 We've been in the political cartoons business for twelve more months. Why? Why indeed... It's now time for the Third Annual Gay Abortions Awards for terrible political cartoons. There are twelve categories, including a prize for the Worst Cartoon of the year. The Process: Anyone who wishes to submit cartoons has until 23:59 EST on December 27 to post their nominees. For each category, post a single cartoon published this year. A post does not require a nominee for each category. Every poster is allowed one post in which they nominate submissions for worst cartoon of the year. If you'd like to add to or change your nominees, please edit that post before 23:59 EST on December 27. There is now a bonus category for best edit/parody of a political cartoon made this year. Voting will begin immediately after the submissions are compiled into the post below this one. The votes will be tallied and results announced on January 1st, 2014. Vote for each category by naming the category and the letter indicating that political cartoon. The Judges: Your tyrannical judges are myself, The Crotch, and Koishi Komeiji. We now have enough people to count the votes. The judges may agree to veto any submission, or trim a list if there are too many nominees. Kirschen is a long-running Israeli cartoonist who surprised everyone by becoming even more anti-Muslim over the past few months. Worst Police Brutality Cartoon  Michael Ramirez wins this Gay Abortion Award with 28% of the vote, and also placed in second for this category. This victim-blaming cartoon posits that an unarmed teenager shot to death by a police officer is solely responsible for his own death. Worst Torture Report Cartoon  Ramirez wins his second Gay Abortion Award of the year with 45% of the vote, over runner-up Mike Lester. Many hack cartoonists are known to uses 9/11 victims as mouthpieces for their views, in this case Ramirez's view that torture is acceptable when America does it. Worst The Interview Cartoon  Glenn Foden wins a Gay Abortion Award with 55% of the vote, over runner-up Michael Ramirez. This cartoon about North Korea-backed hackers pressuring Sony into pulling The Interview manages to be both incoherent and racist. Worst cartoon about a tragedy  Ramirez wins his third Gay Abortion Award of the year with 20% of the vote, over runner-up Mike Lester. Ramirez would like to remind the oppressed that any protests will result in the media focussing on opportunistic looters and not the important reasons for the protest. Worst caricature  Ramirez wins his fourth Gay Abortion Award with 33% of the vote, over runner-up Yaakov Kirschen. It looks like Holder's head has stolen all of the extra mass from Wormbama tiny narrow skull. Worst "A Thing Happened" cartoon  Glenn McCoy wins this Gay Abortion Award with 17% of the vote, narrowly beating A.F. Branco. "A Thing Happened" cartoons simply depict events that happened, but Glenn McCoy's racism shone like polished poo poo in a pile of mud. Worst Label  Michael Ramirez wins his fifth Gay Abortion Award this year with 27% of the vote, over runner-up iNCK. We're really getting sick of this guy and his overly cross-hatched cartoons comparing large objects to the size of the national debt. Least concealed bigotry in a cartoon  Stilton Jarlsberg wins this coveted Gay Abortion Award with 24% of the vote, over runner-up Gary McCoy. This is a hotly contested category each year, and Hope 'N Change won because this cartoon slanders some unfortunate stock photo model. Laziest cartoon  Bob Gorrell wins this Gay Abortion award with 55% of the vote, over distant second Michael Ramirez. If I put as much effort into this sentence as Gorrell gave to this cartoon, Most easily reinterpreted  Michael Ramirez wins his sixth Gay Abortion Award of the year with 57% of the vote, over runners-up Bruce Tinsley and A.F. Branco. This cartoon takes a bible verse about The Lord turning weapons into farming tools, and depicts Obama doing something similar. Overall worst political cartoon of the year Michael Ramirez wins the ultimate Gay Abortion Award of 2014 with 43% of the vote, and also takes the runner-up position. Ramirez has a history of winning these awards by using the dead as a soapbox. Best Edit/Parody   Forums user Saint Sputnik wins this delightful award with 27% of the vote, over runner-up Gilganixon. Worst Torture Report Cartoon In your cartoon supporting torture the bad guy is literally performing torture you hack. I thought about adding the black/white version of this as well, because 'look at all that loving cross-hatching.' It was almost impossible to even visualize what was occurring in the panel before the color version was posted. Worst "A Thing Happened" cartoon Wait, there were several news stories this week? gently caress it, smashing them all together into one series of "news headline" quotes. Laziest Cartoon Look, I recognize this is the Gorrell category. And looking at this cartoon, you might be thinking "Come on, he thought of something to write and even drew some stuff." But when there are run-away award winners, sometimes others who gave it their best (or didn't) can be forgotten. That duck and the NYE text? Copied from the 16 previous resolution cartoons. And, look at it, NYE resolution #21. How loving lazy are you that you repeat the same stupid gimmick nearly every day for a month. Lastly, I would point out this is the 22nd and final NYE resolution cartoon. That might be confusing because it says #21, but that's because the last two ran out of order. Best edit/parody There were a lot of fantastic edits this year, and this one, by comparison, might not look all that special. In fact, when it was first posted it went pretty much unnoticed. Nevertheless, this is the beginning. The first "Day By Penis," and since I can't nominate all of them I decided to symbolically nominate the original. I wasn't sure whether to just post the first img or to post all four, but all four were posted together initially and they form one storyline. Capt. Best edit/parody How could I not vote a Rorus Raz edit with PotG Donkey?! The only time I've enjoyed a Christmas song since I was 10 years old too! I only nominated 1 cartoon last year. It was Rall's Ebert cartoon for the worst. I can't really nominate anything this year for worst cartoon or other categories since it's all a horrible blur.

Worst Middle East Cartoon Kirschen lost it after the Gaza slaughter and his mini-stroke, so most of his recent cartoons qualify, but this one is a cut above the rest. Worst Police Brutality Cartoon  This also qualifies for "worst cartoon about a tragedy" and hypothetical "worst victim blaming" category. Worst Torture Report Cartoon Yep, another Ramirez.   All the relevant worst cartoons have been nominated, so I'll just throw this in for fun. Team America: World Police is a better political satire than The Interview or any potential cartoons about The Interview anyway.  Worst cartoon about a tragedy This also qualifies for "worst police brutality cartoon" and hypothetical "worst victim blaming" category. Worst caricature Rather go with a Ramirez cartoon again (although this would certainly qualify), I'm going to go with Kirschen's set of "trading cards", which I've helpfully compiled into one image. Seriously, just look at them, the caricatures are so loving vile and hate-filled, and if they were drawn by anyone else they'd be called anti-semitic as gently caress. Worst "A Thing Happened" cartoon  A Thing Happened, and then Tinsley decided to be a horrible transphobic rear end in a top hat for a chunk of October. Seriously gently caress you Tinsley. Worst Label This wins just for the sheer number of labels and for showing that the Republicans will indeed dredge up every single 90's scandal to use against Hillary in 2015/2016. (The "cattle futures scandal" is from 1978 for Christ's sake.) Least concealed bigotry in a cartoon Okay yeah, you don't really get any worse than this. I'm also surprised there's no "worst anti-immigrant/immigration cartoon" category, although this McCoy would probably win it.Laziest cartoon 7oden didn't even do 5 seconds of research to realize that remoras have a mutualistic relationship with sharks. I literally learned that poo poo from the Magic School Bus, what's his excuse? What do mean we're supposed to hate the kid, what kind of rear end in a top hat could hate a cute little kid like that?(You can consider this a stand-in for all the cartoons depicting illegal immigrants as cute, harmless little kids.) Overall worst political cartoon of the year The "Ebola Gay" dropping an Ebola bomb. It combines Ebola, a tasteless reference to the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, Japan, and the back fin is loving ginormous so that the Obama logo can fit on there. What puts it up and above? Take a look at the back window, that's Obama's silhouette; loving nobody but the Political Cartoons thread would realize that, since only people super familiar with Ramirez's caricature would know that that's how Ramirez draws Obama. Best edit/parody You know, I started off the year lukewarm on Latuff. Then the Gaza slaughter and Ferguson/Michael Brown et al happened, and Latuff proved he can blow everyone else out of the park. Worst Middle East Cartoon At the time that was posted, I think the Israeli casualties were still in the single digits while Palestine already had a death toll in the hundreds. Worst Police Brutality Cartoon  There's too many to count here, and the cartoon I posted is hardly the only one of its type. But I had to choose the white fucker who not only co-opted a black leader to tell black people to stop being uppity, but also had the balls to appropriate one of his quotes to do so in a lovely attempt to elevate his cartoon above the other "MLK sez you blacks need to shut up about this." cartoons. Worst Torture Report Cartoon Not only is it barely a cartoon in that it's basically  , but what little was drawn is done so in a horrible fashion. Then, to top it off, the actual bulk of the cartoon is one of the weirdest and most pathetic ways any of the cartoonists have tried to spin the whole torture report.Worst The Interview Cartoon Hard to top blatant racism. Racist screed in a "style" that more than one thread regular has argued shouldn't even be considered cartooning. Worst Torture Report Cartoon Won't beat Ramirez's poo poo but deserves recognition for rock-headed stupidity. Worst The Interview Cartoon Not much stood out in terms of being vile (except occasionally racist depictions of Koreans) but I thought Catalino got high marks for his signature half-assedness. The fact that "How to Train Your Dragon" isn't even a Sony movie only adds to this mess. Worst "A Thing Happened" Cartoon Ugly, artifacted, GISed Colorado flag with a crudely-drawn joint to make a non-statement about Colorado's marijuana laws. I kind of think Gorrell should be disqualified from the Laziest Cartoon category, if only because he's TOO good at it. There should at least be something resembling a cartoon for it to qualify. Or just rename the category to The Gorrell.

I abstained from the politoons thread this year after many years of religiously following it. Wow. You can never quite remember just how awful and hate-filled so many of these are. The pain dulls over time. Jesus loving Christ that sperm bank comic. How are there human beings who look at that and have a positive reaction?
