Isthere a golf equipment thread? I'm going to pull the trigger on a mevo or voice caddie sc300 in the next couple weeks and I keep going back and forth between the two. It kinda seems like the mevo is a little more accurate for carry. I drat near grabbed the r motion two weeks ago for the virtual golf aspect because I won't be getting out to the course much this year. I'll be hitting off a fiberbuilt practice station and flight deck in my garage.

I buy the costco packs of Callaway gloves, and i probably get five or six rounds before one becomes my range glove and i rotate through them like that. I am definitely due for some new clubs and grips 15years+. drat, it's time. I made a pact with myself that I could get new clubs, proper fitting and all when I break break 8 over for 18 on a decent course.

I guess I'm looking for a miracle glove that lasts like 6 months or something.

Why do they have to say "flatstick" now. I feel like I've only been hearing that term in the past year or year and a half? It feels so contrived. Standing on my front lawn with my fist raised yelling "JUST CALL IT A PUTTER!"

Made it out to a local Toptracer Range over the weekend and it was pretty cool. I played virtual 9 holes and then I just whacked through like 200 more balls. I was all by myself but it would definitely be cool to play the virtual couses with someone else.

My new range routines have me switching clubs up a lot anyway, like I'll hit a driver or 3 wood then a mid iron then wedge to a specific target. Really trying to break 80 this year and I credit this routine woth getting me a few 40s on 9 holes. I've been playing for 25 years and have never put a 9 hole score under 40.

Any cool range routines out there?

drat, it looked like Morikawa was having such a fun time out there on the home stretch, with everything on the line, no less. He's going to win so many drat tournaments like that, and it will be so fun watching him.

I finally ordered a net, baffle, and corner pieces to build a conduit practice cage for the backyard, looking forward to losing all my excuses for poor ball striking. Fricking golf.

I have a net and I use it every once in a while but the problem I have with it is that you can’t actually tell how your balls are traveling. If you have a problem hitting thin, fat, or shanks it’ll probably help but if your issue is a ball flight that you’re wanting to change it’s not as effective.

I am really looking forward to full driver swings. Working at pumping my smash factor up and sweet-spotting my irons, dialing in 1/2 and 3/4 shot distances as well as helping my brother in law and kids get into the game. "No instruction on the range" and all that.

I should note that I have had the Flightscope Mevo launch monitor for a while and I really like it. It doesn't do shot shape, but I can generally feel the difference between a pull and a draw and a straight shot or a fade or a slice.

Maybe next year or two I'll be looking for some simulation via Mevo+ or something.

Stepped into a new Roger Dunn by my house and walked out a few minutes later with some Ping Eye 2s 3-W for $89. Original grips in pretty good condition, it will be nice to have this set on standby for visitors and to just hit them in the cage sometimes. Price seemed OK and they are in really good condition. My brother games some eye 2s and he's pretty happy with them, pretty cool clubs.

My swing was getting a little messed up from hitting indoors with a lowish ceiling. I am happy to report that once I setup my backyard cage I am now striking my irons better and more consistently after just a couple of weeks then I ever have before. I think it also helped that I have some vintage Walter Hagen blades that I started hitting each session to really force the necessity of center strikes.

I also came across a lesson on YouTube where the instructor or the person who took the instruction talked about how important it is to hit into a net when working on your swing and contact because you might actually get distracted by the full ballflight on the range and start to make unnecessary adjustments rather than working on what you're supposed to be working on for the session. I could not agree more. 70s, I'm comming for you.

Golf balls are going to have an off-center center of gravity. Knowing where it is can be important supposedly for aligning the ball for putting and driving. Don't know if you've seen this video from Golfweek where Mike Schy is talking about how he determines if a ball is balanced enough to put in play by Bryson.

So my wife has given her approval to convert half our garage into a golf simulator setup in 2022. The ceiling height is 8'9'' tall and I'm 5'11''. Is this enough space to swing driver? I already have a fairly shallow swing as it is so I think it's enough but I wanted to run it by you guys since I know a few of you already have a simulator.

Also, what are the things I need to buy and prepare for? I'm going to start hunting for deals now - my budget's ~5,000 dollars for this project.

Depending on your climate situation, don't automatically rule out an outdoor setup. Cracking balls in your garage is pretty loud. I've got a Mevo+ and cage setup on the side of my house and it's working really well for me. I have all but givin up on ever having a projected image, though. I just use an old 27" display off to the side and that works ok for now. So far, I'm not interested in online play, so I just use the 5 free e6 connect courses that come with the mevo+ and the other apps for practice and I do not putt with it. I cover with tarps when I know it's going to rain. I built a kind of stage for the hitting area, I may pour concrete later.

One of the major costs is your hitting mat situation. When you need to accomodate for lefties, your mat cost is about to double.

Simulator stuff u need
Cage / netting
Stance mat (hitting mat or stance mat and hitting insert)
Impact screen or white Archery Netting
Flooring (framing, squishy material, and turf)
Launch Monitor (Mevo+ or Skytrack)
Lighting
Gaming PC and/or iOS device depending on your LM and software choices
Projector or monitor plus Protecton for them
Racks for clubs
Sound dampening if necessary

I got my rangefinder from Costco for 120ish and it's great.

Things are coming together for a golf trip in the heat in Scottsdale AZ Beginning of August. Probably trying to play 4 rounds. Definitely hitting up both WeKoPa courses ($130 for both) , probably skipping TPC Scottsdale because I'd rather play there some other part of the year and it looks like there are better or more fun courses around there.

Any recommendations for must play courses thereabouts would be really helpful. I probably want to stay within an hour of Scottsdale.

I really don't mind playing in the heat. We play out in Palm Springs in the summer, hottest temp I experienced on the course peaked at 117 and that was a little excessive, but manageable. The ball can really soar in the heat. Big drives, but if you try to record some videos on the course, your phone overheats real fast.

I was mentally and physically playing some of the best golf of my life on the front 9, shooting 2 natural birds and a placing some great chips for 2 eagles(this is wildly good for me), by 15 I topped a drive and duffed 2 chips, completely exhausted. Got home around 4 and passed out with a headache. Seeing as how murder temps are going to be a part of our lives now, I’m looking for hot tips for staying cool. I was pounding water, Gatorade, only had a handful of beers…all my clothes were golf specific. I’m a fat fucker at 6’2” 245 so I know that’s contributing, but is there anything else I’m missing?

When it's really hot, I seek out every little piece of shade I can throughout the round. Usually this means parking the cart in wierd angle and places. Anytime out of the cart and you're not hitting, I try to position my back to the sun if possible, especially on the greens - this is when you are going to spend the most time exposed to the sun waiting for others to hit. Also, if you are someone who takes a ton of practice swings, you may want to cut back on those on the hot days.

E: I keep a towel in my car in a cooler with ice to throw on my head after the round or bring it and use it a few times during the round to cool down, or both. A couple of alcohol units will usually stave off any headache for me, alot can be bad.

The Butt Hole Open Championship is officially over!

Been back from scorching Scottsdale for almost a week and I have not felt the need to go out and golf. My brother mentioned that it's probably too cold to golf in socal, lol.

We did 7 rounds in 6 days and it was ptetty hot 🔥. Highest temperature in the area while we were on course was 109. Everyone wore bucket or full brimmed hats and now I am a convert.

The ball was not flying quite as far as I thought it might off the tee although I did hit close to a personal best drive at 311yds on the last hole of our trip.

A fun thing was that I was hitting so many 4i and 5i off the tees to get in the fairway because we did have competition going for $ and winner takez home a 🏆. Approaches are so much better from the fairway. Who knew ¯\_(ツ)_/¯?

Troon North Pinnacle course had unbelievable greens for the season. The best greens I've probably played on in a decade. And the best maintained greenside bunkers I've played since Covid.

The competition pot $ categories were:

Best 3 9 hole scores (relative to par) - takes trophy

Any hole in one takes all the money for the following categories:

-Best 3 hole score relative to par after a qualifying hole of par or better.
-Lowest number of putts on 9 holes.
-Longest drive in the fairway on a par 5
-Closest to pin on any par 3
-Longest putt
-Longest hole out(nobody holed out but there were a couple close pitches)

I think that was all of them. I took long drive on a par five 304yrds and long putt at 17 paces. Big brother took low puts for 9 at 13 (on fire putting plus a few putts from fringes which didn't count against you. Three way tie for low 3 holes (at even).
Little brother took the 🏆.

The trophy before the plate that I ordered.:

You like it?

Pretty stoked that kiz won the last one and Finau won on Monday. I was thinking to myself that Finau tied for 4th going into the last day could lead to a victory. Two of my faves probably due to them showing up in youtube videos. I think Kizner was the first "fourplay" pro and Finau played with Eric Anders Lang.

Pat Perez was also on the hunt going into the last day. I would love to play with him after seeing him on a foreplay episode. I love it when better players encourage and complement lower skilled players.
