CORELLIA - Jewel of the Empire

It is a time of peace. The GALACTIC EMPIRE has solidified its hold on the galaxy as most of the OLD REPUBLIC'S systems fall under its rule. Those few systems that do not swear allegiance, the HAPES CLUSTER among them, exist in a state of cold war with Imperial forces, with heavy restrictions on trade and travel.

In Corellia's capital of Coronet City, a small start-up transport company, STAR-OCEAN FREIGHT UNLIMITED, struggles to eek out a profit in the competitive galactic free market. An opportunity arises when a customer arrives, requesting transport of a container to HAPES PRIME, with no questions asked...

************************************

STAR-OCEAN FREIGHT UNLIMITED, Coronet City

The door sensor chimes quietly to herald the arrival of well-dressed middle aged man with a jacket draped over one arm, a fine black wooden cane in the other.

The 2-1B service droid that acts as the company's secretary looks up, "Greetings, sir, welcome to STAR-OCEAN FREIGHT UNLIMITED, where your goods are our priority. How may I be of service?"

"I would speak with your proprietor, droid. I am in need of your company's services for a most sensitive matter."

He is escorted into the main office, where he relays his needs. The transport of a small container, through Imperial space, through Lawless space, and into the Hapes Cluster, to Hapes Prime. For this service, he is offering the princely sum of 800,000 credits, enough to buy an entire fleet. His only conditions are that the package remained sealed and its contents be kept secret, with no questions asked.

He steeples his fingers, leaning forward on his cane to examine the Seawater Promise through the transparisteel windows, nodding his head slowly. "Yes, your ship is acceptable. What say you?"

ALIVE ENOUGH TO DIE

Mez Anzi
Wound: 11/11 Strain: 13/13 Soak: 2 Defense: -

Mez is sitting in her office, idly signing off on paperwork for the expensive repairs the Seawater Promise required after the last shipping debacle, when she is interrupted by the gentleman being escorted into the room. She sets her papers aside and listens quietly to the man's offer.

His speech is short and sweet, and Mez rocks back in her chair in response, staring at the man seated across from her. From his dress and the magnitude of his offer she assumes he is a noble of some sort, and from his mannerisms--she can't quite place it, but something is familiar to her. His insistence on no-questions-asked doesn't sit well with Mez, but she of all people understands the need for discretion.

After a few moments of awkward silence, Mez leans forward. "The Hapes Cluster is not the most welcoming sector in the galaxy, Mr. ...? Ah, but you didn't say, did you? And we will respect that, as well as your other wishes. However, in order to successfully dodge Imperial customs, keep safe your cargo from thieves, find a safe route through the Transitory Mists, and land on Hapes Prime with us and your cargo in one piece, we will need but two simple things from you: payment up front, and a point of contact when we arrive."

The latter of the two was of more interest in Mez. Most of what she knew of the Hapes Cluster was gleaned from rumors and myths, hardly reliable, but this man could have someone in the very heart of the sector, a potentially useful source of information.

Sebrano is sipping caf in the break room, idly browsing a datapad full of starship specifications while he waits for a new job to come in. When the richly dressed man walks in and begins to talk to the boss, the Dug perks up. Paying little attention to his datapad, he eavesdrops on the conversation between the man and Mez. Immediately after the man mentions the price he's willing to pay, he and Mez hear a shattering sound as Sebrano drops his mug in shock, and the disapproving tut-tuts of the protocol droid which begins to clean up the mess.

The normally quiet and composed Sebrano sheepishly grins towards the others, and then whispers so that the pair in the office can't hear. "Did you hear that? 800,000 credits. Why would anyone with that many credits come here? I'm not sure I like this.

Wounds: 12/12. Strain: 12/12. Soak: 2 (+2 energy/+1 non-energy). Defense: 0

The doctor makes a small sound of displeasure as a single slow-motion drop of Sebrano's caf seems to rises up into the air after its brief meeting with the ground and then land neatly on the wrist of his med-coat. It's the kind of sigh that says, "What have I done to deserve such a harsh and terrible life?" Vinters watches the interaction from the break room with the Dug, calmly looking over the prospective client. "Nobility, do you think? New money dresses in jewels and gaudy flashes, something that says they want to be seen. Old money dresses like that, saying they expect to be seen." Of the two, old money was suitably more dangerous.

The doctor takes out a pad of his own and types out a quick series of notes, outlining the deal as Sebrano mentioned it. "On the bright side, taking into account fuel costs and the company's cut, that's still over a hundred grand each, right? Not bad for a single trip."

Managed to type this out real quick on my phone before work. I'll definitely edit in my picture/stats/etc in six hours or so when I'm home.

The sound of the dropping mug brought Lak's attention back into the room, and he locked the display on his datapad before taking in the scene before him. A well-dressed human, obviously someone who believed himself to be important, was speaking with the boss, and from the doc's barely-concealed words he figured that there was a big payday involved. He looked down at the plate of "meat" that the bulk catering company had supplied them, then back up to the human. If he was offering them big creds, it would sure as hell be worth it. Besides, he hadn't sent any creds back to his mother and siblings for a few months now, hopefully Dad could keep them in the black, but a big payday from Lak would no doubt be very helpful.

He unlocked his datapad and resumed his typing, trusting the boss to make the right call, either way.

Standing in it's usual resting spot outside of Mez's office, the loader droids torso swivels at the caf mugs sudden crash. It's optics emit a sudden whir as they adjust to take in the scene, before the rather large and imposing droid took a menacing few steps forwards towards the Dug... and bent down to claim the fragments of mug. It brushes past the protocol droid, ignoring the startled exclamation of annoyance it emits, and places the fragments in a rubbish bin, before reaching into a cupboard to claim another mug that it then places precisely seven centimeters from the edge of the counter, before moving back towards it's resting spot. It pauses in front of Mez's doorway just long enough to utter "Do not forget, dimensions, mass and any atmospheric requirements need to be obtained as well" in the deadpan tone of a droid with only the most basic vocal equipment, before taking it's position again.

While I cannot offer you payment in full up front for this privacy, I can offer you 30% of the total sum now, with the remaining 70% at time of delivery. You understand, of course, the need to part out the payment," He nods with a thin smile. "As for a point of contact, you are to provide the encrypted travel clearance code contained on this data disk," he produces a small card form under his jacket, "when you are invariably intercepted by the Consortium Navy. The code contains all the necessary legal documentation for your passage through Hapan space, though do not be surprised if the Consortium Navy escorts you to your destination... they are, after all, very suspicious of outsiders, particularly..." he looks the Arcona up and down, "those as interesting as yourself and your crew. Your destination lies in Ta'a Chume'Dan - a small private hangar. Its coordinates are also on the data disk. Your point of contact is a Mr For'sithe, his holo is also on the data disk so you can confirm his identity prior to delivery of my goods. Does that meet criteria? Once given his portion of the pre-payment, Vinters taps out a number of orders on his datapad and nods to everyone. "I'll return shortly." The doctor heads to his cabin and removes his overcoat, putting on a jacket in its place, and heads out. He returns a few hours later with a small duffel full of recent purchases. He spends maybe an hour unpacking them in his bunk, disposing of all packaging by using the atomizer, and eventually returns to the crew in the common quarters. "I'm ready to leave." He begins to take a step toward his MedLab but then stops and turns back around, asking Mez, "I've been told that in the event of an encounter with brigands, provided there are no injured to attend, I'm to, and I'm quoting here, "Harness my Echani heritage and gun those dreks to atoms." Which gun should I head to? Dorsal or ventral?"

Out of his 2k, Vinters is purchasing:

4x 12 Defender hold-out blasters
4x Model 58 Concealment Holster
6x Extra Reload for the Model 77.
2x Extra Reload for the SmartTranq system.

I have 615 left, which I imagine will be spent in Hapes. I stuck to CharGen rarity in terms of availability. Also, I realize this guy doesn't have a Catch Vest like most of my characters, he has armored clothing, so I've editing my stats above.

ALIVE ENOUGH TO DIE

Mez Anzi
Wound: 11/11 Strain: 13/13 Soak: 2 Defense: -

Mez muses silently to herself when her client addresses her as "Captain Anzi". How quaint. She then claps her hands together, denoting an end to their short negotiation. "Well, Mr. Djo'nsohn, we find your offer most intriguing. Though we do not often deal so clandestinely, the opportunity to see a part of the galaxy that few others do is impossible to pass up. We find this all quite agreeable." She quietly slips the data disk into a small pocket inside her coat, planning to sift through its contents later.

"Our crew will find the extra resources you have provided invaluable in protecting your... very precious cargo. You can rest assured it will be seen to its destination quickly and quietly. Now, if you'll excuse us, we must begin our preparations. Our secretary droid will see you out the way you came in." Mez leans back in her chair comfortably, motioning towards the door. "Good health to you and yours, Mr. Djo'nhson."

After the client has left, she flicks on the office intercom and instructs the crew to prepare for the haul. She then picks up her datapad, transfers the crew's share of the up-front payment to their accounts, and takes some time to put in an order for some additional tools and some high-quality Corellian whiskey--a bottle for her crew and a few more for bribes. After all, if these Hapans really are as wealthy and secluded as the rumors suggest, they would no doubt appreciate an offer of very exclusive libations and perhaps turn a blind eye in return.

Mez set aside 590 credits for herself, and picked up the following:

1x Model 58 Concealment Holster
1x Collar Amp
5x Whyren's Reserve Corellian Whiskey

After making her purchases, Mez reaches into her coat and pulls out the data disk Mr. Djo'nsohn provided to her and slides it into her datapad, copying the technical requirements for the cargo's transport onto a spare disk. She stows away the original in her coat and moves into the break room. "Lita, here's the cargo information you required. If you would be so kind, please place it in whichever cargo bay you feel is appropriate for 'proper flow'." She gives the droid a wink.

Vinters's question draws her back to more serious matters. "Hopefully it won't come to that, doctor, but should anything go awry we want you closer to the crew. Take the dorsal gun."

I appreciate that you don't ask about my past much, but I think you can probably guess that I have some experience in transporting valuable cargo. The kind of cargo that draws heat." Sebrano looks a little uncomfortable at admitting even that. "I have no idea what this client wants us to transport, but it's in our best interest if we keep it as secret as possible. I think it would be best if we had some kind of hidden compartment installed on our ship where we could hide this mysterious container. And then, as a cover, we buy a bunch of legitimate trade goods, food and medicine, stuff like that, and stick those in our cargo hold. Anyone who inspects our ship will, hopefully, have no idea what we're really transporting."

"I know you like to keep things as above-board as possible, and I get that, but the sums of money involved here could get us into some serious trouble if we don't take precautions."

As the crew busies itself getting the Seawater Promise ready, Vinters struggles to find any of his old contacts to try and drum up some faux cargo, but he's either drawing blanks or they're ignoring him. Unable to track down any hard leads, he does manage to com across an almanac of Hapes Cluster flora and fauna, though it predates the Empire and may be out of date. According to the almanac, the Hapes Cluster is home to an extremely large variety of galactic plant life, collected over millenia, however, at least at the time of printing, Alderaanian flora were particularly prized as Alderaan did not export its plant life much at that period of time.

Lak, meanwhile, taxes his memory to remember what he can about the Outer Rim and the Hapes Cluster... only to remember that the Hapes Cluster is in the Mid-Rim, on the border of the Core, and nowhere near the Outer Rim. What he could remember of his father's smuggling advice, however, was that the major trade routes are usually more heavily patrolled, and most smugglers tend to take complex back routes or (dangerously) forge their own routes, usually taking a serpentine or non-linear path so that Imperial patrol vessels couldn't track their jump vectors.

Lita, meanwhile, readies the ship.

On the data disk, Mez finds an image of For'sithe:

A handsome human specimen, though if the rumors about the Hapans are true, this isn't that surprising.

Mez also finds the encrypted file which undoubtedly was their Hapan travel documents. Unfortunately, he's unable to make any headway into decrypting the file, but it does seem doable, though it will clearly take quite a bit of time as the encryption is military grade, which isn't that surprising for an insular group like the Consortium. While he cannot deduce the nature of the encrypted file, he is able to get a glimpse at its size, and it's a reasonably large file... either the Hapans employ multiple layers of security, not unlike the Empire, or the documents themselves are numerous and/or elaborate, it's hard to say with so little to work with.

The final file one the data disk is a simple text file with an Arabesh code phrase, "Echo Echo Nova Bravo Three Eight Seven Four." Using this code to access the encrypted file does nothing, despite the code file being attached to the encrypted data.

As the night wears on, the task of determining the Seawater Promise's route becomes top priority. While no star charts of the Hapes Cluster itself are readily available, and any stellar cartography outlets long since closed for the night, the crew has to make do with the standard Republic charts that are relatively up to date, at least within the last decade.

Going off the mapped paths will depend on how many systems and such are in the way, and could range from Hard (3D) to Insanely Difficult (6D) depending on what you're trying to do. Jumping directly to the Hapes Cluster would be a 6D+ roll. I highly recommend copying the map image and drawing on it to plan out a route, rather than explaining it. After much deliberation late into the evening, it's decided that regardless of route, the Seawater Promise's first destination would be Bellassa. Calling up the local CEC parts supplier, Mez arranges for a new hyperdrive unit to be delivered in the morning using the cash advance from Djo'nsohn. Lak and Lita would have their work cut out for them tomorrow, installing both the hyperdrive and some sort of smuggling compartment to keep their package safe.

The plan settled, the crew retires to wherever it is they go at night.

************************************

The next morning, the first person to arrive at the hangar finds a lone man dressed not too dissimilarly from Djo'nsohn, waiting patiently by the locked doors.

"Ah, there you are... Mr Djo'nsohn has put his utmost faith in your success in this delivery, I trust you have all your arrangements in order, yes?" He takes out a small comm stick and speaks into it, "One of them is here, you can bring it over."

A few minutes later a small flatbed hovertruck arrives with a large 3m x 2m x 1m container, draped under a dark grey tarp. The two drivers quickly move the truck into the hangar and make haste in unveiling and unloading a large container next to the Promise's loading ramp.

From outward appearances, the box seems airtight, with a simple keypad embedded in one side, the display above it currently off. The two men wait for their tip, which the well-dressed courier obliges them with.

Before they or the man can make their departure, another delivery truck arrives, this one bearing a large cargo container with CEC markings on it. "Who's gonna sign for this hyperdrive unit?" the Gran deliveryman asks as he hops out of the idling hovertruck, glancing from the well-dressed man to the other delivery men, to whoever arrived early enough to witness this exchange. His eye stalks finally settle on the sealed container briefly before looking at everyone gathered with a sweeping gesture of his datapad with a signature prompt on its screen, "Well?"

The well-dressed man puts up only the thinnest of attempts to veil his annoyance at the interruption in the current transaction. "... At any rate, I trust Our mutual friend gave you all the information you needed for this delivery, so good luck on your journey, I trust our faith in your services has not been misguided." He quickly excuses himself and as if on cue, a black hovercar with tinted viewpanels drops down out of the overhead traffic, accepts its new passenger, and shoots off into the golden Corellian sky.

The Gran's eye stalks briefly follow the man out before turning back to the remaining people, "Well? Look, I got other deliveries to make."

************************************

[[It will take at least 1 standard galactic day to install the new Hyperdrive as well as build a suitable smuggling compartment, assuming Lak and Lita work together on it. Any moving equipment or tools you would need you already have in the hangar, For the Hypedrive it will be a matter of a Brawn to unpack the unit safely, plus at the least a Mechanics roll to install it. For the Smuggling Compartment, whoever wants to be involved in that will have to reorganize the ship and make both a Mechanics and a Stealth roll to determine how well made and how inconspicuous the compartment can be. Only 2 people can work on that project so decide who it will be.

The rolls can be done using assistance rules, difficulty to install that particular hyperdrive is 3D+1S, and you need 10 successes to install it properly. Every roll will account for 4 hours of time. For every 10 Advantage or Threat, they will trigger some sort of modifier to the installation of the drive. For the smuggling compartment, it will be the same rules except 5 and 5 for your thresholds, same amount of time.

Everyone else not working on the ship or guarding your new cargo can do whatever else they need to do on Corellia before they head out.]]

Moments later, the cargo droid has the new hyperdrive box in one arm and the package in the other, carrying both of the boxes into one of the yawning open cargo bays of the Seawater Promise.

Within a few minutes, the secret package finds itself stowed under Mez's bed, while the new hyperdrive sits unboxed next to the hyperdrive access, with Lita standing nearby and seemingly glaring at it. The box it came in is, oddly, disassembled and laying on the floor of the ships small kitchen.

"Well then," the doctor says as parts start to be delivered. "Time to make myself useful, no?" With a quick stop by the medbay to drop off his doctor's coat, Vinters then stops by his own room to grab a different jacket, putting it on and rolling up his sleeves as he walks to to the rearmost starboard cargo hold. To anyone watching it might come across as a bit odd, since he walks through the hold five or six times, simply looking around. From one end to the other, from one door to the other, he just walks through. Eventually he decides on a spot and removes a multitool from the wall that will allow him to pry open the floor planks. He speaks to whoever has accompanied him. "There's a clear path through this hold. Four of them. If we place this right, it should be nearly impossible to find naturally. You've just got to put it in a place people walk instead of where people store things.. A few quick rail installations and a magnetic lock and we'll be able to make getting in and keeping others out even easier." As he works, Vinters somehow manages to slice open one of his fingers and curses as he begins walking back to the medbay for a quick bandage.

Lita brought him the hyperdrive in record time, his servos whirring and straining under the weight of the new engine, and Lak instinctively winced. He knew the droid's old metal could take it, but he couldn't help but be worried about the effect it was having on the droid's ancient joints. However, Lak had a job to do, and he threw himself into it with his customary abandon, having spent the last few hours stripping the old drive out and clearing off the mounting.

Getting out his custom tools, he thanked Lita and hurred it out of the engine room, he wanted peace and quiet while he worked, connecting wires and cables and pipes whilst thinking to himself. He spent his time wisely, making sure that he put extra effort into leaving bundles of interconnected parts open and available so he could get at them easily in the future. He had no doubt that, as ship's engineer, this trip would be anything but quiet...

Mez shifts lazily as the droid shoves the package under her bed. "Mmm, morning already, pateesa? Though we suppose "morning" doesn't mean the same thing to you, eh? Thank you for meeting our client and taking care of things."

After rolling out of bed, taking care to lock the door to her room behind her, Mez heads to the kitchen for her first caf of the day. Sipping it quietly, she watches Vinters move into the cargo bay with purpose and follows him in. As he makes his assessment of the best location for a hidden compartment, Mez raises an eyebrow-scale. 'You seem to be oddly familiar with misdirection, doctor,' she thinks to herself.

A sudden clang and a grunt pulls Mez from her musing and Vinters walks past her, muttering curses under his breath and clutching a bloody finger. She moves over to his work area and looks it over.

"But it looks like you're not much of a handyman, forgetting to take these bolts out before trying to rip up our ship." Mez sets down her caf, picks up the multi-tool, and gives it a shot.

Vinters returns not long thereafter, the ring finger of his left hand wearing a synthskin wrapping that, unfortunately, does not match his skin color. Where he got Soccoran synthskin is anyone's guess, but the skin tone definitely does not match. "Apologies. I fear I'm better operating on people than machines. Speaking of, I'd like to get a nurse soon, should we come across the funds. An upgraded MEV-series should work nicely," he says, referencing a droid that is at once both a medical droid and a hover-gurney, useful to getting the injured where the need to be. When he first returns, he doesn't immediately help with the construction of the smuggling compartment, but instead begins cleaning up the blood he has spilled on the ground, making sure to get it all out of the cracks in the plating. Can't leave that there, as it's a surefire way to detect that something isn't quite right in that area.

"Let's try this again, shall we?" he says to Mez, gladly accepting her assistance where he can, and providing his own where she might need it. As he works he asks, "Why start the sentence with 'but'? That's a conjunction, indicating something came before, but it's the first thing I heard you say once you set down your caf." Regardless of his question, once the doctor sets his mind to building the compartment properly (which to him means meticulously installing the gas-pressured rails and magnetic lock such they are utterly invisible from above the compartment) he seems to come into his own and begins to quickly get the hang of things.

I figure I'll assist Mez with her mechanics checks and she can assist me with Stealth checks.

Hoo boy. Suppose I'll use some of those successes to shave some time off of the ordeal.

"We're not even sure we can find the compartment again and we just finished building it! Fine work, doctor. We hope we didn't get in the way too much." Mez brushes her hands off and sets her multi-tool back on the wall.

She picks up her long-forgotten cup of caf, takes a sip, and scrunches up her face. "Ugh, it's gone cold. Think some grease fell in it, too. We'll be putting another pot on of you'd like to share, we have a bit of time to kill before Lak and Lita are finished."

Never found a taste for it as my peers did. Doctors Without Orbits, unfortunately, teaches you little except how to get by on low funding and no supplies in hostile territories full of volatile diseases. Eventually, everyone smuggles medicine of some kind." He looks away as he speaks, his eyes distant, "It's upkeep the law or save the lives. It's never a hard choice. "

He nods to Mez as she suggests a cup of caf, pausing to stop by the refresher to thoroughly wash his hands. When it comes time to drink it, he takes his with an incredible amount of creme and nutrisweetener. He sits at the center table, holding his datapad and typing upon it as quickly as he can while missing the help of one of his fingers. "Bellassa is our first stop tomorrow, yes? Sebrano has little to offer in the way of knowledge about hyperdrive installation. Sebrano planned to help with the location of the smuggling compartment, but finds to his surprise that the others have found a suitably inconspicuous location for it. With nothing left for him to do on the ship, he once again sets off into the Corellian underworld, this time looking for someone with knowledge of hyperspace shortcuts between Corellia. Smugglers don't usually like to give up their secret shortcuts, but Sebrano is willing to spend some credits to loosen some tongues.

After some struggling, Mez and Vinters manage to clear away a large enough area for the large container in the port forward cargo bay, however it will be a tight fit and thus very difficult to move the container out of the compartment on short notice, once it's been placed. Unfortunately, due to the sheer size of the container, a subtle fit wasn't in the cards, and while the floor paneling covers the container well enough and would shield it from a cursory glance, when you walk over the right side of the panel it shifts slightly and makes a clicking noise. Hopefully no one would examine that section of the hold very closely... or walk through it.

A few rounds of drinks and slapping the right backs (with your feet or no) can do wonders on The Row, and Sebrano manages to come across an aging Selonian rancher that apparently regularly makes trips back and forth from Bellassa, as the rich agricultural world is lush with fauna suitable for animal husbandry. A bottle of Whyren's Reserve and several plates of ryshcate later, and the Selonian manages to spill her secrets, outlining a rather specific route out past Tralus, opposite Centerpoint at this time of year. Having come home and (after sobering up a little) checking the calculations, Sebrano is positive that not only will the route work, but it might even shave a good 4 hours off the trip, making the total transit time to Bellassa little more than 8 hours. Not bad for a mere 300 credits. What luck!

[[You would get 2 boosts on your Astrogation roll to Bellassa, but the roll is rather moot, so we'll just say that Sebrano is more than capable enough to use the info to plot a successful course to the agriworld.]]

************************************

With Corel hanging low in the evening sky, the ship is finally ready for departure. Sebrano expertly lifts the lumbering cargo vessel up and out of the dock and makes for orbit. After a short jump to the edge of the system with the coordinates given to him by the Selonian, course is laid for Bellassa, one of the main agricultural worlds of the Core. The Hyperspace journey will take a mere 8 hours, making it morning on Corellia time, though the local time on Bellassa is just after noon. The Seawater Promise emerges from hyperspace without incident, the green orb of Bellassa hanging off to starboard.

[[The journey will work like this... during the actual jumps, you can RP and discuss stuff ICly with posts, if you want, for flavor. The main thing will be any actions you choose to do, like maybe look up research or field strip your weapons for some possible benefits down the line, etc. Those are all fair game. You also need to decide what to do now that you're in Bellassa, having the knowledge of your current Hyperspace capabilities and the somewhat meager protection afforded by your makeshift smuggler compartment. Do you land or scan or jump? That kinda thing. Where to next?]]

EDIT: [[Also, if you guys want it in the design that some of those extra crew cabins are repurposed or whatever, just say so. As it stands now you have more living quarters than you do living crew, by about double. I assumed that Mez would have the Pilot's quarters (biggest in the ship) and Sebrano would have the copilot's on the other side.]]

After giving the medbay and his own cabin a final once-over before launch, Vinters begins walking around the ship in a circuitous figure-8 pattern while taping on his datapad or sipping at a cup of caf. He loops through the common area, around the walkways of both the port and starboard cargo bays, and back. It becomes fairly obvious that he's either somewhat bored or somewhat uncomfortable on starships, likely a bit of both. It's impossible to get a proper Holonet signal from hyperspace, but given the small amount of time he has in Bellassa's atmosphere before the ship jumps again, he begins typing at a rapid pace while searching the classifieds for shipping offers. He lists Alderaan as a starting point, with Commenor, Zeltros, Ambria, and Onderon as possible off-loading junctures. Surprisingly, he finds a small list, which he brings to the crew's attention.

PERSONNEL TRANSPORT NEEDED
Galactic Ranger Ting'uz Chavez in need of transport for himself and two fugitives to Onderon. Will require secured and isolated housing for prisoners, armed guards not necessary but will be preferred. Expediency also preferred. Locked weapons cabinet with access given to Ting'uz Chavez required, as per standard Galactic Ranger contract. 50,000 credits for completed contract, negotiable on contingency of private security. Ranger Chavez can be reached at the Alderaanian Royal Palace.

PERSONNEL TRANSPORT NEEDED

Vinters oddly finds that no matter what search filters he uses, the second listing always shows up somewhere. This would not be surprising to Mez or Sebrano, as Imperial contract listings generally end up going to everyone, no matter what. Maybe we could even skim a few off, say they died in transit, and sell them to the Hapans." He taps a few times to bring up information about the Galactic Rangers and says, "Having another gun aboard won't be bad. We have the room for it. We set the two of them up in the spare rooms, force the lock on one of them, and that's a pretty good cell for a prisoner. Or even just lock the guy in one of the empty cargo holds. As far as the Imperials, however, there's no guarantee they won't order us to take another load the second we drop off the walkers at Onderon. Too risky, and it messes with too many plans. After a moment, she continues. "Lita's suggestion sounds reasonable to us. An Imperial trade license would likely engender more trust from anyone we take jobs from, especially those entrenched in the law like the ranger, and may allow us to negotiate additional pay. It would also make it much easier to use Onderon as a launching point into the Hapes Cluster. Given the new speed of our ship (many thanks for that, Lak), we would have plenty of time for the trip from Balmorra to Alderaan, and enough to pick up the stalker bird and ranger contracts.

Should the Empire try to commandeer our ship for additional hauls after we finish the first job, we'll just have to conveniently slip away before they can use us. Plus, with two hundred birds sitting in our holds, I doubt any fussy Imperials would want to get anywhere near us."
