So I'm watching he Defenders without having seen Iron fist. This Danny guy is both a terrible actor and and extremely annoying character. What the gently caress. Everyone else is at least passable.

I'm also sick of the Hand, really hoping Punisher has 0 ninjas.

Doctor Strange doesn't even have a rogues gallery that I'm aware of (does he?) and he also has that Superman problem of being impossible to challenge or threaten.

Maybe his powers work differently or backfire on other planets and poo poo since they have their own magic.

I thought Strange in Thor was more that Strange kept Thor and Loki off-center. They didn't know of Strange's existence and Loki vastly underestimated Strange immediately.

Can someone explain to me Danny's power so I don't have to Google. Can he control his hand glow blast? Why didn't he just blast everyone in the conference room with Sigourney?

I'm also confused by Luke cage and Jessica's powers because sometimes they do really strong stuff and then other times the throw huge punches that get blocked easily by a ninja or stagger from seemingly normal kicks.

It's a really strong, hard to damage, glowy fist. It can also heal people by only hand-sized injuries. And think of it in TMNT cartoon terms. It can only be used on people if they're not human. So if he ever has to fight a bunch of androids he'll be useful then but otherwise you'd much prefer to have Moon Knight or someone else instead.

As for the media thinking frank is on the bombing....
When the police show up, Curtis has no way of knowing if they’ve seen frank. The police don’t know that’s not Louis. Once the video comes out Curtis has to admit he lied to police. Curtis knows frank will just handle it at this point, or maybe he tries to explain but the media will have already run the story.

Luke and Jessica are both super strong though JJ and Luke have both referenced that they don't know the true strengths of their powers.

Their solo series were usually better portraying it but not full proof.

Worth noting that Luke and Jessica are brawlers and don't have any real formal training as fighters so that sometimes can lead to them getting briefly overpowered by a non-powered foe.

A no-prize also may be that Luke and Jessica pull their punches.

It was well done and I enjoyed it but it took up way too much time in the series. It was a sub plot that had as much screen time as the main plot, granted the main plot sucked but still.

There's this moment when Karen checks her handbag for her gun and does a silent exclamation of frustration when she remembers it isn't here. (Because if she'd only been allowed a firearm to this private meeting with a politician, she could have stopped this lunatic in his tracks!) In an otherwise good show, it just made me catastrophically angry.

On a related note, Marvel TV is, on the whole, so drat bad at creating a compelling secondary cast, and it has this peculiar tendency to assume people want to see lots of talky scenes where the secondary cast members chide the hero for whatever course of action the hero is about to take. (Hey, Stein. Hey, Karen, Hey, Foggy. Hey, Micro.)

It's boring, it's bad exposition, and it means filling your cast list out with a bunch of characters whose primary function is 'bleats a lot, attempts to prevent the plot from moving forward'.

It absolutely shouldn't have been though. The most interesting part of a magic power ninja show should not be closed door corporate negotiations. I think they just got lucky as all hell with those actors and they were able to craft something nice and meaningful out of the script, despite itself.

I fucking hate puzzles.
You know what, I'll go ahead and say it: I think Punisher is the best of the Marvel Netflix shows so far, even better than Daredevil season 1. Punisher as a franchise mostly seems to go two ways: Either they go full bore action schlock that celebrates Frank doling out iron justice (Yay!, John Travolta is getting hate-crimed and drug behind a car while everything blows up around him! Yay murder!) or they do like this show did and really lean into the PTSD and the fact that he's functionally a broken person who only has revenge to live for. I was not expecting quite so much active nihilism from Disney/Marvel (nor the borderline excessive amounts of gore, though the DDS2 prison riot scene should of clued me in better on what to expect) and it's actually kind of refreshing for Marvel's TV and Movie universe. He's absolutely not a hero, he's a broken man doing bad things to worse people and the show doesn't really celebrate or revel in the violence like it does with Daredevil or Luke Cage.

I really liked Medani and she is is probably one of the most well rounded secondary characters in the Marvel Netflix shows thus far and tactfully avoids being a racial/cultural stereotype and has a lot of personal agency and capacity to get poo poo done outside of her interactions with Frank/Micro. Likewise, for a show that talks about the emotional toll of veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, it could have been very easy to take Lewis to an outwardly racist place, especially given O'Connor's faux infowars schtick and they have Frank actively engage and shun that sort of racism with his son in an early flashback as well.

I like that they did flip a number of action tropes on it's head. In the finale when Frank tipped Medani off about where his fight with Billy was going to be, I rolled my eyes because I expected the generic action trope of "Good guy is on the ropes when the buddy shows up and shoots/distracts the bad guy long enough for the hero to gain the upper hand" and my jaw literally hit the floor when she showed up, shouted once, got shot in the head and dropped like a sack of potatoes inside of 3 seconds. It happened so quick and unceremoniously for a hot minute I didn't believe she just got shot in the head until after Frank was done with Russo and walked over to try and hold her head together. Part of me kind of wishes they had the balls to straight up kill her, but I understand why they wouldn't want to go all the way.

The only thing that really annoyed me was how quickly Micro's son and Frank's interaction went from "DO IT CUT MY HEAD OFF I DON'T WANT TO LIVE" to them playing ball in the street. What the gently caress kind of kid charming superpowers does Frank have to make a what, 12-13 year old kid come around so quick?

All in all, I think going the Punisher MAX route and pitting him against shady black ops sorts works a lot better than just having him fight mobsters like the movies and the early comic runs. It makes sense that if your were a former CIA backed special forces guy that fighting spooks, spies, and mercenaries would be a more on-point endeavor than going after another faux Kingpin/Cottonmouth

I can only hope this is Marvel Netflix catching it's second wind after the Defenders and that this is a good sign for future shows.

Pretty much. They had done zero research on the source material and just went with the "he just mindlessly kills people" approach. When someone familiar with the source material reviewed it received positive reviews. If you are familiar with the Punisher and watch the show you will like it. If you walk into it not knowing anything about the Punisher, but you don't immediately start turning TV shows into social commentary there is a good chance you will still like it.

Some of the source material was updated like instead of Frank being a Vietnam war vet, he is a vet from Iraq and Afghanistan. Overall its worth watching.
