Tyranid Raid On Naraka Hive Fleet Cerberus (Cynic Jester) vs. Scions of Koronus, A Rogue Trader Fleet (JcDent) Planet: Naraka (Mining) Scenario: The Raiders Points: 550 RT Plot: Decoy Rogue Trader Ships Lure of the Expanse, RT Cruiser Stars of Inequity, Carnage class Destroyers of Vath, Xeno squadron "Faith and Coin", actually a decoy transport "Scandalous Wench", which retroactively rolled Ld 5 and ruined a beautiful ram. Damage: 1 Hp on each cruiser "The Rock" Xeno Escort tentacle'd to death. Renown: +3 Rolls: Skybot the Merciless posted:
This had been a good side venture for Aphesius. Even far away from native Koronus, he was still at the top of his game. That "game" usually involved shooting some petty tyrant to take control of his planet. Of course, since negotiations on Naraka broke down rather violently, he had been forced to do just that. And now, the mining planet was all his, and Aphesius was free to report the success to his Eldar Corsairs allies. Hiss ships were flying in a loose formation. A Byevoor escort squadron was flying the vanguard, with the trophy pirate vessel Stars of Inequity providing long range support. Even though the Eldar had assured him that there was no danger there, Aphesius felt he had to be prudent. His own flagship was flying close to an asteroid field, scanning it for anything lootable. The last and limping in formation was "Faith and Coin". It wasn't the real cruiser - in fact, this was just a crude cruiser shaped frame hammered onto an old transport ship, "Scandalous Wench" was the name and it was crewed by some of inept, bumbling pirates Aphesius had ever encountered. Only engines, life support, bridge and a small battery remained on the gutted ship and Aphesius ensured their loyalty by always keeping the ship in his sights. It was a useful piece to have when bluffing, but nothing more. "Sir, we have contact... Tyranids at the gas cloud!" Before the fleet could react, a tyranid cruiser class organism and three ugly oversized escorts slid out of cover provided by the cloud. The enormous beast fell to his ravenous instincts almost immediately and turned towards the planet. The escorts, however, flew straight ahead. Inequity had just enough time to brace for impact as foul bioplasma bypassed the shields and burst onto the hull. Trader's own Xeno escorts turned to engage, but their weapons failed to dent the thick armor. Victory shot a lance blast at the massive ship, but it only detonated a shield spore RIP Bob the Nid It took the combined might of both real cruisers to take down two of the horrid alien escorts. Nevertheless, one of the got through unscathed and vomited plasma on the aft of Expanse. Aphesius cursed the foul beasts and ordered the ship to come to a new heading. As the larger Tyranid regained its composure (no doubt helped by accurate long range fire from the Carnage class), it turned towards Inequity. Just then, "Faith" contacted the flasgship and delivered an atypically brave statement: they would ram the tyranid ship. It was risky, but there was hope that the frame would both sotften the blow and do some damage to the alien ship before collapsing. Minutes passed as everyone on the bridge watched the sensor screen, where a green triangle marked SW was approaching a red enemy square. A few more moments and... impact! The crew cheered at the maneuver and Aphesius thought that maybe the pirates were actually getting better (due to his proximity, of course). Alas, all the joy faded when a more accurate sensor scan revealed that the "impact" had been nothing more than pirates detonating charges (no doubt mugged off some miners) to free their ship from the frame and then darting away. The trader swore that next time, he would not be merciful to these dogs. It took a few more ours and Rock's demise in a horrid tentacle embrace to finally slay the space beast. By that time, escorts were chasing down the remaining nid organism, enjoying all the wonders of of escort battles. Ignoring the fleeing pirates, the two cruisers did their slow maneuvers to get both withing reach of the 'nid and bring their guns to bear. The creature, acting on instinct, was heading towards Naraka, and who know what it could do! Salvo after salvo of battery was sent towards the beast, giant torpedoes streaked through space, and Inequity showed the long range mastery of the crew - and all for naught - the ship was too small, too nimble, too well armored by its fell biology. The only upside was that one stray shot eventually fell on a mining complex on Naraka, eradicating a brewing Chaos cult. The beast escaped. "At least we have the planet" Aphesius blurted, surly from the fight. "M'lord, we have... remembered this relic. I think you should have it" the miners said marking the position of centuries old ship prow with intact arrester engines, happy not be eaten. fool_of_sound posted:poo poo, well I'm getting real tired of having to recruit new people. Maybe a campaign wasn't the best idea, considering goons. Maybe we should just make a TG thread and maintain the channel, and just play whenever people are up to it? I'll still run the game, if people are still into it, but it feels like most of the interest is dying out. Maybe. I like the idea of BFG more than the execution. Maybe I'm just a buzkill who won't have fun, no matter what.
