Every species can smell its own extinction.
People can survive a tornado, the town is full of bunkers too, I didn't hesitate a second to save Chloe.

Every species can smell its own extinction.
The ending was so trite and cliché a lot of people predicted it when episode 1 came out as the worst possible ending. It's not because it's not a happy ending, it's ebcause it negates the entire game before it and makes the whole thing completely pointless.

I mean, if they didn't want to write a Hollywood happy ending, fine, but there were so many ways it could have gone instead that would still be better than what we got.

It's not the worst ending, sure, but it is a disappointment none the less, especially after how good the rest of the game was.

It still feels like a Homer Simpson quote: The lesson is never try.

I get what they were going for, I just think the game fumbled the execution and it also contradicts a lot of the earlier themes.

I mean, a coming of age story where you erase all your decisions is pretty weird. They could have made an ending where neither final choice is perfect and you can't have everything WITHOUT deleting the entire game.

You can like (or love) something and still criticize it's flaws.

You literally everything you've done throughout the game and then change nothing. It's such a boring cliché ending people called it when episode 1 came out. Having the entire game be a dream Max had to try to get over Chloe's death would have been a better ending than this.

Edit: like, the ultimate lesson isn't to learn from life but to just never do anything.

I don't disagree that this was what the devs were going for or that themes are there, I just think the ending is badly executed. It feels awkward and forced instead of natural.

edit: one last thought I think a better ending may have been "save Chloe or catch Jefferson". I know I would've struggled way more with that than the choice we were given (even though I still struggled with it)

Ah yes, the Breath of Fire IV ending.

More sequels should go the LoK route, yeah.
