Why do people hate Bruno Mars, he's pretty serviceable funky pop music? I don't get what the hierarchy of pop is, why is Chet Faker or Sia allowed but others aren't?

Decent for dancing to but there are better ones for that, and I'd never put it on just to listen to it. Whenever people mention how good uptown funk is I show them Zapp/Roger (specifically doo wa ditty), because that song just completely apes Roger Troutman's style and songwriting tricks and makes it sound, as you said, as "generic funk" as possible.
