As someone said in the previous thread, most of these queens look like dollar store versions of seasons past queens. Based on the previews, there is definitely some aping of Raja and Sharon Needles going on.

I don't see Tempest (too dated), Jasmine (too sloppy), Trixie (Michelle is going to go to town on her makeup), or Max (too one note) lasting very long. We'll see though. For the first time in a few seasons I haven't followed all the internet sleuthing showing off what these queens can really do, it's just my own speculation from the promo videos and the first 10 minutes of the first episode.

So, I'm watching the episode again for a second time after work, and wow. Jasmine is definitely strong competition for the most unpolished queen to ever be on the show. It's great that she has such a positive attitude, because wow, everything else about her is just a mess.

Also, from Untucked, I don't know if I believe Pearl when she is shocked that the other queens find her cold. But if it's the truth, I find it to be kind of charming, although I could just be charmed by those "bedroom eyes" as she put it.

I suspect that Katya is already doing videos for World of Wonder means that she is going to be sticking around for a bit, or at least making a lasting impression. Here's to hoping that since Jasmine has done nothing but releasing a transphobic video followed up by a deletion of said video and then an apology video means that she is not for long.

She naturally caught a lot of heat for this, so she deleted it, and made an apology tweet. Here's one link on reddit about it. I've been trying to figure her out, because she just seems so off. It's so funny comparing the thoughts of all you guys in this thread, with those over at Reddit. Aside from the transphobia controversy (of which many of them are just saying 'gently caress the haters'), they are just living for Jasmine. They're saying they love her positive attitude, which I find hard to see after that latest Untucked where she just came out as so just awful. I made a comment about how she seemed so unpolished, and got massively downvoted. I just don't get it. Edit: Also, I'm really loving Trixie, Ginger, and Katya. I think they'll go far. I suspect Max will trip up on the Match Game, given that he isn't even very good at his own character of the old Hollywood starlet. And it's only a matter of time before Kandy Ho goes. Miss Fame needs to snap out of it, she could go far if she would just loosen up. Nihonniboku fucked around with this message at 00:56 on Mar 11, 2015 |

It sounds like Ru tries to starve her queens to make everybody hungry and ornery, for the drama. Other queens in the past have complained about the pathetic excuses for food they were given. Sharon is a vegetarian, and said she ate nothing but mayonnaise sandwiches the whole time she was there because the crew simply would not give her anything vegetarian. So, filling a suitcase with food was probably the one smart thing that Jasmine did this season. Good riddance such a nasty, bitter queen was sent home packing. When it was revealed in Untucked that she was seriously planning on just standing there and refusing to lip sync before Kandy talked her out of it, she just lost any ounce of pity or respect that I had left for her, of which there was very little to begin with.

They dressed up as old women and did a dance off to determine who would lead the teams: Kennedy and Max. Max's team performed Romy and Juliet. Kennedy's did Macbitch. Pearl has never heard of Macbeth. Max's team did fairly well. Jayden had a breakdown, but Max talked her through it and pulled it off. Kennedy's team was a disaster because they didn't practice. Kennedy was also trying to take out Violet by giving her the part of the ghetto queen, but that backfired when Jasmine couldn't pull off bitchy in the title role of Macbitch. Turns out Jasmine couldn't pull off ghetto either. Pearl came off as cold and flat, surprise, surprise. During this insanity, Ru let loose on the queens, screaming at them to pull their poo poo together. For the runway, the queens wore ballgowns and beards. Jasmine for some reason refused to wear a beard claiming she would get acne and would have to go to the hospital. She painted one on instead. It looked terrible, although her dress was pretty sick. When Jasmine and Violet were giving excuses for their performances, Ru lost it on them again and told them she was sick of their excuses. Max won, deservedly. She was hilarious in the challenge, and her bearded look was great. Kennedy and Jasmine lip synced, and Jasmine was sent packing. Did she think the show was just going to be lip synching and being sour as gently caress and nothing that she'd struggle at? It's especially ridiculous because Jaidynn had a sudden freakout in the middle of their performance and she pulled her poo poo together really quick; Jasmine just took one look at something vaguely out of her comfort zone and just gave up so she could pretend like she was going out with honor or some poo poo. Yea, it reeked of Magnolia Crawford last season, who after getting eliminated "first", claimed she never wanted to be on the show in the first place.

I can see that for the first season or two, maybe, but how can anyone who's seen a single season of Drag Race still entertain the notion that looking good is going to be enough to win? Every season starts with three or four queens who seem to think they look so good that they don't have to actually do anything well, and they just drop like flies. Even stranger are the queens who can't act tend to really hate on those who can, and who lately have inevitably gone on to win the whole thing.

On the latest episode of Gayest of All Time with Jonny McGovern (formerly Gay Pimpin' with Jonny McGovern), they were discussing RuPaul's Drag Race, and two of their regulars have strong connections with the show. First is Lady Red, a drag queen who is actually drag cousins (I'm guessing their drag mothers were drag sisters) with Jasmine Masters. When Jonny asked Lady Red if she was her favorite, she paused, and replied very diplomatically, "I am glad that she is on the show." Beyond that, she commented that Jasmine is a pro at throwing shade, something that I think we can all attest to. Todd Masterson, a comedian, actually worked on the show. It sounds like he helped design the challenges, and maybe even helps write the jokes. He said they wanted the show to feel very fresh, so that's why they got an all new pit crew, why Untucked looks so different, and why they didn't do a photoshoot as the first challenge this season. They were originally going to have an actual drag ball with a live studio audience, but they nixed that last second because they were afraid of spoilers getting out of who was actually on the show. When asked who his favorite queen was, he refused to comment because he felt that would give away that they were going to be on the show for a while. Also, if it wasn't obvious, they knew they wanted to do a stewardess challenge, but weren't sure how to do it until they saw that Virgin Airlines inflight safety video, and they took their inspiration from that.

In previous seasons there were always a few obvious duds who were definitely going home the first couple episodes. Then a several middle of the pack girls, and then one or two absolute standouts. Really, since season 3, pretty much every season the ultimate winner was getting a winner's edit the entire season. Raja, Sharon Needles, Jinx Monsoon, Bianca del Rio, I don't think any of us had any doubt that any of them were at the very least for sure going to be in the final three. But this season, I have no clue. Maybe Ginger? But even she isn't that much of a standout compared to the winners of seasons past.

With Violet, it's a combination of: 1) her constant resting bitch face 2) she has made little to no effort to make friends 3) she is the fishiest and youngest queen, so the others are ganging up on her a bit. She definitely is no PhiPhi or Roxxy, the closest to that this season would be Jasmine, Kennedy and Ginger, but even they're no where near the level of PhiPhi or Roxxy. Really, just like how this season has no real standout queens, they also have no real standout drama, so the producers are milking this Violet hate as hard as they can.

Pearl - surprisingly hilarious as Big Ang. Kennedy - I wanted to hate her performance as Lil' Richard because she is doing the SNATCH Game as a man, and I'm tired of her poo poo in general, but she wasn't half bad! Ginger - Adequate performance as Adele. She reused some of the same jokes that Stacey Lane Matthews and Latrice Royale used in Snatch Game as other big girls. Katya - Officially my queen to win it all! Jaidynn - Raven Symone could have been funny, but meh. I was too old to ever watch That's So Raven, and she focused on that era of Miss Symone. Violet - Adequate last minute choice to do Alyssa Edwards. I don't really know how I feel about the queens impersonating queens from previous seasons. Max & Miss Fame - Embarrassingly bad as Sharon Needles and Donatella Versace respectively. Nihonniboku fucked around with this message at 02:40 on Apr 14, 2015 |

While it's shady it's just some weird southern thing where they feel like they have to diffuse the situation with kindness even if it isn't true. I've never understood it either, but I can see why people would get so turned off by it. Yeah, I'm from Detroit, and moved to Washington, DC about 6 years ago. While a lot of southerners would cut you for calling DC the south, to me, it's the south. People say y'all here. This sort of behavior really threw me for a loop when I first moved here. Everybody has a huge smile plastered on their face when they first meet you, feed you endless compliments, and talk about how you MUST get together soon. It took me a while to figure out when people were being genuine. Back in Michigan, you don't compliment someone unless you truly mean it. And the more time I spent here, the more I noticed these southerners bad mouthing everybody the second they walked away. I have a lot of great friends now, but I know to take things with a grain of salt more often than I'm inclined to.

I've said it before, but I really think there is a chance that Ru is starting to scrape the bottom of the barrel for drag talent in this country. It's a niche industry. Just how many undiscovered queens are still waiting out there that they could cast a whole new season AND have clear standout talent? Ru might need to wait a few years for the talent pool to fill up again. As for why Kennedy won over Katya - Katya's outfit was better, Katya's lipsync was better, Katya's performance overall all season has been better. Again, I've said it before, Ru loves a ghetto queen, and Kennedy has been delivering that all season. Shangela, Coco Montrese, we've seen it before, queens lasting around for far longer than they should because a ghetto queen just makes Ru lose her absolute poo poo. It's becoming pretty clear why the season was so delayed in its airing. It was discussed a lot that it was possibly due to Michelle Visage being on Celebrity Big Brother UK, but that never made sense to me. It's not like she has been hitting the talk show circuit to hype it up. It's because this is a lackluster season, and Ru and World of Wonder were struggling to edit the season into something worth watching.
