I really want to see a horror movie where they make a serious effort to kill the monster. Shoot the monster in the pool? Great. Now start throwing appliances in until the power goes out. I liked it. Good atmosphere. They didn't go for cheap scares.

Neumonic posted:I liked Oculus. The gore was funny and got a few good cringes out of me, the ghosts were creepy and the wide shot with all of them looked awesome in the theater. I liked both. I also liked It Follows. Atmospheric horror just works for me. I can totally understand how someone wouldn't like atmospheric horror though.

dantheman650 posted:Why would Hugh go to a movie theater? That seems like a pretty horrible place to be while being followed by It. Dark, crowded, no way out, and focused on a movie instead of paying attention. I assume she was super traumatized from the last time she was in the pool and no longer wanted to swim.

Which also explains why he made sure to show her the monster. The longer the person you passed it on to lives, the better for you. I think I'd go have sex with someone really active in the porn industry. Let that thing get some cardio for awhile.

The soundtrack was one of my favorite parts, but I *really* like ambient music so I get how off-putting it could be to folks who don't.

Alan Smithee posted:I don't think it necessarily popped out of nowhere, if anything I felt they tended to be consistent about how long it took to travel since we dont really get much frame of reference distance wise. It did seem rather convenient it was far away when she was asleep or out cold, and they definitely could have heightened tension by having it show up in some really inopportune situations. But to their credit it never zips from behind you -> in front of you like your typical horror movie monster. It's very much a thing that gets you because of attrition and catches you slippin That might be one reason I liked it so much. It's like an early Romero zombie movie. It's not the immediate zombies that make for such a depressing, creepy atmosphere, it's their inevitability.

It would be interesting if a serial killer sought out the infection.
