It's a pretty big bummer for a the majority of pro support to go away. I understand why the cost / profit ratio probably isn't worthwhile for HMX, at the same time RB3 seemed to be a serious push towards getting people to make the jump to real music. It's disappointing to see it resigned to just being a party game again. It doesn't affect me too much as a drummer, but that's just a lucky accident regarding their charting process.

There's also the dilemma of platform. I really have zero interest in a One, but it's the only option. I'd actually wouldn't mind reinvesting if it was on the PC -and I'm saying that as somebody with $1000+ invested - just to futureproof it against all the hangups with game consoles.

I'm definitely interested but I also feel pretty wary making a $500 - $800 investment all over again unless there's some fantastic new features involved.

Pro guitar was a great idea, but terrible execution due to the need for a rare, expensive pro guitar or a 150 button monstrosity that doesn't function as a real guitar. Rocksmith has already solved the issue and I'd prefer HMX stick to the core of what they do well than get caught up in feature bloat.

Having that kind of functionality in social game is a fundamentally different thing. I understand that they can't support it in the foreseeable future, but at the same time HMX hopefully will be finding ways to push the game forward.

Why? PC gaming and Steam is doing a lot to erode the need for a specialized gaming box.

Oh my god, yes. Stupidest decision they ever made, the way money worked in RB2 was fine! Why just drop it entirely?! Why lock loving shirts behind ownership, and mastery, of expensive and rare instruments!?! What's the point!?!?

It certainly has been weird getting achievements like, four years in here and finally unlocking this or that.

Does anybody have a better suggestion than Party Buffalo for doing batches of songs onto a single USB? I've been trying to rebuild my collection after another USB stick crapped out and Party Buffalo keeps crashing and corrupting songs, and as far as I can tell Explorer USB doesn't handle batches.

No idea why they didn't make all RB2+ instruments generic USB devices that operate independently from controllers.

Because the specific functions of a controller like the guide button and whatnot and having it work to the standards imposed by the console make that impossible, AFAIK, unless they shipped them with a converter box, which may have gotten them the hairy eyeball from console makers. It's a huge pain, I can think of multi-console controllers, but they're almost always aftermarket devices for specialist markets like fighting sticks and DDR pads from the PS2 / Xbox era. I don't know how viable that would be for a third-party manufacturer to make them, but I'd certainly like to see them.

There was less of a need for that sort of thing in general because the 360 version was so dominant, but it's looking like things might be much more complicated now.

I would certainly be willing to pay a sizable chunk of money to be able to re-sign my content on a PS4 as opposed to a One, if it meant I wasn't paying for it again entirely. Like, 50 cents per original track purchase or so. It probably would never happen, but my wallet's out if Sony should happen to want a huge wad of bills. Of course, I imagine Microsoft might have something to say about that...

For some reason I'm running into the 256 song bug with Horizon too. Though it seems to have installed them all initially, whenever the drive is reexamined (by reloading Horizon or through the Xbox itself), it only shows the first 256. Right now a workaround of installing through USBXTAF seemingly got me over the hump but we'll see. At this rate I'm tempted to just learn C3 CON Tools, getting this to work with the existing drive tools has been a tremendous headache.

Edit: though the tracks from USBXTAF show, Horizon is refusing to install over 258 songs. It goes through the process and tells me they're installed and shows them, but any reexamination of the drive doesn't display them. They seem to have taken up more space... but don't actually work, like it's installed them to the wrong location, perhaps, or installed them incorrectly.

What happens if you now go back to Party Buffalo?

I'm less inclined to mess around with Party Buffalo after what amounts to it seemingly corrupting files, I admit, and am just inclined to wipe the stick anyway and start over since the size and the tracks on there aren't matching up. I just created my first couple packs with C3 Con Tools and will probably be sorting it all out that way for now, I need to do that sooner or later anyway, and that'll let me more easily troubleshoot if I have any more issues as I go.

Was going to say to not be afraid, since C3 CON Tools is designed to be user friendly and straightforward. I hope people aren't having to /learn/ to use it. But I see you're already on it.

There's a little bit of a learning curve, but overall it's been pretty simple, the biggest hurdle is just going through the mammoth task of reorganizing it all.

I just want more dorky attract screens and cutscenes featuring one's custom band. The cutscenes were great and dumb and I just want more of them*.

I've found Party Buffalo to be fine if you use a separate USB stick to "ferry" the injected content to the 360, then use the 360 itself to move the content to a "destination" storage device that never leaves the console. That way you're never using Party Buffalo (or any injection software) where the stuff actually lives and the risk of corruption is minimal.

Yeah, this seems like it's the key solution. I started with a fresh stick and it already started corrupting files once my # of compiled packs started hitting double digits, but switching stuff around and keeping one stick in a "clean environment" is doing the trick so far. It's a PitA but I'll jump through any hoops to actually get this to work; I've been fiddling with different combinations of solutions for weeks, and I don't know if it's a fault of the drives or the computer or what, but corruption has been a consistent issue even when I try to avoid deleting things or starting with clean USB wipes or the like and hopefully this'll keep things stable.

I'll admit, I was bummed when I saw the specific language in the RB4 press release saying they DIDN'T intend to make yearly games. I was hoping for Rock Band 2015, ala Rocksmith, with yearly engine upgrades and small (~30) on-disc songlists. I guess title updates are easier now than they used to be, so we can hope for QoL improvements via patch?

As far as I could tell this sounds like this is their intention, to upgrade the core game as a platform rather than a franchise.

C3 is one of the most amazing mod projects I can think of. You guys have done fantastic things for the game and it's rare to see modders come together to make something so much stronger as a whole. :D

The actual C3 release for this week includes a 3-pack of a band that has never been in Rock Band before (not counting community customs) -- surprisingly so. I was wondering with friends this week why we haven't seen any Elvis customs.

Which is the wrong guess, I'm sure.

As somebody that busted my pedal 5~6 times during the RB1 days (and replaced every time, thx EA), I ended up getting some custom metal plate you drilled into the pedal and that RB1 pedal has lasted ever since. I didn't switch to the RB2 pedal because I preferred the weight of the custom plate.

On a weirder note, I ended up finding a Rock Band Stage Kit for $3- I don't know if it's working yet, but any idea of what kind of fog fluid to get for this sort of thing? I see several answers out there, but figure it's worth asking directly here.

I thought Rock Band 3 was compatible after patches? Just not perfectly so because the songs no longer were custom-designed to actually utilize it, it's just a patch based on BPM or other basic song information.

A basic question as I get back into RB3 modding myself, coincidentally:

Is there a good reason to fold song files into packs (does it improve load times, for example), or is it fine to just have them all as individual files?

I think for now I'll just do them as individual tracks since that makes it easier to track anything problematic, and then later on I can pack them up once I feel like everything's working properly. Thanks!

And yeah, Dropmix's writing has been on the wall for awhile, it's just a really hard thing to market and the confusing way Hasbro went about things didn't help. Still missing two of those promos myself.
