The end! No moral.
Asher
HP 24/24 | Armor 2 | Urge: 3 | XP: 4/10 | Scarred

Asher glanced aside at seemingly nothing.

"There is meat. The rock-thing said living things are here. The Nomi-thing proves it. It will eat its fill, soon, but not now." The beast paused as if listening to an unheard voice. "It knows they would make for a great hunt, yes. But it is outnumbered. It is not stupid. If it betrays them, it dies. And then it does not eat anything, ever again. Or perhaps the witch brings its body back to life. A mindless corpse. Is that what it wishes? To give up hot, frothing blood for dirt? Dirt does not flow. It does not spray. The earth does not struggle beneath claws or scream as fangs sink into it."

Asher's tongue hung out as she spoke, drooling copiously. Her eyes rolled back, no doubt imagining an incredibly grisly scene. After a moment they snapped back into focus and Asher leapt up onto all fours, growling at her shadow.

"No. Not even her. Especially not her. She gave it a gift. It will tear it from its mind if it says that again! It will live and hunt and kill, for as long as it may. But it will destroy itself if it attacks Sofia. Do not forget this!"

Asher seemed to be having a very interesting conversation with herself, seemingly unaware that she was talking out loud.

What?
Korak
HP 22/24 | Armor 1 | Status: Confused (-wis) | Appetite: Mental Dominion | XP 4

Korak says to the group at large, "This is Ika-Taba. He was made mute by someone called, uh, "The Seer of Hearts." Close translation. Think he's just curious about us."

To Ika'Taba, Korak practices his Vitrayan, and says, "Hi. I am Korak. We are colonists and settlers, we thought this world was un-inhabited. Most of us would prefer to live here peacefully. Sorry about Asher - she is confused. Right now, we are going to pick up pieces of our star-ship and its cargo, over there, with the smoke."

Then, he turns around and kneels in the dirt to have a face-to-face conversation with Asher, where he will try to explain the nature of psionic attacks. But Asher is already in the middle of a lively conversation with nobody else, so Korak says nothing, and listens.

Something crazier than usual is going on with Asher's 'mind-light,' viewed through the silver lens of Kalivariba's Mistake. This shaded flickering is some complex, knotted mess of magic, psychic, and madness. But there's something fascinating going on at the heart of it, and Korak wants to understand it. And he wants to fix it.

Figuring Asher out by talking and hugging is like an uphill battle on a slippery cliff face. It won't work. She's too volatile to be treated like a brother, she's too smart to be trained like a beast, and Korak has sworn off the Clan's old way of breaking a slave's soul. This calls for a lateral approach. Let's open our mind, open our chakras, watch the flickering light-and-shadow play of Asher's thoughts, let it imprint on Korak's mind, and see what kind of sense it makes.

Infinite Oregano
Dec 31, 2007

I'm going to make my friends eat infinite oregano and they'll have to do it because the recipe says so!
Asher

As you talk to the voice the world around you grows darker and darker, the shadows grow longer - consuming the bright light of this world. All detail around you is lost as all those who surround you are lost to shadow.

You are alone.

At first, it seems to be quiet. However soon the eerie silence is replaced by a dull, distant roar.

Korak

You stare deep into Asher's mind-light, whatever the source of this disturbance (right now, at least) it is not external but internal, something from the depths of Asher's soul.

Taking your cue, you delve - as your senses shut out the outside, the world around you fades and you find yourself in a dark place, slightly humid and... slightly warm, like a dark jungle prison, but empty. Asides from Asher, you are alone in silence - then a distant roar echoes forth from all around.

Asher hasn't noticed you yet, in fact you might not be visible to her, however you can make yourself known should you wish so.

Korak and Asher

The roaring coalesces into a voice (that Asher recognises from earlier, however it seems even louder somehow) it is loud, and as it speaks the texture of the 'air' here shifts and buffets you, as though the air was growing heavier and tighter.

"HMPH. Their twisted words have gotten to you, you feel FEAR you feel REGRET yet all you DESIRE is to serve, to be their pet. Perhaps your fellow prisoners are less to your liking right now, but that will change. The petty crippled insect that you were wrongfully stopped from tearing limb-from-limb and feasting on its entrails! That will be a fine choice. You might not like insects, but this world has more of them - you will acquire the taste! And if you get a taste for insects... there's a very big one that is a thorn in your side, thinking he can control you. You should shatter his frame to show that he is NOTHING before you! It is your COWARDICE that is holding you back." is what it booms, almost deafening but both of you know that this is something of a primal essence, something deep from within Asher, and it consequently is making itself hard to ignore. However currently it appears to have no physical presence, and this void remains dark, yet hot and humid - its shouts causing this 'place' to heat up noticeably.

Korak

Neither Asher nor the disembodied voice appear to have noticed you thus far, and the way back is still open to you easily, your helmet protecting you. But from what you can gather of this mindscape you have entered and how the voice seems to operate... it's not an external influence whatsoever. Perhaps it is a manifestation of the curse that Asher bears, you are aware of this much - this was partly why Asher was kept so far away from the other prisoners, excluding simply being such a predatory beast, but that the manifestation of her curse might have... unpredictable effects.

However you are well aware that you are effectively... here. You could merely observe, but you could also interact, however being an impartial observer has its benefits.

What do you do?

Asher

Once more you feel its voice roil your blood, this dark and hot and humid place is somewhat oppressive.

Yet it feels familiar.

Even if you would want to leave it seems that you cannot, for now. The outside world has long faded, to return from these dark depths would not be easy... at least not without acquiescence...

What does this remind me of? Also, what do you do?

Everyone Else

Asher seemingly has gone catatonic in some fashion, her muscles stiffening and although she stands where was was moments before, her motions have stiffened entirely as her eyes go vacant. Korak on the other hand is seemingly meditating or something while standing up, you're not sure if he can hear you or not if you tried to communicate with him but he's using that helmet of his somehow.

Lyrius

As this is happening Sivotar returns... from wherever they went off to. Truth be told you were a little distracted by the introduction of more fellow survivors that they presumably slipped away then, and usually you'd be bountifully aware of a glowing golden beacon floating around... so maybe they went up towards the sun? Maybe sentient lights like to bask in the sun or something. As it notices the newcomers it begins floating about rapidly and chattering to them, introducing itself.

Byrra doesn't seem to pay it much heed and is instead staring at the Asher/Korak event, warily. Ika'Taba wipes off the words it had written on and sits in thought for a moment, thinking about what to write next before they get distracted by Sivotar appearing, and simply sits there staring at it for a moment.

What do you do?

Everyone Else

As this is happening, from above floats down a glowing orb of energy, much like a very tiny star. It chirps as it recognises you and starts floating about rapidly between you, speaking common to you in a high pitched, fast voice "Oh hello hello! What do we have here? You're new! You must be Korak and company's friends! You don't look like you're from around here! I'm Sivotar!" it says as it gives each of you a looking over. It is bright and its presence brings warmth, and seems... friendly enough? For whatever it is.

It does however seem to recognise, Asher, Korak, Lyrius, and the others - and is more interested in you. It doesn't seem that interested in Ika'Taba right now though. Ika'Taba seems distracted by Sivotar, and isn't doing much else right now.

What do you do?

Korak
HP 22/24 | Armor 1 | Status: Confused (-wis) | Appetite: Mental Dominion | XP 4

Blah, blah, blah. This is what Asher is cursed to listen to? Korak has had his lifetime's fill of manipulative, derogatory tyrants. The concussion might be shortening his fuse, but he's in no mood to sit back and listen to anyone get talked to like that. This loving booming primeval curse-voice is just like his mother.

Korak's mental avatar sidles up alongside Asher, and in that cool, psi-crystal enhanced, mind-to-mind language that finds its own translation, he says, "Ksst. Hey. It is just trying to make you feel bad about yourself, so that you will do what it wants. If you listen, it will just find a way to make you feel worse later. It is a huge bitch. You have been doing good, you are not a coward, and you really don't like eating bugs, do you? Tell it to shut up, I got your back."
