The new episode of Yatterman is pretty cool, its a show with a lot of energy. Also a huge homage to the opening of Patlabor 2, which is neat.

The world itself is really grey, but theres a lot of focus on what animals and plants managed to survive, little stuff like the dragonfly in the foreground as the heroes snuck away in a bush were cool shots. THey don't have an Oshii budget but theres a lot of thought being put into the direction and animation. It's cool and feels both cartoonish and ethereal, like a dream. I dunno if you could really give it a better name then what they went with though, since the original is just Maria the Virgin. I wonder how people who localise do that sort of thing, like who came up with Parasyte, which is a good name.

It's a show about people, but also people dealing with the consequences of technological growth, so I thought the last half dealing with the gulf between the 1st and 3rd worlds was cool, but also I thought all those characters came across as really sympathetic, so the whole situation was heartbreaking. The bit in the epilogue with the dude and the moongirl looking back at earth but she can't see the boundaries was top feels for me.

I'm still working through 2 but I think my favorite part about Chihayafuru is how great it is at making every character relatable and sympathetic. Even characters who you think that can't ever happen for, like Sudo. It's way more a work of character study than a sports anime, I'd say.
