I think BF1 was my favourite. BF4 and 42 were close, but there was something about the scale of the battles and the limits of the weaponry in BF1 that made it that much more epic. And the objectives felt like tangible objectives, rather than "cluster of buildings" and "other cluster of buildings". Taking and holding the old fort on the hill overlooking the road, or the hardened artillery battery, or the radio room, seemed like it played to a larger narrative.

As a Turk BF1 got me very emotional. But those experimental SMGs that never made to production killed it for me.

i'm coming off a bg3 kick so i want to post some stuff i collected from the game

"careless fling" is actually just druid owlbear form's "crushing flight" that i modified to be a racial skill that uses dexterity. the idea was that i made the character very heavy, very big, and then leapt from the top of the steps above grymforge. i have never done anything in a game so satisfying

something i made for my sister when she started talking about ai generated images

Scaly Haylie

one time pretty recently in bg3 i picked up a goblin i was fighting as an improvised weapon and swung her at a ladder down she was next to, the ladder was destroyed instantly and she fell the height of the ladder to the floor below

how's the endgame (murder barbie dressup)?

Once you start playing around with rings and archetypes, you can do so much murder barbie dress up. The boss rush mode helps a lot, you also can re-roll and play different areas on harder difficulty, chasing extremely OP gear. Right now I've got this Ritualist setup where all my weapons make enemies bleed and with the right combo of skills, I shoot one to hit em with the status effect and the rest of the enemies nearby start dying.

I am having way too much fun with void + void trace rifle + seasonal artifact, I can just aim it at a crowd and they all go pop, then their friends do, then

I've been playing outer wilds on the recommendation of practically everyone and while i do greatly enjoy it i wish i could turn on a baby mode where i can just freely explore without the time limit.

Finger Prince

I hate time limits in games. Imagine reading a book and if you don't finish the chapter in 30 mins, the book ends, or you have to read the chapter over again until you can finish it in 30 minutes. Maybe it made sense in ye olde days of arcade games where they wanted you to keep feeding in quarters, but in an exploration and adventure game? No thank you. The doomsday clock in Xcom 2 ruined the whole game for me.

Scaly Haylie

for what it's worth, if you have the expansion some of the away missions you can set up through the resistance ring lower the doomsday clock. that was a big load off when i was playing

Scaly Haylie

also if you have the expansion it gives you the option when starting a new game to have the upper limit on the doomsday clock be twice as much as normal

very fond of games that let you turn off the timers and qtes

kalel

I don't mind it in outer limits. eventually it's made clear that the reset doesn't actually rewind your game progress. the most important resource in the game is information, and once you have it—not unlike arcade games with level passwords—you can get back to where you were pretty quickly, especially since the game records pertinent information for you across resets. also, it ends up being an integral part of not just the mechanics and the story, but the mood and themes the game tries to convey.

treasure bear

it's a very cool and lovely game, the environmental storytelling is wonderful and heartbreaking

Wertjoe

I do like the things they do with the passage of time before the sun explodes or w/e it is like the brittle core breaking and the sand moving which wouldnt really be possible without a timer that resets but at the same time I'm feeling overly rushed at points, especially brittle core. Oops fell off the ledge now i have to reset, watch the long loading thing with the pictures of what i did then take off and fly back over. I guess my complaint is mostly that i wish everything moved slower. brittle core breaking especially.

(she/her)
I grant you this, but it's also really funny to watch a clip show of the times I beansed it.

Pizza Tower and pikmin are excellent, yes.

Scaly Haylie

beat me1 and started me2 yesterday, dunno what to think of me2 yet. it's a lot....busier???

Scaly Haylie

there's a mechanic where some containers you "salvage" which is to say you find unnamed items of value and sell them to your employer for a fixed amount of space bucks on the spot, every time i do this a little popup shows up on the right side of the screen telling me about how my employers pay me space bucks for salvage, with a picture of space bucks

Scaly Haylie

they removed the keybinds that were present in ME1 for inventory, squad and journal. a true advancement

i'm not gonna say there aren't things to like, i changed my shep from engineer to vanguard and am having a blast with combat so far. i was just expecting an experience pretty identical to ME1 with some added features, but instead it's like "all right boys this franchise has proven its worth let's start feeding it money NOW"

yeah it's the most fleshed out of the trilogy for sure. do all the loyalty missions, even for crew you don't care about/don't bring on missions, that's where a ton of the story is. a couple of them are clunkers IIRC but most of them are good

thanks Saoshyant and nesamdoom for the sigs!

i've just reached the sidequest where you either feed a krogan a fish under false pretenses or tell him the kind of fish he wants doesn't exist and break his heart. i am not exaggerating when i say this has me seriously considering pivoting from paragon to renegade. there's no turning back if i do this, but a heel turn would synergize very well with my class change to vanguard

plus. evil women.

this is probably just some kind of reverse internalised misogyny but renegade femshep comes across as a rule breaking badass whereas male renegade just comes across as a dick, especially in me1

ME2 was developed and released shortly after Bioware was bought by EA, which may have something to do with them leaning further and further away from the "RPG" aspects of their games

The VA for femshep is just much better tbh (except for a few funny lines)
