When a tree grows, it is soft and pliable. But when it's dry and hard, it dies.

Hardness and strength are death's companions. Flexibility and softness are the embodiment of life.

That which has become hard shall not triumph.

In Adult Swim's Mike Tyson Mysteries, retired boxer/rapist Mike Tyson goes on adventures solving mysteries with his adopted Asian daughter, a ghost, and a pigeon voiced by Norm MacDonald. Following in the proud tradition of Adult Swim cartoons this show makes no loving sense and is pretty sweet, why aren't you nerds watching it?

I'm guessing that the cartoon makers enjoy making fun of the guy who established the rules for modern boxing, and who also ruined the life of Oscar Wilde by getting him convicted for homosexuality.

That is hands down the best news I've heard all day. I feel like no one knows about this show, which is a shame because it's the best new original show Adult Swim has had in a while.

It's a pretty good self imposed community service. I get to laugh at the perfect recreation of the insane as poo poo Hanna-Barbera cartoon formula and Mike probably let's off a lot of steam without accidentally killing another astronomer.

Echoing this, it nails that classic Adult Swim feel. I'll definitely keep following this one. Mike is surprisingly hilarious and Jim Rash is killing it and any excuse to hear Norm Macdonald is fine by me.

Last night I marathonned the first 6 episodes and found them hilarious. Not too sure how I feel about the pigeon talking about how he wants to rape the daughter and them being okay with that, but I did find the joke where the ghost felt really bad after his rape joke to be pretty funny.

I was shocked at the end of the first episode when they showed actual Mike Tyson. I didn't think they'd be able to cast him in a show that mostly takes the piss out of him, I thought it was just a voice actor who sounded similar. It makes me feel much better about him as a person, even if he did murder all those astronomers.

I really can't believe it's acceptable to cast a convicted rapist and at like he's all cool and funny now. This show looks good but I'm not watching it because he's a loving rapist and that's not OK>>>

I came here to chew bubblegum and quote 'They Live', and I'm... at an impasse.
I also watched all the episodes. Count me in as a fan. It feels like with the 11 minute length, the often unresolved 'A' plots feel a lot crisper than if it was 22 minutes. But the traditional plotting makes it feels like you go a lot further than in Superjail.

I mean based off the Hangover movies Mike Tyson doesn't seem like the guy who can't take a joke at his expense, which I appreciate, more people should be self aware at how stupid/batshit insane they are.

Yeah it was a terrible crime for what he did 20 years ago, but he paid for his crimes and actually went to prison instead of some assholes who get away with rape or sexual assault because they are famous (see Roethlisberger, Ben). I like the show while acknowledging that Mike Tyson was also a pretty horrible human being, but he hasn't done anything horrible since the 2000s.

Even Mike Tyson has acknowledged that Mike Tyson was a pretty horrible human being. He was in a terrible way up until sometime around the first Hangover movie.

Look, if he wants to deny himself of a funny show because he doesn't believe in the concept of "doing the time for doing the crime" like many Americans, then that's his call. It's a very stupid call and that attitude is very harmful for society but it's his to make.

The best bit was didn't know he was going to be in this show. When I heard about a cartoon about Mike Tyson solving mysteries with his pigeon, I and saw the opening credits, I assumed the pigeon didn't speak. And then he opened his beak and Norm MacDonald's voice came out . . . it was glorious.

You are an odd fellow, but I must say... you throw a swell shindig.

I'm pretty entertained for the most part. I almost kind of think it would be funnier without the whore, rape, porn jokes, though. Not against dirty humor or anything, but part of me is amused enough with the idea of Mike Tyson in a Hannah-Barbara cartoon without it needing any extra help to be edgy.

Also, what kind of hosed up human being stars in a show where they make fun of raping his own daughter? :psyduck:

This is the greatest cartoon since Rick and Morty but I am afraid they'll end up trying to cram in too many serialized elements based off the astronaut episode. In general I prefer serialized over episodic but this show is a case where I think it works best with every episode effectively being a reboot with little continuity. I'd hate to see it get Metalocalypse'd.
