Forums Terrorist: you might also consider restructuring how turns work, since we're having problems with fleets getting seriously worn down/gaining too much renown by having to fight 2-3 battles per turn. I recommend instead using Attack Ratings with multiplayer rules, something like this:

Say the fleets in the campaign are Eldar Corsair (Attack 4), Ork Pirates (Attack 3), Space Marines (Attack 3), Tau (Attack 2) Imperials (Attack 2), and Chaos (Attack 2). I'd recommend ignoring the 'fewer system' bonus, since there's no simple way of implementing it in multiplayer.

Corsairs roll 6, 1, 5, 5
Orks roll 5, 6, 6
Marines roll 3, 2, 5
Tau roll 3, 5
Imperials roll 6, 1
Chaos rolls 1, 2

Corsairs (5, 6, 6, 6), Orks (6, 4, 2), and Imperials (4, 5) have a roll-off for top three spots
Tau (3, 2) and Marines (1, 5, 4) have a roll off for fourth and fifth spots
Chaos is last

Now Corsairs (3, 2, 1, 2) and Orks (4, 3, 1) have a roll of for first and second spots
Imperials are third, Marines are fourth, Tau are fifth, Chaos is last

So final order is Orks, Corsairs, Imperials, Marines, Tau, and Chaos.

Orks declare that they attack Imperials, Corsairs declare that they attack Chaos, Imperials don't get to declare because they're already being attacked, and since only Tau are left, Marines have to attack them. So the battles end up being Orks v Imperials, Corsairs v Chaos, and Marines v Tau.

Winners of battles can seize an adjacent neutral world or one of the fought opponent's worlds. Winners of raids can seize an adjacent neutral world, or gain control of one of the fought opponent's worlds for a turn.

Basically, this system ensures that A) all players have to fight the same number of battles per turn, and B) that players can't skyrocket to high Renown in a single turn like Istvun and I did.

Personally I'd be interested in keeping something more similar to now, but with multiple battles in a turn being less of a bonus and more risky. Something like increasing the penalties for losing a battle/having ships destroyed to make it that you only gain renown from subsequent battles, realistically, if you did well enough in your first to keep a fighting force and in the later ones you can win decisively. That sort of thing, especially with a battle-damaged fleet, would be difficult enough that it would be worth more renown that normal for a fight.

And if someone doesn't have a fight in a turn they should have the option of an exhibition match or something in order to get a battle in.

It still works with the map. You just conquer a single world from your opponent (or an adjacent neutral world) if you win a battle, or conquer an adjacent neutral world if you win a raid (or take an opponent's world for a turn). In both cases, you can only take worlds from the opponent you beat in that round.

e: Adjacent meaning adjacent to a world you already control.

The problem is you can't control when you have multiple battles, as such. it just depends on how many people want to pound on you, and how resilient you fleet is to damage.

Well, the number of fights you can have is based on the size of your empire, and there's always bugging the gently caress out right away to take no damage.(or raiding on the attack). And being resilient to damage is already a thing for campaigns because of VPs and repairs for the next turn.

Overview of the changes in Revised edition:

Imperials: Not a ton, mostly minor cost tweaks. The biggest changes are a major cost reduction for Light Cruisers, and the additions of Captains, which give a bonus to leadership and a squadron-only reroll.
Adeptus Mechanicus: All the Mechanicus ships have been modified somewhat from their Imperial forms, mostly buffed slightly.
Inquisition: Made Inquisitorial Cruisers cheaper and made Inquisitors substantially better.
Rogue Traders: I think these are actually identical at present.
Space Marines: Almost identical.
Chaos: Marks of Chaos redone, and made much more desirable. More minor point tweaks and a major cost reduction for the Styx, which gives Chaos better access to attack craft. A few classes of cheap Light Cruisers have also been added.
Eldar: Major changes here. Movement changed to Move-Move-Shoot, preventing the ridiculous hit and runs Eldar were known for. Holofields have also be substantially nerfed, in in exchange Eldar ships now have real shields, smaller crit chances, and completely ignore almost all celestial phenomena. Corsair escorts have had a substantial price increase, and most of their capital ships have had a smaller one. Craftworld Eldar have been given some more ship variety and a real battleship, and while they still have a cost increase, it's smaller than the Corsair increase. Their escorts have also been made Not Useless.
Dark Eldar: Added crew attachments that actually make the Dark Eldar good at boarding. Other than that, they've now got some more variety (including heavy escorts, light cruisers, and grand cruisers) and have had their costs tweaked between weapons to make the good choices less blatant.
Orks: The rework isn't done for these guys, but most of their ships and upgrades have gotten slightly cheaper.
Tau: Almost identical.
Necron: Reactive Hull got nerfed a little bit, and got a bit more variety, again including Light Cruisers. Their cruisers are now substantially more expensive, however. They still seem like they might be OP, but it's hard to tell for sure.
Tyranids: More variety again, most importantly options for cheaper Hive Ships. Escorts and cruisers have been made cheaper and more durable as well. And the 'All Is Lost' rule has hosed off.
