I have come do a determination that I am tired of working on my wife's car even though it has all been menial things that have gone wrong recently I think I am just ready for a change of scenery to wrench on as I know that all cars are stupid and will break at As we are not having any more babies for the foreseeable future of at least 2+ years we will be happy with another sedan. I have narrowed it down to the Acura TL, body style of 2004-2008, leaning more towards the 07-08 model years as they had a minor facelift with better looking tail lights/wheels. From this age group most are right about at the 105K service interval that requires the timing belt/water pump to be changed. This is beyond my ambition of what I would want to tackle on the "family" car so I would have a mechanic do it. Most from what I can see that would be ~$900 for parts/labor. Everything else I have read about the cars seems to believe that they are solidly well running cars. I would love the Type S model but the premium for those is probably higher than its worth with trying to find one within our budget (car will be paid for in cash). The devil inside of me has also flirted with the idea of a 1st gen Cadillac CTS-V to which my wife was not completely opposed to. TELL ME HOW BAD OF A DECISION THIS WOULD BE

I want a big comfy rwd car. Also steerable is a big plus and comes with/readily can get forced induction is also nice. Seems that wanting rwd v8 with nice ish steering means a lot of cash though.

I actually have one vehicle planned out for sure - a bare bones late model Ranger with a 5 speed, and either the 2.3 or 4.0. A cheap truck is always handy to keep around, and even the last of the Rangers are dead simple to work on. The other would likely be a Fiesta ST in that obnoxious lime green. Barring that, my fallback would be a Cruze 1LT with the 6 speed manual. I had a rental Cruze that had been beaten upon mercilessly (30k, and it was an hourly rental on a university campus, with nearly bald tires and a filthy interior), and the power completely surprised me. It went from "vrroom" to "boiling tires" as soon as the turbo caught up, if you turned off traction control; admittedly it was raining, but my Saturn certainly can't do that even in the rain without dumping the clutch.

A ton of Ford's engineering went into them so they have become pretty decent. The early aj-v8 had issues but the later incarnations are problem free. They use ZF transmissions, but the electrics are up in the air still. I have been really kicking around buying an xk8. Unnnffff

Really strongly considering a Miata. NAs are hitting what I expect to be their price floor in my area. I've seen many for ~$2,000. GF would prefer I buy an E30, but screw her I'm the man of this house (don't tell her I said that)! The 1990's are especially cheap because of the crankshaft, but Ive read a few articles about how to fix that for less than $100 and an afternoon. Kind of want it to be babies first race car, since I'm too wussy to race my bike. I really should sell one of my bikes and a car before I buy a new car though, but that winter price discount on Miatas is hard to pass up!

Getting sick of my old rear end Magna costing too much to run and maintain, along with being absolutely no fun to drive. Looking for a decent and cheap little hatch that will still be fun, thinking about a 205 or a Civic at the moment. Ideally, I'd like to be able to look at the engine and understand it, any suggestions for cars that match this description and are easy to work on?

Something like this with 3 liters of n/a I6. About twice the power of my miata (that I'm definitely keeping) with better fuel economy and space for people and stuff and not going deaf on the highway. I've been looking at them on and off for almost a year and sadly am not much closer to being able to reasonably afford one soon.

Looking at buying a NB Miata after having been without a fun car for a year and a half (DD only). If I were to buy one, I'd probably buy a 2001-2002, hard top with LSD. Preferably BRG or Emerald Mica. Then probably do nickel 6UL wheels, Xidas or decent coils, suspension bushings, and see if I can make some reasonable NA power (150whp) without going too crazy since turbo miatas are a headache to cool on track. I'll still probably wait a year or so to get really serious about the search, then fly somewhere and drive it home so there isn't any rocker rust. Michigan What I really want is a BRZ with a different engine than stock.

It needed a battery and still needs tires too, but once I get tires for it I could probably get close to 2k for it. Also lucked out finding one in my area, they are actually pretty rare, I've only seen a few in the wild. Everyone that's seen it so far thinks I pretty much stole it for that price so I'm happy with the purchase, it will run forever unlike the Chinese dog poo poo scooters, I'll only sell it when I decide to get a supermotard.

In the spring (provided I get a new job) I plan on selling my LTD and selling/trading in 2011 Fiesta then getting a more interesting and fun daily driver. The only really solid criteria is that it's going to be a turbo 4cyl with a manual. The three cars I have in mind are the Fiesta ST, WRX and EcoBoost Mustang. I've driven the FiST and WRX and liked them both, I could live with either. Recently I've become very interested in the EcoBoost Mustang. I don't know why but it seems more interesting to me than the GT and I always said I'd never own a Mustang unless it was a V8. So I kind of fell wrong for wanting one. There is also the Focus RS but it sounds like there's going to be a limited number brought into the country. SFH1989 fucked around with this message at 16:50 on Jan 27, 2015 |

I love my Subaru, it has met all of my expectations of usefulness and reliability- but I'm itching to get a real 4x4 again. I really want to find a clean first-gen Xterra with a stick and no rust. Just do a mild lift and stuff some 32" tires under it. I've driven a few and really liked them. My first car was a 95 Nissan hardbody 4x4 with the 2.4 and a 5 speed and I can tell the first Xterras share a lot of that DNA with the D21/Pathfinder platform. I might even look down south of the rust belt for one when the time comes. e: also I can't wait till I start seeing used Honda Groms on craigslist

My wife has decided we need to replace our Mondeo estate with some sort of mini-SUV. No, I don't know either. It doesn't seem to be up for debate though. We've so far looked at: Skoda Yeti 2.0TDi 140ps - Really great interior, comfortable, super easy to drive. Lacks acceleration though. Nissan Qashqai 2.0TDi - Much better performance and a lot cheaper, but the interior seems to be made out of the world's cheapest plastic and flimsiest pot metal, and it's not really comfortable enough. Going to look at the Mazda CX-5 diesel at some point soon, and the Mitsubishi ASX is apparently "too ugly". Also anything French is out. Anything else in that sort of area I should be checking out? Our current plan is to buy a Yeti and get the ECU remapped up to ~180hp if nothing better comes along. Also vaguely considering replacing my clapped out 2003 Fabia VRS with this beast.

Since I saw the Ariel Atom episode of Top Gear I've been window shopping elemental type track cars. I like the idea of a bare bones road/track car stripped to the essentials, less to go wrong in my mind. Plus access to e Atom's are way too expensive, and then I heard about the Exomotive Exocet. I had my heart on getting a Miata and doing one up. But then I saw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GD3y7ylpqO8 and now I've been looking at C4 Corvettes. I think the C4 makes an ideal platform too as it appears to be double wishbone all around, and they're cheap due to the gold chain factor.

Hey, I'm looking at a 2014 CPO Chrysler 300C 5.7L V8 AWD with a shade over 20000 miles, they're asking 25.9. I'm pre-approved at 4.05% for 72 months so I don't have to play their finance games, right? Haven't seen or driven it yet, just trying to figure out if I'm stepping into a minefield on this. I want a big sedan with a big engine and a good warranty and don't want to pay the massive depreciation of a new car so I"m thinking CPO. At first glance the latest version of the 300 seems like a real good value compared to other stuff I'm pricing, or is it a horrible shitbox that will vomit the transfer case all over the road at the earliest opportunity? This would be my daily driver, and I'll be commuting into Boston, about 15K miles a year. I'm currently in a 1994 Grand Marquis that owes me zero at this point (and is worth about that), I bought it for 800 off the estate of a dead guy who really kept it up. It's over 200K now and starting to make ominous noises from the drivetrain, and it consumes oil with a ravenous glee. Thoughts?
