  • The contest: some sort of gamble with their lives on the line
  • both are tenacious, quick thinkers, and fighting for their lost comrades
  • both have the potential to make big mistakes

Personally, i think Joseph would have the edge - kaiji's looser morals would mean he would eventually attempt to cheat, but joseph would use his hamon to prevent kaiji from cheating, or even feed him false information - this could be crucial in the late stages of a gamble.

Joseph would lose. Even with Hamon, in a water pouring based gamble WITH the ripple, he loses to D'Arby the Gambler. D'Arby isn't even close to the gambler that Hyodo is. While he's got a couple of souls, Hyodo has assembled a soul crushing empire spanning continents. And let me tell you, it might not be clear, but I think Kaiji's going to take Hyodo down, when all is said and done.

Mr Jostar. Ive yet to begin reading the manga, but I believe the cast of Jojo have really big muscles.

Kaiji would win and then blow all his winnings on slot machines or pachinko.

If you don't think Kaiji would have seen through the piece of chocolate maneuver from D'ARby immediately, I don't know what to tell you

i think we are going to need more detail on the type of gamble but i am tentatively backing kaiji

Maybe Kaiji will one day take Hyodo down, but consider this: most of Kaiji's big victories (Rock paper scissors, pachinko, e-card) were the result of teamwork. In a one v one situation, his skills would be EXTREMELY limited.

Not in the latest arcs. In fact, in the Minefield Mahjong battle, Kaiji wins even though his closest friends betray him. He is a world class gambler now.

Kaiji weathered a gambling apocalypse therefore he shall emerge victorious in any "gamble" situation.

He still uses his friends to win, because they give him some information in order to keep up the appearance.

They hinder him more than they help. In fact, the final maneuver must be done in spite of his friends. He has to best them physically to pull it off. Now, perhaps if Kaiji's opponent was Akagi, or Gambling Emperor Zero, then I would not think his victory was assured.

One time i saw a forum thread debating who'd win between kaiji and akagi and the consensus was akagi would win IF they were playing mahjong

Yes, kaijis friends betrayed him, which allowed him to win. Kaiji needs a "hook" to win, even specifically looking for a crooked casino before finding the pachinko machine. Against a single honest opponent, he's helpless.

Too bad Joseph is FAR from an honest opponent. He even cheats at video games.

With lives on the line, he would be an honest opponent, and would respect kaiji after winning

It's indicative of flaws in his character. Hell, he even wanted to get rowdy and wild with his own mom at one point.

Would that be on Kaiji's world or the JoJo's? Because in the latter I am sure that Kaiji's gambling spirit would make him manifest a stand, and that would be a real wild card.
