Toyota and Honda both have museums some place that have a lot of old CART cars if memory serves correctly. I seem to recall a Kool Green car being on a rack in a pic. some place.

Toyota has a cool-rear end garage in SoCal, and Honda of course has their museum at Twin Ring Motegi too.

Also talking about "running a Toyota" was more the historical CART/IRL than them getting back into open-wheel. I think.

I don't remember seeing any Toyota CART or IRL engines in vintage racing, which makes sense because Toyota only leased their engines during their entire open wheel stint in the states. Most people convert the old CART equipment to run Cosworths because cossie is really supportive of vintage racing, and still offer rebuilds and support. Unfortunately those CART engines had different mounting points and wiring looms for each engine type, but there are a few people that will build you an adapter kit for your old chassis and xtrac will sell you a cossie gearbox. You can also get a Buick/Judd if you want to save money, cause the cossies aint cheap.

Old IRL equipment is easier because they had a standard mounting bolt pattern, wiring loom, and gearbox. Also GM sold tons of engines in the 3.5L era that work in the cars up until the 2011 spec Dallara with a little tweaking and a new engine cover, or you can get a Gen 3 Chevy/Cosworth (but they are a good deal more expensive).

Does Ilmor support vintage racing? I ask because the few Reynards and Lolas I've seen for sale that ran their engines have all had the powerplants missing.

I've seen a few old Chevy/Ilmors, but i dont think they have the full rebuilds and stuff that Cosworth will do. Theres enough old CART and F1 cars that use a Cosworth DF that I think they have the 'critical mass' to make it profitable for them to do that stuff.

All of Toyota and Hondas international stuff that I've seen (in Japan and Germany) only display F1 efforts, which makes sense. I haven't been to Toyota's thing in Cali though but looking at the pic in wiki there might be something hiding behind those dividers. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_USA_Automobile_Museum#/media/File:Toyota_USA_Automobile_Museum_-_003_-_Flickr_-_Moto@Club4AG.jpg

Anything after 1993 probably belongs to Mercedes now and I doubt they give a gently caress about supporting it

Toyota one had one of the Gurney Eagles, I know that.

Mercedes Benz has a display for the '94 Penske in Germany, and Ferrari has their IndyCar concept in their museum in Italy. (never raced)

I had some free time and went back through the archives -- 14 years a goon and this is the first time I use the archives?? -- to find the old threads. Proper megathreads didn't start until 2007, but I did include the really old ones I could find, for your amusement. I wasn't able to find a post-Indy thread for 2008 or 2009, but I don't think we were covering the whole season back then.

Please add these to the new OP for posterity.

In case you needed reminding of how bad King Hiro was... his qualifying pace here is nearly four seconds off the pole, and a second and a half off of the next slowest car.

edit: Also, adding the whole fountain complex definitely made Long Beach better.

Referring to JJ Lehto as a "Rookie" is a bit weird. It's neat seeing Schittarella in there too.
