I'm not really opposed to Brandon Prust getting hit in the face with sticks, as a concept.

How do blackout rules even work? Apparently I have no idea. Is it that I can't watch Habs because there's a Leafs game on at the same time?

I dont think there are actually hard rules. They just kind of decide them on a drunken whim minutes before the game starts.

the rules for nhl gamecenter are
1) if a game is nationally televised or
2) if a game is televised in your local zip code area, then Eat poo poo, Nerd.

Thought process must be something like "Where's Pacioretty, where is he, poo poo, poo poo, keep looking, he's out here somewhere..."

If a DIFFERENT game you mean?

Because I have two games on TV right now: Leafs/whoever and Habs/Canucks. Leafs/whatever is fine, but Habs/Canucks is blacked out.

Fortunately I have unblock-us and GCL so I can watch the Habs game as I please, it's just SLIGHTLY better quality on TV rather than GCL on my AppleTV so I prefer to watch there instead.

I get the problems that Therrien has with Beaulieu and Tinordi (being young, mobile, good defencemen) but what possible reason does he have to not like Bournival? Dude works his rear end off every shift.
