I reckon the burden of captaincy got to him. If he had the whole Sri Lanka tour as captain he might've had a better WC, but they stuck with Cook for too long.

As much as we make fun of it, maybe the England players actually do just need to play their natural game. Make Root captain, free Morgan and Buttler and Ali to play much more aggressively, find a fast bowler or two who can actually bowl fast and England will be at least as good as Pakistan.

His average has dropped by 10 every year since 2010. English Syndrome isn't caused by being the captain.

edit: England will not have a good fast bowler until they stop producing garbage green tops and send anyone with natural talent to be ruined by flower's reeducation camp.

What England needs is to have current players go to school fetes and allow themselves to be cleanbowled by 6 year olds. Booney did it at my school fete and I played junior cricket for a few seasons, long enough for my parents to realise I was well poo poo and get me to try something else. Also they need to stop being classist shites. Baby steps

Pretty great post

quote:

Morgan, handed the England captaincy after failing to make the strong Ireland line-up, is another cult figure.

“We hoped that coming from a bigger cricketing nation like Ireland, Eoin’s influence would rub off on the team,’’ said the ECB’s managing director Paul Downton.

“And that certainly has been the case.’’

Yes, because I get to shout abuse at them and laugh when they fail, also cheer on the Afghans.

And iirc public schools are called such because they started existing before there were such things as state schools and they were called so because private schools had entrance examinations and the only public school entrance exam was does your dad have fat stacks of cash.

this is funny because from where im from at least most of the public (state) schools either dont have sports programs beyond standard PE class or the sports programs they have are garbage. i think we played cricket about 2 or 3 times in the 3 years i did PE in high school. then again, we always tended to play 'gaelic football' because everyone kept stealing the australian rules footballs, so maybe my school wasnt the best example.

most of our top cricketers/footballers come from private schools, and i think a lot of the reason why is because private schools have coherent sports programs available. plus they make the kids play on weekends, whereas public schools prefer to have as little to do with the kids as possible. unless they go to a private school with a program in place, if most kids want to get into a sport they often have to do it off their own bat through sporting clubs and go through that system instead.

Up here north of the tweed we have a specialist school for public school kids who show talent at rugby

What I have learnt from Glenn Maxwell is that the most important thing a short format cricketer can have is a willingness to look like a right twat when you gently caress up in the attempt to smash a huge fast score. Nobody is more willing to look like a twat than flintoff, therefore put him in charge of the ECB.
