yeah this. That shirt does nothing for me and seems way too similar to other kits.

In saying that NZ cricket have gone through so many different colours and styles that they don't really have an identity. It's about time they chose a colour and stuck to it really.

We've previously had such vibrant team colours as beige, grey and slightly darker grey. I think poo poo brown is currently available, maybe we should snaffle that up.

What really? I have tickets to the NZ semifinal and I'm gonna be pissed off if they're playing in Australia instead. Would this require some really bizarre results to eventuate?

The impression the stats give is that they're basically good at one thing - taking wickets early on - and other than that they're really bad. So if you get a day like today when they don't take wickets early on...

Interestingly Sri Lanka are also good at only one thing, and that is not losing early wickets. The stage is set for a perfectly balanced match between England's lovely death bowling and Sri Lanka's lovely death batting, what a mouthwatering contest!

What's the forecast for the rest of this game NZ goons? Should I keep watching expecting a result or can I switch over to the other game?

Right now it looks like it's going to continue to be patchy like this for the rest of the night. I predict they'll complete the game but SA's innings will be constantly interrupted with the target readjusted all the way through.

Edit: looking way better now, much brighter.

Mitch sucks, this is absolutely typical of his bowling. He'll pick up 2 or 3 meaningless wickets in the last over or two and his status as a *wicket taker!!!* will be confirmed. Anybody who rates him as a bowler has never actually watched him bowl.

He's got the ability to accelerate the scoring himself, he doesn't just have to nurdle singles. I guess now's a good time to give him a bit of a test instead of trying it out in the semifinal.

Taylor should be the once that accelerates the run rate here, not Elliott. He seems to have lost a ton of confidence in the last year or so huh?

Regardless, good to see Elliott be more aggressive.

Taylor is slow as hell today but in the context of the game I'm pretty happy for him to just be an immovable rock while most of the runs come from the other end. His innings has been chanceless I think, and given how scratchy he's looked in every other game that's an accomplishment.

I like Adam Milne and I think he could be a key part of the team in the future but he bowled maybe two yorkers in the entire World Cup. Starc seems to be able to produce full overs of them. The top order can hopefully deal with that but it's a big ask for part timers, or even specialist batsmen without their eye in.

But when the Australians suddenly started to get the ball swinging counter-intuitively after around 20 overs this afternoon, by which time Smith had employed a cordon of catchers in front of the wicket (a reverse swing strategy) but very few behind it, questions were being raised.

By commentators and umpires, if not the crowd lounging languidly on the grass banks.

"I don't know if we are doing anything differently," Voges said today when asked if he could pinpoint why, for the second match in succession, reverse swing was a weapon for Australia but a mystery to New Zealand.

It's a World Cup, if the results of the final match are that the teams are too evenly matched then really it should come down to whoever is highest in the ICC ODI rankings. You want to know who deserves to be called world champions for the next four years, and even as a NZ fan something about that would seem a bit wrong for a team that is regularly trounced by the big three.

At that point why even bother having a World Cup? Just give a big trophy to the highest ranked team on an arbitrary date every four years.
