I prefer The Flop House to WHM, but WHM is better for chilling out on commutes and helping me sleep. Listened to Entourage episode and now I'm gonna live with a guy who says 'bro' every sentence, so that's weird. Listening to Brainscan now and I kinda want to see it, it just sounds fun and weird. I do think that sometimes they tend to overdo the 'this is how WE'D MAKE A MOVIE' bits, but they make up for it with crazy impressions. Cleeg Lars should be Star Wars canon, dammit. LORD OF BUTT posted:I dunno, Starship Troopers seems like it fits pretty neatly in the Mortal Kombat/Only the Strong zone: it's not a bad movie, hell, it's incredibly fun, but there's a lot to make fun of in it. I feel like they know too much about movies to even pretend ST is bad. It's a spot-on satire that predicted Fox News' Gulf War coverage, among other things. I hate it when bad movie podcasts mock good movies. I bet I Don't Even Own A Television will cover the book eventually. I played in an SA Forum game of Everyone Is John where we were all Gary Busey. I ate Nick Cage's brain to gain his weirdness. Or vice versa. Count Chocula fucked around with this message at 01:21 on Jan 27, 2016 |

LORD OF BUTT posted:Okay, I'd heard that Mystery Incorporated was kind of batshit when it was running. It's amazing. It's got an actual arc, all the characters have really interesting personalities that interact in cool ways - Fred's love of traps causes trouble with his relationship with Daphne, Velma breaks up with Shaggy because he spends too much time with Scooby and starts hanging out with a genius lesbian, etc - and the plot keeps getting trippier and trippier.

Empress Theonora posted:I still refuse to believe that Easy Rider 2: The Ride Back is a real movie that somebody made for real. If the Flop House and WHM didn't both do an ep, I would have assumed one of them had made it up. And yeah the last episode was 36 Chambers of Shaolin (which is great) meets Stripes. But bad?

Is this the first mention of Fairfield County in podcasts? I lived there! Why do they keep mentioning Sin City without pointing out how much Frank Miller did on Daredevil? We gotta spam that 'get over here mom!' voice clip in the comic book movie threads. Count Chocula fucked around with this message at 21:32 on Feb 9, 2016 |

Just noticed that the new FYAD forum title is 'Please don't sing Dragula'. Dunno if it's a coincidence but I've had the WHM guys singing that stuck in my head since the Watcher ep. Not the whole song, just the bit they sing. It's annoying.

Jose Oquendo posted:It sounds like you're not an American. He is probably one of the most famous American TV actors ever. He was in Bonanza which is one of the biggest shows ever. He was the lead in Little House On The Prairie, which was another hit, and as mentioned Highway to Heaven. I grew up in America until I was 18. I was just too busy watching cartoons and playing N64 as a kid to watch those shows. Tons of their references are like 10 years too old for me - same thing with The Flop House. I really want to see Dick Tracy. It sounds like it's visually cool and weird, which is all I want in a movie, especially after a few tall glasses of water. I even likes Cool World, and loved Lucy. http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/summer_movies/2010/06/remember_dick_tracy.html The Phantom was probably made for markets like Australia where the character is much more popular. Like that Tintin movie, which was probably big in Europe. Count Chocula fucked around with this message at 20:10 on Mar 3, 2016 |

Sleeveless posted:My favorite little thing about Rocketeer is that when they watch the Nazi jetpack propaganda cartoon they didn't actually give any of the Nazi weapons in the name of getting a PG rating, making it the least menacing invasion ever. I went to an occult art exhibition and it had his bad black and white photos of naked goths. But I love Dark City, and since I love trippy movies that everyone hates and hate 'logical plots' and boring logic, i'll probably love Gods of Egypt. My bro says it's pretty. Apparently everyone loves Phantom comic books here. How has this gone so long without a mention of the Comics Curmudgeon? I want a sad indie Funky Winkerbean movie: http://joshreads.com/ Is that last song by Jim Steinman? Because I need it. He's got a cool costume and originated the Dread Pirate Roberts thing of a bunch of heroes pretending to be one person. I remember reading an article about why Australians like him so much - it was around a recent Phantom exhibition- but I can't remember why. The other characters that are huge here but not in America are Astro Boy, Alex Kidd, and Doctor Who pre new series. And a Journey to the West show called Monkey Magic, which looks pretty fun. They all make way more sense to me than The Phantom.

I still haven't figured out why FYAD's title is 'please don't sing Dragula', unless is one of the guys. Now that's stuck in my head again. When I saw Rob Zombie at a festival I thought his outfit and makeup were way better than his music.

Calaveron posted:Also I think the guys missed the point a bit about the way the movie presents Schwimmer's character as an rear end in a top hat loser, since that was the entire point. He insisted he was an adult but his room was full of toys. He complains about his mom barging into his room because he's 25 years old but is having a giggly sleepover with a friend and asks her to make them chocolate milk. Wait adults aren't supposed to have rooms full of toys? What about ironic or artsy toys? WHM do seem to miss the point of movies or characters way more than the Flop House, but I've got used to it, and they're way better than How Did It Get Made, or at least the two episodes I could stand.

My ex dragged me to that at a film fest; I didn't enjoy it but she said it's because my tastes were different and it didn't fit my aesthetic, which is fair. He's still influential on art and fashion, and an episode on him would probably turn into a 'sneer at hipsters' fest.
