They should just do a separate regular episode for GL after the live one.

For a movie that's as bloated as Face/off when you step back and look at it on any kind of objective level, it somehow never drags.

Yeah I thought it was barely two hours until I watched the episode and I've owned the movie in some form or another since I was like 7.

When do they do their Listener Request Month? I want them to do Punisher: War Zone. (That would totally loving be a We Love Movies, too.) e: also, yeah, ![]()

I'm calling in Punisher War Zone just because it's absolutely bugfuck crazy, bombed at the box office, and is a lot of fun. It'd also be nice to have a podcast just straight-up look at the movie, the HDTGM on it is almost more of a behind-the-scenes. ![]()

Mortal Kombat Annihilation is absolutely hilarious, but I'm not sure if it's good for a podcast, yeah. Mostly because nothing about it except the plot really sounds bad on paper; it's just all so utterly botched in the execution.
|
![]() |
|
Actually, Annihilation is almost nothing but cheesy lines and bizarre plot points, it's just that they're all... kinda hard to describe, really, or don't sound that bad out of context. A WHM on it would mostly be the crew going "we have no idea what the gently caress we just watched" for an hour.
|
![]() |
|
It would probably make a better HDTGM episode than WHM, yeah. At least partially because the director's probably somewhat easy to find and having him on board would actually provide something to talk about other than "jesus christ that made no loving sense." Which is why I'm (still) calling in Punisher War Zone, because it's enough fun that I'm pretty sure WHM could mine gold out of it without even touching any of what HDTGM covered.
|
![]() |
|
Yeah, I'm calling in Punisher because it's bonkers, not because it's bad. A movie just has to be interesting to be on WHM, I'm pretty sure.

Oh lord, they interviewed Albert Pyun? That must have been... interesting, to say the least. I can't imagine him as anything other than a slightly nicer Uwe Boll.

Man, 1997 was kind of a lovely year for blockbusters. Lost World, Speed 2, Batman and Robin, Air Force One, Steel, Spawn, Kull the Conqueror, and then a brief period of respite before the double-punch of Alien: Resurrection and Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, then Tomorrow Never Dies and The Postman to round it out. Has any year had that many below-average to gently caress-awful "major movie events" before? Like, in hindsight I almost think Titanic did so well because it was a breath of fresh air after the unholy Shitmageddon that was the latter half of that year. e: You could make a solid argument that said Shitmageddon started in March of that year; Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie, The Saint (which premiered opposite Double Team, though I really like that movie), Anaconda, Volcano, and Warriors of Virtue all came out within weeks of each other, and then Lost World was like a week or two after Warriors of Virtue. Literally the only blockbusters from that year that are commonly well-received are Men in Black and Titanic, which came out almost 6 months apart. Gyges posted:How dare you disrespect President Ford forcing Gary Oldman to get off his plane. Other than that one scene (and the inherent coolness of Harrison Ford playing the president) it's honestly kinda crap. The dramatic climax looks like a PS1 cutscene. Random Stranger posted:I wouldn't call a Kevin Sorbo movie dumped on the unsuspecting public a "blockbuster", or even an attempted one. Hercules: The Legendary Journeys ran from 1995 to 1999. Kull came out smack in the middle of that, at probably the single point in history where people would actually want to go see a movie with him in it.

Yaws posted:I didn't. But it retroactively ruined the movie for me. It goes out of its way to be as brutal as possible without showing blood, though. You get an on-screen neck snap with a really nasty crunch sound, that one guy Liu Kang fights gets his goddamn ribcage caved in, Scorpion is just spewing technicolor Evil Dead fluids everywhere when he gets hit with the blade shield thing... honestly it's a little remarkable that they still got a PG-13.

I've heard Hitman is just an ultra-derivative action movie, nothing particularly interesting. I'd be surprised if they did it. Entourage, however, seems like a shoe-in.

I loved the poo poo out of the first movie because I was an MK-obsessed kid and still harbor affection for it because it is trash but has good memories attached. But MK: Annihilation was one of my all-time most disappointing movie-going experiences (the other being The Neverending Story 2. Stay tuned?). I made long rants on message boards about how much it sucked. Honestly I actually really enjoy Mortal Kombat Annihilation but I also have to admit, I haven't watched it in full while sober since I was like 5.

I would absolutely poo poo if they did Death Spa. The best WHM episodes are when they dig up some piece of shlock that time forgot like Pray for Death or Moontrap and end up having a lot of fun with it, and Death Spa is hilarious.

Isn't Kane Hodder kind of a total rear end in a top hat IRL? I've heard some not-good things. Also, you know, I agree with most of the WHM gang's points about Freddy vs. Jason, but it really is kinda more than the sum of its parts. A lot of that dumb stuff, you don't even really notice in the moment because the film keeps up such a constant energy.

They're familiar with Dragon Ball Z, and yet they haven't done the driver's license episode for Animation Damnation. This is a tragedy.

well why not posted:Which episode could you pick though? There's either plot-related episodes where very little happens, or filler which doesn't really represent the show's normal content. So obviously, filler episode would be my choice. That or if they pull an episode deep from the Cell saga or something and see if they can figure out who/what an Android is. Animation Damnation is always a good time. I mentioned the filler ep where Goku and Piccolo get their driver's licenses, which is hilarious and insane.
