I agree that it's a decent Civ game, but not an amazing one at this point. I'd have to compare it to Civ IV or V at launch, in the way that it was a good game but needed an expansion or two to make it really worth it. Similar in overall quality, I agree, but for very different reasons. Civ V at launch was a solidly made game, but also bland, repetitive, and exhausting. BE at launch has some really amazing ideas that make it worth your time, but as a whole is spotty and has questionable design choices that really detract from the overall experience. Also the UI is butt fuckin' ugly.
