I like learning about stuff like that but it's rare that I ever get to use it. It was more of a post about Blade Runner PC though.

Outcast had a really impressive voxel engine too, down to leaving 3D footprints. It was also the only game I know of that could do texture filtering in software, whereas all other games at the time were pixellated in sw mode like Quake and HL. The whole engine was ridiculous, with real-time depth of field, bump mapped reflective water, 3D volume lighting and particles. Crazy lush visual stuff for 1999.
