I remember there's that shot early on in striking vipers where danny stares for too long at that woman's buttcrack. And the opening part of the ep where they're playing pretend pick-up. Its like the problem is more the distance in Danny's relationship with his wife than anything, and the video game offering incredibly convenient chun li sex to the person he's closest with is what made the problem really come to a head in an ok but not great marriage.

That said... the rain part. I saw it as Danny for sure feeling something and Karl not feeling anything. It's like danny enjoyed having virtual sex with someone he was close to because he felt emotionally close to them, and karl enjoyed having virtual sex with someone he was close to because it made the sex better. Idk it was a really fun resolution either way.

Buuuut the shots of depressed karl and karl buying a cat and committing to being single probably just means they were both lying and were just gay for each other.

I felt like it was making a comment on how difficult sexual orientation can be even for those involved. My interpretation was that Danny isn't "gay" in the traditional sense, he has no sexual desire for man / the male body (note: there is never a role reversal, both stay only in their female/male game characters so they actively choose a certain identity although Karl said he did some experimentation so it's less defined for him) but he does "love" his friend Karl and the sex change in the game suddenly opens up an opportunity which would never be available in RL because of the physical restrictions and I think the scene in the rain is supposed to show exactly that (there is no "chemistry" which is why Karl goes back to telling him it's different in the game).
Danny is simply not attracted by Karl in the physical world (at least not in a physical way) while it's less clear cut for Karl (note: he makes a remark about Danny's physical condition earlier in the episode). Karl is also the one who initiated the whole scenario in the first place and it is easy to see that he always had certain feelings for Danny (his artificial relationships and trying to "stay in the game" are another hint).
It's the (old) question of "would you gently caress your best friend or be in a relationship with them if he/she were of the opposite gender?" I mean that's often a trope in male/female friendships (and probably why there are few genuine deep friendships between the sexes or why the "gay female friend" trope exists) and usually a source of big tension.

His participation is still implied though, as was the use of the video given by his mum, presence at the award ceremony if only to rubber stamp it with legitimacy etc. I mean yeah presumably some streamberry ghoul came to him while he was grieving and pitched it but he said yes.

"The point" throughout the episode was that true crime exploitation has many layers and his own tragedy in the end just added another layer. It should also be noted that the Streamberry version used HIS perspective as the hook, ie young filmmaker discovers the true identity of his mother and loses his gf etc., the previous murders are now just part of his story...
On top of that the whole voyeuristic angle is LITERALLY a core theme of the ep, be it how the murders happen in the first place or how much emphasize is put on the "personal angle", ie it is not really about the "crime", it's about the emotional tragedy you can "exploit". The murders were done for an audience. At first obviously for an "imaginary" audience (though we are hit over the head with the fact that it's a very real fantasy they had, not to mention the fact that his Mother choses to just hand over all the evidence) but Streamberry in the end creates a real audience for these murders. Now everyone can share this voyeuristic fantasy and also gain "entertainment" from it. The audience becomes a part of the crime (metaphorically).

As for aftereffect, if anything it makes a case for true crime docs as positive forces as it presumably completely revitalizes a dead town that should be benefiting from tourism - granted, eco vs crime, but either way the town's back on the map!

That's missing the point of exploitation because OF COURSE it's often beneficial to do the exploiting. If you think showing that exploitation is benefiting someone means it's portrayed as "positive force" then you might be missing the point or ignore any subtlety.

The device in Beyond the Sea was basically the mind transference stones in Stargate Universe. It was fun to see that idea taken to a grisly conclusion that Stargate never would've had the balls to do

I honestly don't think that idea was even really well explored. At first I thought they would go in the direction of raising the question what it means for your own personality if you share your physical form with someone else but in the end the technology / the body sharing didn't really matter. It was just about (toxic) masculinity and trauma (though a bit clunky). So the technology was only there to setup the whole situation but it didn't affect who these people were. It's a story you could tell the exact same way without this specific tech and nothing at all would change.

Surprised people are so sympathetic on Eulogy, not that it's a bad episode, just that it's a story of a dude who sucks and still doesn't realize he's the guy who sucks that late in his life, even when confronted directly with it in what should be spelled out for him. Surprise proposals also irk me in the best of circumstances, and his was selfishly motivated on top of that. I really wanted a dark twist for him but it was him getting some undeserved peace/closure without her ever getting any. I get really frustrated at characters who refuse to see their shittiness for trying so hard to find it in others instead. Very human story but made me hate the dude and no catharsis for it. Just seems like he will still pity himself without seeing how

Eh, I don't know. The woman also just got the pretty tripe excuse of "got knocked up and I just didn't want to tell you the truth because I was so afraid" and she decided for them both to get the kid without talking to him and just leaving a note.
That does of course happen so that the whole plot can happen but if you view it from his perspective it's at least understandable.
I do agree that sudden marriage proposals are also kind of a weird thing but then again, so is just running away and saying nothing in that situation and just leaving a dramatic/cryptic note.
I'd say if there is a big lesson in this story then "talk to each other and assume less about the other person" because that was really the core problem behind everything, both kept making assumptions about the other person. Love is not a replacement for communication. ^^
