I've recently been reading up on the French Revolution (the one everyone vaguely remembers from 1789 onwards) and this short pamphlet from the Direct Action Movement was very enlightening. Its focus is on the Sans-culottes as a social force, the alliances between it and the radical thinkers and factions over a seven year period. One of the difficulties of studying the French Revolution is its constant fluctuations, personalities join groups, drop out, and then come back in another group, etc. Thispamphlet explained a number of very important power plays particularly concerning the Enragers and the Revolutionary Republican Society of Women.
