I might just check out the flophouse. I'm a huge WHM fan, particularly when they go off on tangents, like seeing someone eating a fish in the cinema.

Listened to WHM's Catwoman at work earlier, don't think I've ever come so close to losing it as their suggestions for how Catwoman should've transitioned.

They're familiar with Dragon Ball Z, and yet they haven't done the driver's license episode for Animation Damnation. This is a tragedy.

Which episode could you pick though? There's either plot-related episodes where very little happens, or filler which doesn't really represent the show's normal content. So obviously, filler episode would be my choice. That or if they pull an episode deep from the Cell saga or something and see if they can figure out who/what an Android is. Animation Damnation is always a good time.

I'd love for them to cover other western-bought japanese stuff. Like digimon, cardcaptors or whatever else was on Cheez TV.

Have WHM ever actually covered a movie they love? It'd be interesting to see them discuss something positively. They've reviewed some movies I would call entertaining (Face/Off) but Jupin normally talks poo poo on everything.

I really wish WHM would cover a movie we've had a huge thread on, like Transformers 2 or Bee Movie. Bee Movie in particular is full of the semi-subtle bullshit that WHM is so apt for.

Animation wise:

There's the 2003 Clone Wars cartoon - that looks like Samurai Jack and is pretty boring/slow from what I've seen. Then there's The Clone Wars, which was piloted by the 'movie' mentioned. That version, from 2008 looks like creepy CG wooden puppets for some reason. Rebels is the most recent and shares a similar style.

None are quite bad enough to mention in the same breath as some of the other Animation Damnation entries. I haven't seen much of any, so I may be wrong here.

There's also a LEGO Yoda series and something called 'Droid Tales'.

As far as live action, I hope they've secured a copy of The Force Awakens and spend four hours making GBS threads on it and telling lies to the internet about what happens.

In total, we're probably going to be hearing a lot about Sebulba.

I'm no big fan, but she had a huge streak of hits, 'Spinning Around', 'On A Night Like This', 'Can't get you out of my head' etc. I guess it's a weird regional thing.

So, Streetfighter. This ep seemed to go pretty qucikly, but I was surprised they disliked it so much considering their taste for MK. I wonder if they'll cover Dead Or Alive, starring a bunch of nobodies, including another Australian pop/soap star - Holly Valance.

It's really bad. It gets thrown around a lot, but it is one of the few movies I've seen that features honest-to-goodness porno level acting.

lol I thought you were talking about the Miike movie for a second.

I barely remember the one you linked but from what I remember it's mostly random fights once they make it to the island, which is about all I want in my dumb fighting game adaptation. Also Cory Yuen is pretty reliable when it comes to directing ridiculous action and the cast is mostly hot ladies. I'm not ever gonna rewatch any of these but I remember liking it about on par with MK and more than Street Fighter.

Would be neat to see them complete the trilogy though of 90s beat 'em up franchises though.

I've never seen Amadeus but yeah, I'm pretty sure I've seen When Nature Calls roughly two dozen times as well. Having been 12 years old and a huge Carrey fan when it came out helps, so does the thing Andrew mentioned where most people just didn't have that many tapes at the time and thus watched the same poo poo over and over. Especially if you're on holiday somewhere.

Terminator 2 is an example of something I'll rewatch every few years but about half my total viewings come from one week where me and my siblings were on holiday at my aunt's place and it rained a lot.

DOA is from 2006. We were meant to have known better.

well why not
Feb 10, 2009

Well, he did DS9 after TNG. He's joked that he was done with sitting in the makeup chair for good - until he saw the offer for DS9. I suspect he was getting quite a bit more than the other DS9 actors. By the end of that show he was basically second lead.

Add that to the voice, occasional movie & TV work, it stacks up.

I'd even go as far to say it's OK to like or dislike movies, but it's not OK to wage online jihad against one, particularly pre-release. The backlash against Ghostbusters 2016 was alarmingly pre-emptive. I fully encourage anyone who likes to laugh at outraged nerds to check out this review:

http://www.brianniemeier.com/2016/07/when-is-movie-not-movie.html

quote:

Hollywood hates you. They've murdered the film franchises you loved and reanimated them as shambling husks. But instead of cloves and sawdust, they've stuffed these mummified impostors with PC dogma. These zombie films' main purpose now is to spread elitist groupthink like plague rats.

Or this hilarious reddit post:

https://www.reddit.com/r/ghostbusters/comments/4s4vx3/ghostbusters_2016_childhood_ruined/

quote:

Unfortunately, I no longer feel comfortable wearing the shirt. The reason is because the meaning has now changed. Instead of being a fun reminder of a time long ago, it is now a political statement. Wearing a Ghostbusters logo today sends a confusing message. Am I wearing it in support of feminism? Am I making a statement that there are only one Ghostbusters team?

...

So, when I say, "It ruined my childhood" what I am really saying is that many of the positive associations I had with the franchise have been replaced with negativity. In essence, the little memories in the corners of my ever failing mind are now clouded by a slimy coating of "Girl Power" and shooting ghosts in the dick.

Basically :

quote:

Baird didn't have a background in Star Trek; he was aware of the films and television series but didn't consider himself to be an expert on the subject

quote:

Despite Frakes being on the cast, and having directed the previous two Star Trek films, Baird decided not to seek his opinion on the direction of the film. He said that there was resentment on set, as Frakes was completing work on directing the film Clockstoppers as production on Nemesis began

quote:

Berman has stated that about 50 minutes worth of scenes were filmed, but cut (though not necessarily all of them were usable in a final form)

quote:

He wanted to add energy to the actions scenes and added some scenes, such as the car chase. He called that scene a "signature piece" for the film which turns dark after the crew is put in danger by the inhabitants of the planet.

quote:

Actors LeVar Burton (Geordi La Forge) and Marina Sirtis (Deanna Troi) have spoken critically of director Stuart Baird, criticizing him for not watching any of the episodes of The Next Generation.[24] Sirtis has bluntly called Baird "an idiot."[25] Jonathan Frakes, while praising both the character of Shinzon and actor Tom Hardy (who played the role), said that if he himself had directed, as he had done with the previous two Trek films, he would have made the film less villain-centric and given more screen time to the regular The Next Generation cast.[26]

All from wiki. I'm sure memory alpha has a lot more thorough explanations of what went wrong. From what I've seen online, it was a mess from conception.

I was confused for the first few episodes I listened to, with all four. The way I'd explain it is that Andrew has radio voice and he does the intros / showrunning so he stands out more. Steve sounds like someone you'd associate with the phrase 'Noted Coward', while Eric has a kind of raspy, bass voice. Chris sounds like a neurotic professor from a NY dramedy.
