Temur Arderne

Temur slowly scans the village as he stands watch, scutum and pilum resting against his body, ready to be wielded at a moment's notice. While his face is passive Temur's mind races over what he knows. Organized by the mayor to gather weeds. Keeping the peasants occupied to prevent panic. Smart. Whatever's plaguing this village is intelligent. The tactics and goal are clear, to keep the citizens of Wastemothe afraid and confused by striking isolated individuals without warning, leaving no chance of being immediately discovered. To what end? Monsters seeking food wouldn't bother. Orcs prefer physical brutality. If the map is any clue a dragon is behind it. But why?

The sudden outburst of light applause and cheers interrupt Temur's thoughts and vigil, causing him to turn and spot Findley speaking with what could only be the group of adventurers he mentioned. Quickly he scans his surroundings again before grabbing his armaments and approaching the group.

Once close to the group Temur pauses to look each one over before gruffly introducing himself. "Temur Arderne. What's the situation beyond missing fishermen and hunters?"

Temur locks his gaze with Isaac, his own discerning gaze looking him over for something different. Frail. More familiar with a library than a battlefield. No hesitation introducing himself. Dangerous. After a few moments of silence Temur responds with "Looking for answers." He pulls out the scrap of map he had pulled from the kobold's lifeless corpse and hands it over to Isaac. "Pulled that off an ugly kobold after he ambushed me to the west. All by himself. Piqued my interest, what with him being a single kobold and me heavily armed." Temur pauses, carefully considering his words before continuing with an even tone, "I need to know if I was the intended target of that ambush."

Cutting through the din of stampeding animals and the moans of unseen assailants is the sharp crack of wood on steel, Temur drumming his shield with his spear. "Eyes up, enemies! Need a direction and numbers, ASAP!" With warning and orders relayed Temur tries to lead by example, eyes searching for foes. Unfortunately it seems the warm glow of the torchlight has left him too adjusted to see far into the darkness of the night, to his chagrin.

As Lavi's barbequed meat is consumed by the aberration Temur shouts "Don't just stand there!" spurring the felyne to action, swinging his blade into the more unusual form of the shape-changing flesh creature. Turning back to his own problems, Temur finds his blows still foiled by the rather liquid-like movements of his 'flesh and blood' foes, his spear meeting nothing but the hard packed dirt around him.

Temur continues where Findley leaves off by barking orders more conducive to combat "Overhead strikes, at the same time! Give them nowhere to run but away!" before turning and rushing the larger beast that slipped over the shimmering wall Ryu has maintained. Once more his spear thrusts out and once more the aberration shifts away from the point, but Temur was more then ready for such a thing to happen and follows up with his shield, slamming it into the side of the aberrations' mass as it moves to his left.

Gonna point out Temur did not re-engage after the Blue mooks bailed out.

Hearing the flailing screams from the warped flesh cross the battlefield Temur momentarily loses himself, remembering basic training. "Your flesh is WEAK! You sorry bunch wouldn't last TEN SECONDS IN A REAL FIGHT! The good news is I'm in the business of whipping weaklings LIKE YOU into fighting form!" Shaking the memories away Temur grits his teeth and exhales and forces back the brute before him, spitting out "That your best shot?" Either with incredibly coincidental timing or actual anger the Brute lashes out at Temur, who blocks the assault with shield and spear both, inflicting minor damage while preventing any that would befall him.

"The armored one has a key. Might be useful..." reaching to his belt Temur grabs a coil of rope, bringing one end to the small hole. With a harsh but quiet word in Goblin, the rope begins to slowly crawl along the ground by itself, through the hole and eventually the sealed barracks. Silently and slowly it inches towards the large bony lizardman, its pace plodding but inevitable. After tense moments the rope finally reaches up and snakes around the key, gently lifting it from the lizardman's belt and retreating back the way it came.

Despite the blasts of lightning Temur stands tall, rushing in toward Malfen and attempts to stab her warped flesh multiple times. However, it seems without the rune keeping her in one piece Malfen has decided defense is very important and she slips around all of Temur's attacks. Ryu, thinking her distracted, attempts to capitalize on the moment only to find Malfen's multitude of eyes make her incredibly adept at seeing things coming and further continues darting out of the way of attacks.

Temur graciously accepts the gifted armored and provides martial training alongside Ryu, albeit with more formations and group tactics. But when the others began to fret about how to get Chirik across the Empire without drawing attention Temur assured everyone he would handle it. By not bothering to hide the fact the group had a chuul and the moment anyone balked Temur fell back into his drill sergeant days and besieged the unfortunate guardsman/soldier with verbal lashings on assumptions and discrimination so potent it invariably ended up with the fellow and his nearby allies doing push ups, jumping jacks, and just generally being worked through their paces.

Much to the dismay of many young and hopeful recruits, Temur took an undue amount of pleasure from 'whipping them into proper fighting shape'. While the number of people who 'wash out' are fairly high, it does mean hanger-ons and others looking for an easy pass into fame are quickly sorted out and sent on their way, leaving a well-trained pool of adventurers to do the hard work.

Temur's quieter than usual around Erden, a guarded expression similar to when Isaac questioned his purpose on his face, going as far as to wave off the skull's expectant look as the others introduce themselves. "I'll remain 'that hobgoblin', for now." Looking over Isaac's shoulder he reads the letter and the guarded expressions is replaced by a snarl, Temur stepping away from Isaac while muttering darkly.

Unfortunately, big picture planning was never Temur's strong suit. "Both sides 'wear' a similar 'uniform', though I suppose no one on any side will miss a few bones and corpses." Looking away from the maps Temur grunts. "If it was easy, One Eye wouldn't have bothered asking for help. No use over analyzing, let's get this over with."

Shaken off the dragon Temur's face is the picture of panic for a moment, but then Temur grumbles "You won't shake me off that easy." The rope wrapped around his arm becomes taut and the camera pans along the length of the enchanted rope to the undead dragon, showing the elaborate knot attaching the rope and Temur to the dragon. Using the momentum from the fall Temur swings around back onto the dragon's back, stabbing his spear into the decayed flesh as he lands. "I've got a bone to pick with you! Lecturing US about hubris when you can't see past your own ego!"

As he's forced to bow Temur grits his teeth, straining against himself but unable to fight the power holding him. When released Temur waves off the nearest ghost. "I mean no disrespect, but would prefer we get straight to business..." As Temur pauses the expecting glares of the countless legion of undead bear down upon him, baleful malevolence slowly growing, before Temur adds a flat "My lord." Instantly the aura of malice subsides, and Temur continues. "The sooner the dragon is slain, the better."

Silently thinking up to now, Temur looks over the lich's former prisoner. "Military scout? Good, could use someone with more discipline in the ranks." Speaking now to the group Temur continues "Were we expecting combat, Ryu's plan is sound. However I propose the opposite. As simply talking shouldn't lead to a swift response of force, our group being split shouldn't become an issue, and I'm certain a council of immortal wizards have numerous methods to end a group at once, so if force is applied we shall only lose one or two members and the others learning which lich is attack on sight."
