Caught up on updates about Tri... As excited I was when the whole thing was announced, which only intensified after OVA 2 and even more so after OVA 3... Right now it just feels like it's going all over the place trying to find a nostalgia chord to trip I just can't imagine how they will wrap everything up in 2 more movies in a way that feels "Ooooooh...that's what they were building up to all along. So it seems Appmon has about 10 or so more episodes left at this point (I'm guessing at least seeing as no Digimon series has lasted more than a year aside from Xros Wars), I'm curious if they'll continue to experiment with the formula or go back to a more traditional Digimon show after this. How soon do we usually find out what the next season is going to be?

That said, we don't know exactly when Appmon is ending, and I doubt it is that close when we have a full level of the protagonists that hasn't appeared yet.

It comes down to the franchise's popularity. The first four seasons (Adventure, 02, Tamers and Frontier) all came back to back from 1999 to 2003. Then Savers came out 2006, Xross Wars in 2011 (with Hunters airing right after as an extension of the same season) and Appmon this year. With the Tri ovas coming since 2015, with the last one probably early next year

Whether Bandai decides that appealing to all the fandom at once is what matters, or whether one part brings more cash than the other, will likely decide what the next anime will be like. Personally, I'm cool with either. I'm really enjoying Appmon, once it got over the slow, merely "okay" beginning, it got really good and the characters are very likable (the center of the universe, Karan Eri-sama might genuinely be my favourite female character in the franchise at this point). Meanwhile, Tri had very good parts and I love that it appeals to me as an adult (not so much to me as an Adventure fan, considering how the 02 treatment is...weird, and I'm not too nostalgia-bound anyways), but at the same time it does have severe flaws that only have gotten more and more clear with more movies. I still think that appealing to the adult fanbase can go well, but if that's what the series will do, I hope it will be as an all-new series rather than having to use years of established canon like this.
