TG-Chrono posted:After 10 years in the job, Andrew Demetriou resigned from his post as the AFL chief executive officer. While his tenure ended on a sour note due to the protracted Essendon supplements saga, his legacy will resonate in the game for generations to come. Under his reign, the game underwent unprecedented growth and change. Mainly for the positive. ...except in Tasmania, where he'll forever be loathed for handing the 18th license to West Sydney rather than Tasmania, economic sense be damned. Great OP and

Those that will continue speaking to me after discovering this fact inform me that a good choice of team would be the Kangaroos. Is there an AFL equivalent of that footy banter app Richard Ayoade uses in the IT crowd, else, can someone provide me with a short list of important terms and phrases that will let me participate in communication in this region of Australia? Yeah the Roos are a good choice, they're on the way up and of the two teams who play in Tassie, they have a smaller and less violent/drunken/racist fanbase (in Tasmania, Hawks fans are barely better than Pies fans) and play in the better end of the state.

It's one of those weird situations where I'd be uncomfortable with it ever making its way into real AFL, but I quite like its presence and the dynamic it adds to the preseason comp.

I wonder how long it'll take for anyone to usurp Ballantyne as the No. 1 player everybody loves to hate. He's held it for longer than anyone else I can remember in the modern game. e: i suggest a gif of this video for the av if someone can get it down to size https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_L53r8fLr2E

Actually speaking of weird draws, having noticed that Melbourne are playing St Kilda twice in as many months (Round 11 - June 14, and Round 17 - July 26) - which, uh, okay? - I've realised I have no idea how the multiple match-ups are handled or decided. Is there a particular system or mechanism, or is it largely based on feelpinions/getting the most amount of people to games/ensuring exciting match-ups happen more often decided in some smoky backroom in Collingwood? Is there a minimum amount of rounds which can pass between teams facing each other again - and if not, have teams ever faced each other twice in a month (outside of finals) or even two weeks in a row?

I follow the Boston Bruins in the NHL and the Seattle Seahawks in the NFL (Green Bay Packers seemed the logical socialist choice, but they had also just won the superbowl the year I started following American Football, meaning I couldn't just jump on the bandwagon). Never ended up picking teams in the NBA or MLB.

i wonder how many people pick their teams in leagues they start following as teens/adults based directly on the team they started following as a kid. it isn't for most of my teams but in the case of a couple (Boston Bruins, FC Barca) it was a bit of an influence.
