Nothing beats the 5 dollar chicken (that's also like half again the size of a $7 Kroger or Sherm's chicken). HOWEVER, they also make the best chicken noodle soup I've ever bought from a store. It's not like the rest of their soups, which are all those double-packs shipped from the distribution centers. No, the chicken soup is made in-house from the unsold rotisserie chickens (I'm pretty sure, anyway). It comes in a giant square clear plastic tub. The price is probably about what you'd pay if you bought the equivalent volume of fresh soup from a Kroger or something. But the Costco chicken soup blows away the bland, thin offerings from the competitors in the flavor and ingredient departments. The broth is the thickest, most flavorful chicken broth, the box is jam packed full of nice big chunks of chicken and veggies; it's almost a stew. You don't fish around for solids with this soup. I've had head colds where I couldn't taste jack poo poo and nothing appealed to me, and this soup was still goddamn delicious. It alone has nursed me through some pretty nasty bugs.

Honey is very shelf stable because it's pretty much nothing but sugar. It may crystallize at some point but it's still good to use in that state, just harder to serve. My favorite thing about Costco is that I bought an Xbox360, bundled with extra controllers, headset, charging cables and battery packs for less than 300 bucks, back in 2008. When it RROD'd about 3 years later, Costco swapped it out no questions asked when I showed the receipt. Thanks Costco!

Now's as good a time as any to point out that perfectly good pots of honey have been unearthed from ancient Egyptian and Georgian burial sites, thousands of years old. Honey can be decrystallized, too, if that's important to you or your recipes.

Only suggestions I'd make are to add a cup or two of water to the mix at the outset and let it cook off (even on low heat it was losing too much moisture), and to strain the sauce after reducing. Otherwise it's fuckin' great

I get out of work at 8 PM, and the Costco that's 10 minutes from work closes at 8:30. That is the only time I'll ever shop there, or even stop for gas. I have the whole store to myself, and the gas pumps do stay open at least until 9. Going during a lunch hour, or worse yet, on the weekend, is insane.

And please, for the love of all that is Costco, don't be the line of idiots all waiting on a specific side of the gas pump. The hoses are long enough to use on both sides, people, please... read the signs... Also the pumps are most definitely open before store hours as well. I think at least 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. at my old store. No one goes in the morning, it is fantastic. Just got back from Costco, bought: a 4-pack of Hebrew National Superior Beef Dogs, skirt steak for steak n' eggs, eggs, milk, cucumbers, and I guess some Starbucks frapps for the boyfriend. Also, frozen yogurt for breakfast while he had the blessed chicken bake. I love Costco. The trick is to get there when it opens (or about 20 minutes before closing). My old Costco in California would open the doors ~15 minutes before their posted opening time and that was so awesome. This one north of Chicago doesn't do that but we still get out within 25 minutes or so. edit: omg thank you costco Primpin and Pimpin has a new favorite as of 18:06 on May 17, 2015 |

The not opening 15 minutes before posted opening might be regional because that is required here unless we are so screwed picking up pallets that we need to keep the forklifts running a few extra minutes. I love the people that are shopping and get mad at me scrubbing the floors and ask why can't I do it at night. It's because we still have forklifts running product all around the warehouse until the second we open the doors for you animals to come in. And if you slip your footing walking behind a machine scrubbing the surface of the floor two seconds after it passed you deserve to fall you dumb poo poo.

Costco ownage. I consistently see booze for $5-10 less than at other places. Also we got some coffee and didn't know it was full bean. We were able to pick up another one and grind it there at Costco, and bring back the other bag we had forgotten at home (we had meant to bring it back that day) and they asked no questions. Went up there expecting to haggle and explain we already had another bag ground up and they were like "Ah, didn't like it?" *boop* returned before we could explain the situation. Definitely earning my business.

I have not been able to find Chicken Bakes for a few years. They are very easy to make and replicate pretty much perfectly though, but that ruins the convenience obviously. The best value of anything is their prime beef. Also a good place to buy a whole tenderloin and break it down. You could serve like 15 people filet mignon for $6 apiece, or have prime ribeye steaks for the cost of chinese takeout. I wish they sold booze in PA.

I got a costco membership based on this thread (and moving to someplace where costco is convenient). So far I am happy with LED bulbs, Rack of Lamb for the price of ribeye, and a lifetime supply of ziplock bags. Also a new toaster oven.
