Temur Arderne

His own head spinning as he tries to follow whatever cockamamie stunt Kazama has cooked up to smash through their enemies like tenpins this time, Temur barely gets his shield up in time to absorb the flung orb's near calamitous ricochet force. Rising from the wide stance, Temur eye quickly scans for the spirits and seeing the devastation once again wrought by his companion, Temur locks his gaze on the hoard guardian. "Chastise him for improperly warning us of danger close later, Isaac! We must finish this guardian!" and with that Temur leaps into the melee with Lina and Penitent, sword flashing in the light of the hoard as he slashes at their foe.

Quick Action: Use Buck Up!

Nap Ghost
Horde Guardian sheds 64 damage worth of coins!

Even as you surround and prepare your weapons, this moving pile of treasure and hatred fights to the last! Ryu, taking a brief break at the back, finds his eyes once again caught by the glint of ancient weaponry and heraldry. Images of incredible swords fill his mind, and as he tries to shake it off, Ryu realizes he's tossed his sword aside, where it almost disappears among the treasure!
Guardian Demand's Ryu's riches! 28 vs MD hits! Ryu takes 30 damage! Ryu loses his sword and must use a standard action to pick it up!

While Ryu digs for his sword, the great mass of gold rares up to punish you for your temerity... and its mighty fists swing at Penitent and Pyrrhus! Or, at least, they would. The ancient dragon and the battle-hardened paladin scatter its attacks into so much coinage.
Guardian swings at Penitent and Pyrrhus! uh... i rolled a 1 and a 2.
yeah okay i'm gonna call it.

It is but the work of moments for you to finally pull this animated treasure pile apart, having finally dispelled the sorcerous traps which enthralled you when you first entered this room. You collapse into piles of coins, which look like so much gravel next to your mission and your quest. How long has it been? Hours? A year?

Slowly, the plan drifts back to your mind. Magical explosives, set to flood this very chamber with lava, and a chance to draw the Red himself from hiding within the magma of the volcano. The goblin you came here to rescue is still here, finally lucid. Which is to say he's stuffing every available container with coins, but the remote detonator still sticks out of a pocket.

"Coming thru. 'Scuse me. Need that." Ryu relieves the goblin of the detonator and sifts through the detritus of Ages for his sword and potions. "Take a moment to catch your breath, gentlemen--and Lina--but only a moment. With any luck, we'll be joined shortly by an ancient wyrm and battling him to the death in an active volcano full of arcane explosives. No pressure."

Ryu

Ryu idly fiddles with the detonator in his hand. From the safety of the war room, the Dragon Slayers' attack on the Red seemed doable, their tactics sound. Only now, as the battle looms before him, can he truly appreciate its magnitude.

When did they last attempt something so ill-advised? Robbing the Drakkenhall Treasury in broad daylight, perhaps, but they had aid from the Blue and the Masera Clan. Outside, the entirety of Foras' army stood with them. Now, it's just them against the Scourge of Foras, in its own lava-filled lair, and Ryu feels apprehension creep into. Can they truly slay the Burning Tyrant?

He shakes away the thought. It no longer matters if they can win; the only way out is through. The goblins have cleared the chamber, and every moment they wait merely delays the inevitable.

"It's a nice pile of shiny stuff you got here," Ryu shouts. Come to think of it, it was the gold's luster that initially caught his attention, more than the idea of its worth as currency. He bellows even louder: "Be a shame if something awful suddenly happened to it!" He drops the detonator onto a pile of gold and slams his fist into the runic box.

It's time.

Isaac Boreas

Once the foes have been dispatched Isaac takes a moment for himself to expunge the lingering remnants of the curse that yet clouded his mind. He had not expected such tricks from the Red, but admitting that red dragons possessed cunning had always been something of a blind spot to him for some reason. He throws a sidelong glance at Pyrrhus as the undead dragon scoops up a claw-full of the Red's hoard and grins. "Ahh, now this is the height of blasphemy! No red dragon alive would even play with the thought of touching the Red's hoard. This is pure insanity." He throws his head back and lets out a hearty laugh. "What a good day to die!"

Isaac lets out a deep sigh and shakes his head. It was time to carry on with the next stage of the plan. "Now, before we proceed..." He stops talking as Ryu suddenly punches something on the ground. "What are you-" He freezes up as he realizes just exactly what had transpired. His eye begins to twitch. "Toylson made those void charges..." His eyes open wide in horror. "Take cover!" Isaac leaps behind a pile of gold and covers his head with his arms!

Nap Ghost
You instinctively take cover, and just in time! Gold and jewels fly up around you as suddenly the world seems to lurch, and you clutch yourselves in a vain hope that you are not simply buried in gold or the very mountain itself.

But just as quickly, it stops. You risk a glance upwards, and still see the gold and jewels around you. Did something go wrong? But then, you notice the stars in the sky, and the oppressive red glow that begins to creep in around the treasures and gold.

Toylson's explosives have more than flooded the treasure chamber. They've sent it out the side of the mountain!

Quickly the mounds of metal begin to melt and coalesce into islands of gold that thankfully float on the lava beneath your feet. Thank goodness for your fire resistance potions, or the sheer heat would be cooking you alive already! But you still need to be careful, lest the liquid rock pull you underneath its molten flows.

As you scramble to relative safety, another eruption rocks the volcano, sending arcs of fire through the night sky. But this was no ordinary eruption. Your plan worked! The Red has left its chamber to save its treasure! This is your chance to strike!
It is only as he roars in terrifying fury, swooping down on the side of the mountain, that you consider your sudden position.
It lands below you on the flow, seemingly unable to stay aloft. The elemental annihilator! The Red's wings crackle and stiffen from the residual power. It can't seem to fly for very long!

You prepare yourselves, as best you can, to take on another Icon. The Red dies tonight!

The Red comes roaring out of the lava flow, sending plumes of molten rock as he climbs down the mountain after you. Your experience and speed can't keep up with the dragon's Iconic will! The Red's breath sweeps over you, leaving you only able to desperately cover your extremities. Temur's shield just holds against the breath, but the rest of you are not so lucky. Lina in particular is taken unawares, and takes terrible burns!

Hits Isaac and Ryu, ongoing fire damage increases to 20 and becomes a hard save![/i]

The force of an Iconic dragon commands the flames as well! Lina is fortunate to avoid further flames, but Isaac and Ryu find the flames wreathing their bodies taking on a blue hue, taking on a searing heat and a lifelike will to live!

"Blue fire? That's cute. Takes me back to simpler times." The Dragon of Drakkenhall grabs the serpentine flame and flings it aside, with the nonchalance of a man who considers that a completely normal thing to do.
Reaction to save-ends effect: Indomitable! 15, success
No ongoing means no increased ongoing. Move to the Red

Powered by his own heat, he leaps across the lava flow and the pieces of still-intact rock within, weaving past the dread wyrm's furious swipes. As he closes the distance, the monster prepares to bite him in two...and finds that it cannot! In its flailing, the Red has inadvertently moved Ryu beneath its great maw, and he's plunged Wyrmcutter into its throat! "Gonna be a close shave," he observes, and not for nothing; the platform that carried him there is destroyed. Gravity takes its course, and Ryu carves a long wound along the bottom of the great dragon's throat and jaw before dropping into the molten river. It's a nice cool bath compared to the living dragonfire, but it takes effort just to keep pace with the rest of the battle.

Isaac Boreas

Even as Iconic fire threatens to consume him, Isaac senses something familiar and otherworldly approaching in the air. He casts a glance down at the obsidian orb and notices a faint red light pulsating within its murky depths, confirming his suspicions. "This far from the Frost Range? It can hardly be chalked up to mere coincidence at this point. Does it follow me? Curious." He grins greedily as he turns his gaze heavenwards. "It is practically throwing itself at my feet and begging me to harness its power!" To the north he can see the stars in the night sky wink out en masse as a thick and oppressive overcast of black clouds roll in, and the slopes of the volcano are soon battered by a howling freezing wind. A gale carrying a vast source of negative energy to be grasped and wielded by he who knows how to.

"The Red. Living catastrophe! Destruction incarnate!" Isaac reaches towards the sky with an empty hand and the clouds above gather into a violent vortex, the eye of the storm centered on him. "I do not deny that when it comes to bringing ruin you stand second to none." A dark tendril reaches down from the sky and envelops the necromancer's hand. "But simply causing death does not mean that you hold any sway over it!" The overpowering energy surging into him was as sickening as it was wonderful. "But I do." He throws his head back and laughs maniacally. "And I say that death WILL claim you today!" The black wind descends on the iconic dragon, tearing at its very life essence!

As his master focuses all his attention on eradicating the Red, it is up to Pyrrhus to keep a level head and prevent the fool from getting pulled under by the lava flow that he had seemingly neglected entirely. He plucks Isaac up with a claw and takes off.

Standard & Move & Quick: Epic Cackling Soliloquist: Isaac gains 24 THP, heals 37 HP using a free recovery and steals the escalation die. :siren: Until the end of his next turn no one but Isaac can use the escalation die, and he treats it as if it were an 8! :siren:

The deathly chill of the north bears down on the lava flow, cooling the molten rock!
But the thrashing of the Red is greater than mere weather. With a surging motion, the great dragon breaks apart the treasures and melting piles of gold floating on the liquid rock. Lina's adhesive holds as the three of you are rocked back and forth by the waves, but Penitent falls into the lava as the ground gives away underneath him!

Platform DCs are reduced by 5 by Isaac!
The Red destroys 2 platforms! The one 3 of you are sharing is saved by your efforts. Penitent's platform sinks! He's stuck!

But you have no opportunity to respond as the Red's great bulk rears out of the side of the mountain. He moves like a wave, practically ignoring your desperate attempts to stop him with mere blades! Temur, Ryu, and Lina stand together on their swiftly melting pile, facing an Icon of fire!

The Red moves to Engage Lina and Temur (while remaining engaged with Ryu and Penitent)
Ryu and Penitent get Opportunity Attacks! Penitent hits, 44 damage! Ryu just misses! 9 damage!

But the Dragon Slayers are up to the challenge! A great claw comes bursting out of the lava, but it is deftly parried, blocked, and dodged! You escape totally unscathed!

The Red Attacks with fiery claws! Targets Penitent, Lina, and Temur!
Misses Penitent, Misses Lina, Misses Temur. uh...

But as the ancient treasures sink and melt, the angry spirits trapped within them rise out of the toxic spumes, mingling with their smoke to form gaseous terrors that swoop to engulf you. Or, they would have, but their furious reach is no match for your skill... Except Lina! She is caught unawares and breathes the burning, toxic fumes. They choke the words from her lungs with malicious intent!

The Red summons 4 Smoke Minions! They roll 32 for initiative and move immediately!
Engage and attack Isaac, Ryu, Temur, and Lina!
Misses Isaac (?!), Misses Ryu, Misses Temur, Hits Lina!
High roll! Lina takes 55 damage, and will take 55 more if they make any action but a basic action until the end of the Spirits' next turn! (IE Hampered but cooler)

Platforms! No check to move between them, but they're not lasting long!
DC 20 - standard action, preserve a platform
DC 25 - quick action, preserve a platform

DC 25 - standard action, make a platform
DC 30 - quick action, make a platform.

If you go in the lava, you'll be stuck. If someone doesn't get you out, then you'll start getting pulled under.
No damage though, that's literally what I said the resistance potions do.

Everyone is up! Escalation is at 0 for now...

Ryu

With Lina's assistance, Ryu clambers onto a molten mass of debris, held together by only providence and copious amounts of Saint George's Patented Improvably Sticky Goo. He maneuvers it through the lava flow into a nearby boulder. The resulting mix will probably hold. Probably.

Protect the Platform! (Quick): 27

Stumbling to his feet, Ryu coughs a bit as he assesses his surroundings. His head swims. Every thought seems to take weeks; every action, months. Did they underplan? No. It's said that no plan survives contact with the enemy, and that nothing at all survives contact with this particular foe.

Today, that changes. There's nothing outside the acrid air of the room: only the Iconic Red Dragon, the Living Wildfire, Destruction Given Form, and a group with a very specific purpose. "My comrade is only partly correct," he proclaims. "This is not merely the day you die. This is the very hour of your doom!" His body and blade flash with an aura of pale-white flame! "Essence of Drakkenhall Technique: Mountain-Cleaving Gale!" His wild swing is nowhere near the Red, but the force that emerges from Wyrmcutter is enough to pierce through the smoke and slice one of the Red's rear tendons!

Mountain Splitter, targeting 2 groups of 3 enemies (the Red and the smoke mooks. smooks?)
Attacks: 33 vs Red. 35, 26 (miss), CRIT, 33 vs smooks

The Red takes 73 damage + 40 from Wyrmcutter's bonus = 113 damage. It takes an equal amount amount of ongoing and is stuck (save ends both).
The mooks take four separate instances of 73, 36, 146, and 73 damage, wiping them the gently caress out.
Anyone engaged with a target (Isaac, Temur, Lina, and Penitent) takes 18 collateral damage.

Temur Arderne

Temur whirls, braces, and snarls as he brandishes his blade after The Red's ferocious display and Ryu's counter-display of draconic might. But the shadows skirt away, seemingly once more just shadows and not conscripted as minions of the Iconic dragon. The Red seemed to be toying with them still, or perhaps a feint? Guessing at the ancient dragon's specific intent and aims had never worked before so Temur pushed the thoughts aside, and found himself in a pocket within the storm of the fight. The moment hanged and Temur simply took in. Sights, sounds, smells even. Drinking in every part of the battlefield in the opening Ryu had created. He even had time to note to later praise the technique, and reprimand him for its name. Barely any strong winds around Drakkenhall. Stonescouring Wingbeat, or Gale-Rending Claw, perhaps.

Well, all the immediate triage is handled except Penitent being stuck and I can't think of a good way to fix that currently, so.

Lina

“BLAAAAGHAHA!” Lina let out a wheezing scream as the acrid smoke burned her lungs. Penitent, meanwhile, remained steadfastly silent as he slowly sank into the oozing lava, his armor fusing with the molten earth.

Lina doesn’t spot her endangered companion. She’s too busy blindly swinging her axe at he memory of shadowy opponents Ryu already destroyed.

All makt åt Tengil, vår befriare.

Isaac Boreas

"As expected, extinguishing your flame proves to be quite the momentous task indeed!" Isaac maintains his single manic focus upon the Red, paying little heed to the heat or the brief appearance of the hostile spirits before they are blown away by Ryu. "But surely you too must feel it now, how it flickers and dims, on the verge of giving in to the encroaching darkness." The necromancer grins as the icy reaping wind continues to ravage the Red's spiritual essence, convinced that this is the very moment an Icon dies. But yet, after suffering the brunt of the wind's lethality, the Red still remained alive. "Preposterous! Cease your insolent clinging to this mortal coil!" Isaac exclaims and unleashes bolts of dark lightning that rip into the massive dragon!

Meanwhile Pyrrhus, who has been left free to roam the skies, begins his attack run. As he passes over the mightiest dragon of his entire chroma he opens his jaws wide and unleashes his fiery breath upon him. The licks of red flame, enhanced by Isaac's magic and outlined by a ghostly teal aura, unfortunately wash over the scales on the Red's back with little effect. But this hardly phases Pyrrhus. If anything, if he had been able to grievously harm the Red that easily, now that's when he would've been deeply unsettled.

Stop it.
Stop all this nonsense.

Nap Ghost
The Red thrashes in the roiling flowing lava as Isaac's terrible curse works its deathly toll. The last of the golden platforms splits and crumbles into the flow, leaving three Dragon Slayers huddled together against the last remaining rock of melting gold, glue, and stone.

The Red destroys 2 more platforms, leaving a single one!
The platform may not survive The Red's undivided attention...

But The Red seeks revenge against the soul-rending strike from the necromancer. A gout of flame roars into the air, engulfing Isaac and Pyrrhus! Pyrrhus withstands the torrent of fire, undead bone and flesh crackling under the iconic flame, but Isaac falls under the wave of iconic fire! Even as he lies slumped on Pyrrhus' back, the flames threaten to turn his body to ash!

The Red unleashes his fiery breath! 2 targets! Targets Isaac and Pyrrhus!
22 vs PD hits Isaac! 38 vs PD hits Pyrrhus! Both take 75 damage! Isaac is down!
Pyrrhus takes 15 ongoing fire damage! Isaac's fire damage increases to 35!

The Red saves a last gout of flame to sear his own torn flesh closed, sealing the wound left by Ryu's mountain cleaving strike.

The Red saves against Ryu's bleed!

In another part of the flow, Penitent sinks to his neck in the roiling flow of molten rock. The resistance to fire is holding strong, but he is at risk of suffocating in the flow!

Penitent sinks further into the Lava! He is Helpless!
