Goons would do anything to troll and grief all other residents anyway to make them unplug. So in the end they would be on a server populated only by goons. If that isn't a bleak horror ending i don't know...

This is literally the first time I've seen anyone suggest that it's a horror ending. It's the one single episode of Black Mirror where the technology is shown to have a (slightly unsettling but) positive impact. Due to the nature of the show I was expecting Kelly to never come back to Yorkie, but she does. I also think if they wanted the takeaway to be negative they wouldn't have included the option to disconnect whenever you want.

I also think its a happy ending. The goon server was a joke. Be Right Back also has a somewhat positive ending, and unless i'm mistaken so does National Anthem.

Ehhhhhh, Be Right Back's ending seems to me that she ultimately failed and never got over her dead ex, didn't read as very positive to me. National Anthem's ending is pretty sad too, dude's marriage is destroyed and for what? Nothing.

I more like read it that she banned the droid to the attic, and only let her child go up there once a year to briefly get to know what her dad was like. It is not know if she goes up there on her own for some other stuff, wink , but I did understand that the droid does not take part in her normal regular life.

Yea but I don't see any sort of new man in her life, I highly doubt any dude is willing to date someone who keeps a living reminder of their ex, so to me it reads like she permanently broke her capacity to enjoy love again. Like, she should have just gotten therapy instead and could probably have moved on and had a healthy life, but this stupid service ruined that option.

The lady keeps a living imitation of her dead boyfriend in her attic. Lady is crazy. I mean it's not even like he downloaded his memory into the robot, it's just a rough approximation of his mannerisms and langauge patters cobbled together from social media. She may as well have just paid a rentboy to have plastic surgery and live in her loft pretending to be her dead boyfriend. Not happy at all imho. Plus that kid is gonna grow up to be hosed up, imagine if your dad was a Roomba that runs on facebook that your mom kept secretly chained up in your loft. Kids gonna need a lot of therapy.

I was genuinely worried that at any second during the end credits of San Junipero something was going to go wrong, like the data was going to get corrupted and their virtual selves were going to be half-retarded forever, or the company was going to go out of business in 20 years and sell the servers for psychological experiments or something

If they ever do another Christmas special I bet there will be a small easter egg about the company going out of business and the servers being shut off.

You honestly wouldn't need something catastrophic to make the San Junipero world more interesting. There are so many questions already. Like, what happens when eternally youthful people live that way for 1000 years? What happens socially when people born in the 1960's and people born in the 2060's are the same apparent age, but have radically different values? Do they just never intersect? What happens if users figure out how to hack the SJ system from inside? Or if the company opens up external VR users beyond the demo? Etc etc.

Starting on season two. Season one was alright, but Be Right Back is a little rough and unravels when the robot shows up. I get that thematically the robot's shortcomings help the woman realize she can't replace her real husband, but what began as a decent chatbot turns into a robot needing to be taught everything. Like what were the people who created these robots thinking? "We've gone through incredible effort to create lifelike robots that people will use as surrogates when their loved ones die so it's like nothing happened." "Should we program them to imitate sleep?" "Nah, just have the avatar of a person who died lay motionless with their eyes open and not breathe. It'll be fine." I realize I'm nitpicking, but it seems like lazy writing and poo poo like that can take me out of a narrative. Sounds like the episodes get better though.

Just found out the actor who plays Bing in 15MM (Daniel Kaluuya) is the lead in the big hit film "Get Out". We'll see plenty more of him in the future, mark my words. (This film already grossed 250+ Million on a 5 million dollar budget + 30 million campaigning budget)

Yeah he's fantastic, I'm looking forward to seeing a lot more of his work. Yet another British actor doing a picture perfect American accent that no one will believe isn't American in 10 years, by the way.

I think he's saying that the concept of black and white media sounds racist, maybe because it has two problematic, racially charged words in it? There's literally nothing else to go on beyond the phrase "black and white" so what else could he possibly be talking about? Also the rest of black mirror is racially tone-deaf, but that's so obvious and universally accepted that everyone knows all about it so he doesn't even need to explain what he means by this.

Oh good the Black Mirror thread is still active. I just finally saw the finale -im sure its been mentioned but like, why have soldiers instead of body suits to shield against bees? my only explanation is the incompetence was 'in universe' -i like the spry GOT HIM -that self driving car was dope -i seriously wonder what accountability may occur for people who left lovely evil youtube comments etc one day. probably nothing because there is just so many of them. i feel like i've maintained a very good track record of posts scrawled across the net over the past seventeen years i've been posting (oh god) but like, there is probably one or two terrible posts i've made which i regret deeply and are very bad but i can't delete them oh well guess its the bees for me? -good music
