GEMorris posted:Tape is firmer than grip rubber, midsize and oversize grips can be mushy. Generally compressed air is only for the type of grips made by Star and Pure (rip), but making the size of the shaft big enough to make a standard grip midsize will also create enough tension to hold the grip in place without the solvent/glue. Compressed air rules because if you want to swap grips, because you are a tinkerer, it becomes super easy. Compressed air is fine, but I find the grips shift around no matter how much buildup tape i put on the shaft. I don't even use a vise, just shove them on there barehanded. Midsize grips are the truth though (wedge guys diamond cord mids). I have issues with regripping my trail hand, and the severe cord keeps things in place better. I definitely feel that bare hand moving on the sandpaper textured grips more than my old tour velvet 360 mids. e: not everyone will have my issues with grips twisting though, as most people don't swing a 7 iron around 94-95mph.

At even my slow swing speeds I had issues with midsize grips and not enough build up tape twisting when I was going that direction. If you want easily swappable grips and avoid twisting, hit your tape with a light coat of hairspray before sliding the grip on. Strong enough to avoid any twisting, weak enough for compressed air to break the bond.

I buy logo overruns when they have them for the ProV1x or left dash. I like the peek into someone's thoughts. Sure, it's usually just a corporate logo (why corporations are doing logos on balls that high end is the question) and some lame golf jokes (if found return to Joe Smith). Today, I got this gem, where the printers didn't have a human in the QA line before printing.![]()

Not sure it makes a ton of sense at the corporate level, but I find a ton of smaller business logos on higher end balls and just assume its a tax writeoff / lifestyle subsidy thing.

Had a lesson with a new coach, and he videoed me and figured out why I was always going to the right. For some reason I’ve had it ingrained in my brain that as I take the club away I open the face. For what ever broke brained reason. Once I stopped doing this they were going so much straighter and more consistent. I was hitting the same point on the impact tape for 10 shots in a row. Granted it wasn’t centred, but it was more towards the heel.

I’ve left events with boxes because the marketing team didn’t want to take them on the flight home, and most of the times I forget the company/product who’s story I heard just for a free dozen balls. Win win imo

I have a collection of corporate pro v1s scavenged around the nearby fields. Several health insurance ones, one for Oracle and a couple more

Careful, the oracle one might cost money to hit. I'm still playing found prov1s, I found like two dozen in my first couple rounds of the year.

A lot of times early in the year the deep poo poo rough hasn't grown out, and if you walk a round on a course with a high end enough clientele (university executive courses can be great for this in my limited experience) you can drat near pay for your green fees with found balls. I did this a month ago and halfway in I had to start dropping anything "distance ball" or lower tier to make room for all the premium balls I was picking up. (To be fair I was traveling with a range bag so my max capacity was about 20 balls)

Got my first ever birdie today. Short par 4, drove 220, chipped onto the edge of the green, then a not too tricky putt. ![]() Second round in a row of being +13/14. Big improvement from last years +20ish.

First round yesterday at the private club. Course is deceptively difficult. It’s like they designed a course just to gently caress with me specifically. Fairway bunkers were right at my average drive distance, trees placed exactly where it would interfere with my shot shape. Scored a 124 which is better than I thought I was going to do. I think I’m going to have to start getting serious about my game if I want to see success.

Hey I need some advice from a shaft knower. How would a KBS Tour Lite R compare to an NSPRO 950GH Neo in stiff? Weight, feel, etc.

Carth Dookie posted:Hey I need some advice from a shaft knower. KBS tour lite is one of the softest to stated flex shafts KBS makes. 950GH in stiff is going to be much stouter, but still middling stiff compared to other "stiff" flex shafts from say True Temper. What's your swing speed? Both of these are going to be mid/high to high launch shafts (but still depends on your swing of course). The kbs is stated as mid/mid but at R vs 950 in S they will likely launch very similarly. Here's a wrx thread but note that the comparisons in that thread will mostly be stiff vs stiff and reg vs reg. Here's a CPM chart for reference, but note these measurements are stifness as measured from clamping at the butt of the staff and never tell the whole story. Thanks I was mostly interested because I know there's variation between what one brand calls an S and another calls an S. I was checking out zenmarket for honmas (I shouldn't. I really, really really shouldn't) and was curious if an NSPRO would be softer than a KBS C Taper Lite S Which is my only real S comparison. edit: That second chart suggests S NSpros would probably be a bit much. I'd probably stick to Rs. How do you rate The Vizard TR20 shafts? I apologize if you're not the zenmarket Honma hunter and I've confused you with another goon. Presently I'm swinging a driver around 88-90mph. Last year it was about 82 and this year I expect I'll be more consistently around 90 or low 90s as I continue to practice. League started tonight and despite the windchill being like 41 here in central Ohio and not hitting a club all year I played great. Definitely the best first day of golf in some years. Shooting my handicap from the end of last year despite being rusty and it being cold as gently caress is a big confidence boost going forward.

Im playing honma irons rn, although weirdly I'm playing a US-only offering (quite possibly the only us only iron offering they every had, unsure) C tapers arent on the soft end, and should probably not be compared to tours. the other half of that chart I doubt 950gh in stiff would be unplayable for you, theyd be nothing like ctaper, or s300 dynamic gold in stiffness. But yeah reg is probably a better fit for now. Carth Dookie posted:How do you rate The Vizard TR20 shafts? I apologize if you're not the zenmarket Honma hunter and I've confused you with another goon. No, that's me, the zenmarket guy. My issue with graphite shafts in irons is weight, I just have little control of a lightweight shaft. I've heard others say nice things about honma shafts up and down the line, year after year. Honma is like OnOff in that there is a ton of in house graphite shaft expertise and the upgrade house shafts can go toe to toe with a ton of aftermarket offerings. The vizard shafts in the metalwoods are top notch imo, if a bit soft to flex sometimes. GEMorris fucked around with this message at 03:41 on Apr 16, 2025 |

Yeah, I'm fighting some extreme swing demons lately so my speed is way down while I work on technique. (way down being an 85mph 3/4 swing 7 iron). I don't think the variance in shafts makes as much of a difference as it's made out to be. Weight is way more important than stiffness, bend profile, or anything else. I went an entire round struggling to even get the ball in the air because i was topping/shanking it so badly on Friday.

I still can't hit a driver for poo poo, but it's pretty cool how just working on my technique, figuring out my timing and movement has got my 80% swing speed up to 102mph. My 5i is just barely hovering over 90, again with no great hits. The 7 though, I'm pretty happy with it and have been out driving people I've been paired with at the muni against their drivers. I've been practicing 5 times a week and getting 2 lessons a month since January, playing rounds every now and then. I'm always feeling like I'm on the verge of a breakthrough but never quite there. At least I'm getting used to feeling like this for the rest of my golfing life.
