I didn't think I had played this, but the first dig site (the high-walled cliff face) and a few other scenes triggered a memory of it. I'm not sure I played through the whole thing, though.

I think it's a serious misstep to have Brink be an incompetent rear end. He could have been the one best at guessing what to do with the artifacts, possibly even working as a hint system for the early game. Then by taking him away the player would feel even more alone, and more like they have to do the work of exploration carefully and examine each object they find. It would also add a bit more weight to his death if the player actually wanted him to survive. Instead it just feels like the plot shedding dead weight.

Don't forget that Orson Scott Card worked on this. (They are addicted to pornography.)

I kind of wish the explanation for old Brink is that the alien just can't tell the difference. "I walked along all the paths of time & space, and found a version of the man you call Brink ... at least I'm pretty sure it's him."

The game just got released on GoG.com, so it's on sale for less than US $5 this week.

I have to agree that Maggie's reaction to the life crystal doesn't really gel with Brink's. It would have been way creepier and more consistent if she'd gone "changed my mind, life crystals are great, you should have some!" But that probably would have required more assets/writing/speech recording to have her walking around with you at the end unless they could come up with another way to get rid of her.

The other way I expected them to go with that was Maggie waking up and Brink lying to her about the crystal, just saying that she'd been thrown clear. It's not even clear why she's so certain she died; Brink was kind of fuzzy on the details of what happened to him, unless you want to argue that was because he was dead longer.
