The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber is about a man whose wife murders him on a hunting safari because he developed the spine to stand-up to the modern (1936) American woman's harpyish, controlling ways. All it needs to be a Mahouka side-story is for Tatsuya to drop by, rebuild Macomber's head with magic and scold his wife on a woman's proper place.

...Hemingway, also wrote For Whom The Bell Tolls come to think of it. Did he have anything to say about wizards?

A good portrayal of racism stops being a point in your favour once you put babies in pet boxes. I really don't care what point the show was trying to make there but it lost me at that point.

You make it sound like the baby box wasn't unintentionally ridiculous and easily the best part of the first episode

I would watch a show with more of that and less rape

Hemingway had some profoundly hosed up issues with women and masculinity to be fair. Was he the proto-light novel author??

Not all light novels are bad. I haven't read too far into Kyokai No Kanata, but the anime was stellar, and I'm looking forward to the movie.

KNK was quite possibly the most disappointing waste of good animation I've ever seen. Every single character was terrible and the story was a big fat nothing.

Between that and Chuu S2 Kyoani managed to disappoint me pretty hard after their string of good shows (thank goodness Free S2 managed to resume that). Main dude's angst over being invincible and immortal was p annoying and none of the characters managed to break out of their light novel-y as hell archetypes.

At least I'll always remember that the bad guy fired a car-powered laser at the sky to do ~bad things~.

Oh, and the idol episode. That was a funny as hell episode and if every episode was like that then the show would have been perfect. That stuff is a hell of a lot more fun to watch than characters going through generic angst.

The villain's motivation and what he was even trying to do was confusing, but the characters were great. I was really invested in them and their emotions.

If I'm remembering right the idol episode was one of the absolute worst in terms of the really creepy incest thing, and it was still far and away the most tolerable episode. If they'd cut the gross siscon and just had the whole show be like that episode it would have been pretty decent.

Hiroomi was awesome, weird crush or not. That wasn't even the focus of the show.

I probably would have liked it a lot more if it was just a slice of life instead of having the supernatural action stuff, which is weird for me to say since I tend to love action shows, but the cast and their interactions was by far the most entertaining aspect.

I imagine the Beyond the Boundary retelling film will be much better than the actual series. They get to cut a lot of the flab and keep the meat of the story. Not sure how good it will be but I'll probably give it a watch. I didn't hate the anime.

He completely misses the point. Yeah, military prisons are pretty horrific and designed to strip you of any authority or control you might try to maintain, but at no point are you given a full body cavity search by a person with a robot arm that causes major physical tearing and trauma. The scene could've been done exactly the same without the metal hand and in a "medical" context and still gotten the humiliation point across. It's blatant sexual pandering at its worst.

Oh, and even the most interesting premise in the world wouldn't be free range to treat female characters like complete poo poo and turn it into fetish porn. I've read the episode summaries, and it does look pretty interesting, but the show would have to pull off some insanely good writing for anyone to praise the show, and even then it would be "The first couple of episodes are really bad, show moves past it and gets better."

Weirdly enough, it looked like Cross Ange's producer publicly apologized for the mistreatment of the mecha in the show and mentioned that they will try to correct it for the second half :v:

Also the director didn't want any of the smut but the producer pressured to keep it because it would sell. Well it did sell, but probably because of the bundled Nana event ticket in the boxes.

Guess who's the producer? Mitsuo Fukuda of gundam seed fame.

Overall I'd say this thread was a success, there's been some good posting here. I'd be interested in thoughts from you lot about whether the formatting could be improved for next year.

My personal view is:

- The requirement for a 3 ep test minimum kept the thread focused on things that people had actually watched. I'd say asking for more episodes minimum would risk losing votes due to the sunk cost fallacy, my reasoning against less is explained in the OP.

- I think giving people a maximum of 5 choices was a little high and is probably why 3 of the top 5 spots have joint "winners". I personally feel that 3 choices would have helped focus things a little.

- Allowing discussion and debate around choices was a definite success.

To put things in perspective, Gundam SEED sold about ten times as much as the show in question. Which is why I don't think there's much of a risk that this will set any major new trends for the company, other than for purely throwaway projects. Now something like Love Live, on the other hand...that's another story and I'd be surprised if Sunrise didn't keep following up on it.

Yeah definitely. I would not be able to take more than three episodes on most of the shows I listed.

Eh. This one could go either way. I definitely only had 4, with only the vague haze of Glasslip, but I'm sure people had all 5.

Heck, Sunrise has been trying to do the same thing with their original mecha shows for quite awhile and try as they might they just can't recapture SEED or even Geass. They'll keep it up but with a different gimmick next time.

With its 6530 vol 1 BD sales, Cross Ange outsold Amagi Brilliant Park (5858), Shirobako (5725) and Gundam Reconguista in G (4701)! You have no right to disparage it in the face of such overwhelming support from the market.

This is from a while back, but why?

It's a show with bad CG, bad action and piggy backs off other anime. Its plot is nonsensical, its worldbuilding is retarded and all the characters are unlikable to the extreme. You could probably find better tits elsewhere if that's why you were watching this show.
The only thing this show offers is misogyny and shocking swerves. Or is that all it takes to win the market over? It doesn't even look good, with the animators clearly not giving a poo poo towards the end.

I already mentioned it, the BDs come with ticket for an exclusive event with Nana thats primarily the reason why it sold. Well hopefully thats the reason.

Its worse than that though, thats just Cross Ange's BD sales. Some on that list include the dvds as well while ange doesnt.
