unreal tournaments problem was it was too much of a good thing. too many good modes and maps that split the playerbase up. also world of warcraft came out the same year.

Quake has ZTN, Campgrounds, Furious Heights, Lost World, Sinister, Cure, Aerowalk, and hell, that's just 1v1 maps.
