Current game state [Spring 1910]

Game over - four way draw

[We're using the Milan variant, not the original map. The changes are minor, but make Italy a bit stronger than in the vanilla game. It needs it.]

Each player plays one of the major European powers. Each is evenly matched. Each turn, players submit a set of orders for their units secretly, and those orders are resolved simultaneously. There's no random element here: the only way for an army or fleet to come out on top against another is for it to have help. If you want to beat up on your neighbour, you better get your other neighbour to help.

Each game year is divided into four seasons: Spring, summer, fall, winter. Spring and fall are main phases, where you'll order your units to move. Summer and winter are adjustment phases, where we clean up after the main phases. At the end of each year, we also have to adjust the number of units - each supply centre (the provinces with black dots) can support one unit, so players will build/disband units accordingly.

The win the game, a player must individually control a majority of supply centres. The game can also end in a draw if the remaining players unanimously agree to it. Players with no supply centres in winter get eliminated.

If you don't know how to play, this is a good place to start. You'll want to learn the different types of orders (Move, support, convoy, hold), how supporting works, and the general format to submit orders and how they'll be resolved

Here's the official rulebook, which goes into much more detail and where you can learn about the Kiel canal.

You probably don't need to learn about the Kiel canal, but it won't hurt!

[I won't be a jerk about orders being Properly Formatted as long as your intention is clear, of course]

Turns will last 48 hours ish, with retreat/build phases being 24 hours ish. Orders will be PMed to me directly. You may submit multiple sets of orders, only the most recent will be taken into consideration. [Make sure to submit orders for all units each time though, no partial order sets]

Usual toxx/bet/no editing posts/don't be a jerk rules apply. Full out of thread communication is allowed. No copy-pasting chat logs, that's boring. No spectator posts commenting on the game/player strategy.

Not applying to play but I wanted to say the past few forums Diplomacy games have been an absolute blast to follow and I hope this one carries on the tradition. Good luck, folks!

It's true, I'm no good dirty rotten snake who will stab you in the back the first chance I get, even if it is detrimental for myself to do so.

Alternatively, if this is a reference to CoC, your problem was taking steal weapons instead of something that would have pushed you over to the 12 culture + mood mark.

He would have had to have take an suboptimal (for him) advance to do so.

Having run diplomacy...hope you love screenshotting!

Milan Variant is one of the best modifications to the base diplomacy game, IMO. Completely changes the game for the four central powers, which will radiate out to the outer three in due time.

Turns out the rules for this are remarkably similar to the Game of Thrones board game, and I once lost a forums game of that so badly that I abandoned it and didn't post for months in shame, so I feel like I got this.
