My New Year's resolution is to actually keep up with this thread. It got to 10,000+ unread posts before Deadpool killed it for 2014.

And I also resolve to watch all the stuff I keep stored on my DVR. I hear The Manhattan Project is actually pretty good, its time to find out for myself!

It's eminently adaptable (and possibly has more mass appeal than Game of Thrones given that it contains a lot more of the traditional fantasy trappings and less incest/ultraviolence).

But that's why shows like Game Of Thrones and Walking Dead are popular, incest and ultraviolence seem to be why so many people watch them! What does everyone talk about around the water cooler - who got killed, who got boned, whatever terrible tragedy has befallen the heroes, etc. Xena and Hercules had their niches, but for traditional fantasy shows they certainly never hit the cultural sweet spot that GOT and WD have.

edit: late post, sorry

Basically show's great, everyone should at least check it out over a weekend whenever they inevitably run out of TV to watch during one of the dead periods.

It's certainly not as clever or nuanced as The Good Wife, but I would pair them both as examples of great modern network dramas. CBS - who knew?

I actually kept thinking of Elementary while discussing addiction with a friend recently, but I didn't want to sound callous for comparing their real life situation with a television show. Addiction is overwhelming, and recovery is tedious and a chore and (hopefully) ultimately fulfilling. Creating a satisfying life while denying that which you crave is more effort than most people can muster.

It's a good show because each POV presents the principal characters as the protagonists, and on the other side, they're the antagonists. Nobody exists to only twirl mustaches.

Which is why I love Justified so much. I get so wrapped up in Boyd and his antics that I forget he's actually the "bad" guy. When Raylan shows up with the law, I realize I'd been rooting for the heroin dealer the whole time.

I have been storing this last season of Justified on my DVR and plan on binging one of these weekends. Once it's all over, I'll likely go back and dive into The Americans, since I imagine it's the same level of quality and entertainment.

One of the many little reasons why I am glad I stuck with The Mindy Project is the revelation that Danny's parents are Carla and Nick from Cheers. Well, not exactly, but they both play Danny's parents and it's fun to see them together again.

This is the other reason, this whole scene was gold:

So I know this isn't the most popular place for this kind of stuff, but apparently a Real Housewife of Beverly Hills has fallen off the wagon again after this whole last season was people asking her if she was sober.

At what point does a network become liable for the actions of their employees/reality folks? Their storyline this season was all about her being an alcoholic, so do they have some culpability for involving this person in such stressful stuff when she clearly has nasty personal issues? If she commits suicide, could the family sue the network for negligence or something? If she was high or drunk while agreeing to be filmed or something, or if she did something violent while filming for the show and under the influence, where does the network's responsibility lie?

I remember many years ago when a Real World alcoholic drove home drunk from a bar, and the crew filmed her the whole way home. No one stepped up to stop her, and no one really seemed to address it after the fact, beyond what served the storyline for the show. If that cast member had caused a fatal accident, would the network be liable for her actions since she was an employee under direct care of the show?

Honestly, we are THISCLOSE to an on-camera murder suicide at this rate. I'm surprised it hasn't happened on one of those Bad Girl Club shows.

Exactly. I like Ron Moore, I dig the setting...but my mom is now planning trips to Scotland and posts pictures of random young ginger dudes, and I just can't bear to watch the show.

Though I do like Eli Gold's daughter Melissa and hope she stays on somehow.

I thought the election storyline was a nice little break from the heavy stuff from the first half, and I agree on Eli's daughter. The Lamont Bishop subplot is as unnerving as ever, especially the "buying the State's Attorney" angle. I agree that it's been disjointed, but that episode with Diane amongst the GOP elite was gold! And the Canning deathbed set-up was awesome.

I typically reserve judgment until I finish a season and digest everything. Which is why I usually hoard whole seasons on my DVR and binge through, as we are currently doing with Justified. I am so going to miss that show...

It turns out we missed last week's Rick & Morty so we caught it tonight On Demand, and that ending was amazing. How and why do I feel bad for Rick?! My friend actually asked me if I thought this season was darker than last year, and I had to remind him of the Rick Potion episode. And the shield of Mortys. That shield of Mortys haunts me, I don't think it can get much darker than that.

If you are a sci-fi nerd, you will love Rick & Morty for the exploration of awesome ideas in a hosed up way. Rick's girlfriend is a hivemind. There is an inter-dimensional daycare for all the Jerrys that Ricks have dropped off for various reasons. The videogame Roy which is essentially that episode of Star Trek where Picard lives a life in 3 minutes.

And yeah the main characters are screwed up, that's what makes it interesting! There's a whole series of episodes last season that explains why Rick brings Morty along so much. It's fun, and hilarious, and also doesn't take itself too seriously. If nothing else, watch Rick Potion #9 from last season and see if that does anything for you.

Is there anywhere to catch up on Mr Robot? My cable doesn't seem to have it On Demand. And canistream.it says it's not available anywhere yet to stream.

I'm catching up on Hannibal and I just got to the episode where Hannibal turns himself in to the FBI. I am seriously going to miss this bromance! Why couldn't Netflix or Amazon or someone step up and give us a few more episodes of food porn and pretentious/delicious dialogue?!
