.

Anyhow, that's my random complimentary post on this funny podcast.

This is definitely one of the main reasons that I stopped listening to HDTGM and the Flophouse. All too often I'd listen to an episode from either of those shows where if I hadn't seen the movie beforehand, then I wasn't going to get any decent idea what it was about, and all I'd end up with was a lot of contextless riffing. That's never been an issue with WHM, where I've listened to scores of episodes on movies I've never even heard of before, much less seen, where the guys not only can give me tons of laughs, but make me get fully on board with their thoughtful criticism and suggested plot changes.

The dance sequence alone justifies the movie's existence, and everything to do with the communists is amazing.

Admittedly I haven't seen it since theaters, but I remember it just feeling like a bunch of fun but forgettable skits and cameos without any real narrative thrust behind them. Brolin's character was kind of thin, and his debate on whether or not to leave Hollywood never really felt that consequential. It's probably my least favorite of the Coens, but to be fair that's still a lot better than most people can even dream of doing.

Actually, the more I think about it, the movie might have worked a lot better as a Buster Scruggs-style anthology of smaller stories taking place at the studio. Then the lack of a through-line might not have felt like such a missed opportunity.
