I counted two people calling him alt-right, another called him red-pilled as a negative, some other person lamenting that American alt-right language seeping overseas, and one poster in this thread calling him a chud. Everyone else either expressed disappointment in the man or called him based for "speaking the truth".

So five people out of hundreds are calling him alt-right nazi; that's not really a large number of people calling him a hateful man. But also, twitter is also trash for measuring metrics like this, so whatever.

that was ghost hound, but it wasnt the last one he wrote for. and while its an extremely bizarre rant, the angle is 'global warming is real but theres no evidence people cause it', not global warming being fake.

“Global warming is real but there’s no evidence people cause it” is in line with the conservative climate denialist school of thought. Republicans I know have said it to my face. It’s essentially no different than “climate change isn’t real” because it advocates for humans to change no behavior all the same.

Just really disappointing.

Yeah, Konaka, it turns out, is just an rear end in a top hat and should be roundly called out for being an rear end in a top hat. So I am quite disappointed to learn that the guy who made the best Digimon property in the franchise and helped shape my views on what this series really had the potential to be if it applied itself turned out to be an rear end in a top hat.

We've been talking about how those guys are pedophiles, but nobody actually addressed how Oda was involved. A quick google search says he joined an interview with Kenshin guy after his child porn charge, and uhh, vouched for Toriko guy to get his manga job back? I can't find the source on that one.

edit: Missed the years on those. Toriko guy was arrested on 2002, so already on public record, and Oda is a well known friend, including multiple collaboration between One Piece and Toriko startin 2017

Oda also recently did an friendly buddy-buddy interview with Watsuki so he very openly does not care about what his friends have done

Anyway I think whatever point Konaka has completely falls apart when the thing he is specifically mad about lately is made-up covid poo poo being deleted off the internet, which in Japan is an extra problem on top of the already fairly prevalent vaccine hesitancy (not at all helped by the government's incredibly bungled vaccine rollout)

And even taking away that particular context having watched the actual script read I feel confident in saying that this is embarrassingly hamhanded. Like it's one of those political cartoons that use visual metaphors but everything's still clearly labeled with what it represents because the artist either thinks the intended audience is just that dumb or doesn't actually understand how their own work can be viewed. It's just straight up bad. It doesn't build on Tamers' characters or storyline or themes, it's just Konaka using the cast as puppets to talk about what's grinding his gears lately.

Honestly that someone at Toei went "Yup, this is how we're gonna mark Tamer's 20th" in terms of draging the cast back and everything kinda just marks the impossible gulf in what I believe Digimon could be and what the people who are in charge of the franchise in tyool 2021 are capable of.

In itself, sitting back and letting the guy who wrote Tamers do whatever he wants for a script reading at an event for the people who are still passionate about that show 20 years later is a decision that makes sense. Obviously, the results aren't good, but it feels like a context where you'd be more hands-off because it's not like you need to market or merchandise whatever Konaka writes.

See, this sucks major rear end. Making up with his original tamers was the culmination of Impmon's arc, the it'd feel incredibly cheap for them to have a falling out on screen just to stick him with Juri, if it's a fakeout and they didn't have a falling out I'm not even sure what you gain from that? Temporarily disappointing people I guess.

Grizzlymon is one of two blockers available in blue, so it gets a lot of play. It will go down in play soon, though, because the other blocker has one less evolution cost, which is a big deal for deck building

Even if it isn't radicalization towards American RW crankery, crank magnetism being what it is, it's not unlikely that he'd start falling into some kind of crankery that's adjacent to the one(s) that he's currently into

Like a friend and I were talking about this today on Discord and he rightly noted that Toei are going to be more involved in Ghost Game than this in response to concerns that Konaka could be involved in the new anime.

I myself noted that unlike Oda; Konaka has no ownership in Digimon meaning that, as my friend suggested, Toei can always drop him in favor of hiring a new person to due Tamers stuff as part of damage control which seems likely given that the event script is reportedly non-canon.

Even if this is non-canon, and even if this is without much involvement from Toei, I imagine the optics for this are not going to be fun. To a lot of peoples' perspectives, they rounded up the cast of a beloved kid's show from a venerable franchise and had them perform something uncomfortably close to right wing propaganda.

Toei has always kind of unsubtly despised Tamers and treated it like some kind of deformed bastard child it feels obliged to lock away in a belfry somewhere, so dragging Konaka out of his strange retirement-exile from the anime industry and greenlighting a script where he takes a nice long and extra weird piss all over it for no logical reason is right up their alley. Toei treats Tamers the same way it treats everything not named Adventure or Appmon, as something to be ignored because it can't be exploited for nostalgia points the way Adventure can, and it can't just be thrown off a window and never spoken of again like Appmon.
