BKPR posted:I will be enjoying indie darling The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth while you nerds get mad over Boobiesoft and EGay. Or perhaps the revolutionary Kickstarter-funded FTL: Faster Than Light, a seamless fusion of real-time strategy and roguelikes Any game made by more than five people is so droll

enraged_camel posted:What really sucks is two things: walkthroughs and achievements. Might as well destroy the Internet, since that is the only way to restore credibility to electronic gaming endeavors Achievements do suck, but if somebody likes them, whatever, some people want more structure in their gameplay, who cares E: ^^^Dark Souls was good for what it attempted to accomplish yet fell short, 2 is a much better manifestation

Concerned Citizen posted:qtes and minigames are pretty much everything wrong with video games now. also open world games. The real crime in DX:HR was almost having an engaging plotline and setting, the sidequests were interesting but failed to cover the rush job that it was Listening to the commentary, they were all, "We debated for weeks as to whether or not to let the player murder people in the LIMB Clinic" All that time spent debating the merits of a sociopath simulator, you could have made a coherent game that did not involve The Illuminati

enraged_camel posted:Well no, someone just needs to make a game where most of the gameplay and plot elements are dynamic and randomized, so that writing walkthroughs and solutions is impossible. Then people would complain about not seeing everything on their first playthrough. Listen, I will not dispute that EA, Blizzard and others are lazy and simply want a Streamlined Content Delivery System so as to garner as much money as possible. "Just have ten or so different plot points and conclusions" and have it not be purely text-based or with simplistic 2D graphics and the coder mumbling into a circa 2000 microphone is impossible on any schedule. If I proposed anything like that on Kickstarter, people would roll on the floor laughing, that poo poo is a pipe dream, and these are the people that gave $2.5 million to FTL It's why Minecraft was so popular, the illusion of freedom without the need to create a story or actual graphics that represent things coherently

enraged_camel posted:FTL? ahahah It helped LPers make fucktons of ad revenue so it can't be all bad, right Seriously, though, outside of Easy Mode FTL is pure punishment and, like Minecraft, creates the illusion of depth and complexity while doing nothing to convince the general public that video games are indeed An Art Form and not Expensive Electronic Hobbies

Business Gorillas posted:roguelikes are like you sitting in a house building legos but at random intervals a russian comes through the floor and destroys all the legos you've built He destroys whatver you built, but then tears well up in his eyes as he rifles through his dingy leather jacket, pulls out another Lego brick, hands it to you, then walks out of the room sobbing. It is his entire life
