Think of the irony, you can smoke copious amounts of weed in NK, but there's barely anything to eat when you get the munchies.

LOL, I learned what "butterfly" meant at age 7 and thought it was the funniest thing when Thais would say it. I remember my dad's friend had a new weekly GF over and they got into an argument and she screamed "YOU A BUTTERFLY" at him and I laughed so hard. The fact that it's still so commonly used all these decades later just proves that at least Thais understand foreign dudes in Asia better than other Asian countries.

Is it joke on how the butterfly visits multiple flowers each day?

That's the joke, yeah.

Also when they say it in Thai its literally a "shirt ghost" so there's an extra layer of silliness whether they go with the Thai word because it's funny or the English word because calling someone a butterfly in English doesn't mean anything on the surface.

Here I thought it was a reference to the callous treatment of the eponymous Japanese wife in Madame Butterfly.

No it only works the other way round. If you say it to a man though it is a legal marriage contract and he owns your butthole for the next fifty years

From what I've heard (college level classes), it's the equivalent of that boring political science class that everyone has to take as part of their general courses.

This is true. My wife had to take it when she was doing her BS in Computer sciences, and almost had to do it again when she switched over to Child Psychology. Luckily the two Universities had some sort of partnership, and she was able to skip it in the second (transferring credits is apparently very hard to do in China). She said it was the most BS and boring class she ever took, and didn't remember anything from it as she has no interest in politics or history. She's pretty sure it is still a required course for every university student in China.

The missing Hong Kong Book seller has sent a letter saying he's fine, so I guess that's the end of that then.

The circled red characters are Simplified Chinese (I.E a possible giveaway that it was written by a mainlander, possibly whoever is holding him captive)

quote:

I have noticed that, recently some people in Hong Kong, are organising a march because of my issues - I am very confused and puzzled about that.

I have said again and again, it is completely my personal action to return to the mainland, in order to understand some personal issues, it is not related to anyone else. I do not know why some people have made a big fuss out of this matter.

No matter what your purposes are, what benefits [you are] dreaming to get from it, your behaviours have seriously disturbed the daily lives of me and my family, putting us under a lot of pressure and [we are] physically and mentally exhausted. Under such atmosphere, how can I come back to Hong Kong?

Everyone, please, for the sake of me and my family, respect my choice and privacy, do not make a big fuss out of this matter. This is truly how you should care for me.
