Hmm, maybe it'll look better in motion.

I've always seen DD's costume as a really simple unarmoured deal. Like if they were gonna replace spandex, they'd use long sleeved red t-shirt kind of deal and the mask is basically a modified balaclava/bandana or something.

I guess it's just my (albeit limited) impression of who Daredevil is. Like, he's not some super rich dude able to pull together some expensive looking modified body armour in order to look like he's out of something like Kickass, and is instead just a guy (with powers) chucking on some red poo poo and beating the tar out of the lowlifes ruining his street to gently caress up the plans of the guy running the show.

He was, which is why he had the black hooded outfit originally. Maybe he takes crime money to fund his endeavors.

And this is comic movies, where viewers demand 'realistic' body armor outfits but not the means to acquire them.

I don't keep a subscription to Netflix no. I sign up for a month here and there when there's something exclusive I want to watch. I have no need for it otherwise. Like I signed up for Kimmy Schmidt after the initial good buzz and then let it lapse after that month. I did the same for Daredevil. I probably won't sign up for another month until there's something else I want to see. I mean it's only eight bucks but it's eight bucks wasted if I don't use for anything.

The way I figure it is that I pay 10 bucks for a movie ticket and get maybe two and a half hours out of it. I pay less for a month of Netflix and with this show I'll get somewhere between 10 and 13 hours. Pretty good deal.

That sounds remarkably reasonable.

I think I'll do the same to watch this and that kimmy schmidt thing, since I liked 30 Rock and hear it's similar. If I have it for a whole month I'll do some research and see if there are other shows worth watching.

I don't understand why some people seem to have subtitles for the foreign parts, some people have some subtitles and I have none.

I really only have seen the (more than) occasional Chinese and Russian subs. When Kingpin's getting Chinese spoken to him his assistant translates for him, and there are no subs when someone translates.

I'm not frustrated at all if there aren't subtitles so long as there's a way I can understand it. Them having someone translate for a character works fine for me.

I seem to have grasped that Stick and the shirtless guy is an Iron Fist reference, Nobu seems Hand affiliated and the Creel easter egg. What's the deal with Gao and her 'I'm going home farther than China' talk? Alternate dimension? Also what's the deal with the kid in the container that Stick killed? Some martial art prodigy meant to be molded into a weapon? Or was he like carrying some sort of bioweapon inside of him or something?

DD comics have a lot of mysticism and yeah, alternate martial art spirit dimensions and ancient martial arts demons et cetera.

I REALLY hope they don't do any bullshit like that to her character, but I have this terrible feeling they might fridge her in Season 2 because it's a 'defining aspect' of Daredevil or something to have all his girlfriends evil/crazy/dead. Still, by making her and foggy be a thing instead of him, maybe she might get spared.

So I am tired of Marvel movies what with how incredibly safe they play everything, how the third act is always the same and they manage to all blend into a generic style and etc etc. And I'm also tired of origin stories. I mean, hearing that this serves as an origin story for both Daredevil and the Kingpin already makes me wary about it!.

So instead of just jumping into Daredevil, I'm just wondering if anyone is in the same boat as me and if so, did you enjoy it or not?

It's not an origin story in the sense like Spider-man is gluing lamps to his face and swinging into buildings.

it's an origin of the superhero Daredevil from the city's view. Both DD and Kingpin are somewhat established in their routines and poo poo already, it's just an earlier time. Think of it like a Year Two, origin story, not an 0-day origin story. They're both shaped by events in this series that would lead them to being the Comic Book versions.

Just finished episode 13 and honestly, I think the series peaked in the middle. The third arc just isn't as strong as the second one, mostly because I think the weird double final was unnecessary. There was no need for Matt and Fisk to face off after his empire was more or less dismantled.

It was also weirdly anticlimactic. To elaborate, I feel that scene in the truck was a mistake. 'We have people everywhere' is generally overused and while I can accept a local crimelord, and that is what Fisk is at this point, buying of local law enforcement and officials, but literally having enough power to have a small army break him out in the middle of New York and holding off any reenforcement was just too much. It also doesn't really make sense given the plot of the series. It was repeatedly shown that while he had influence, but also limits. For example, I really liked that it was the secretary, not the EiC in the end who was the mole. He wasn't all powerful, he couldn't do it all on his own, he needed allies and could be thwarted. But that last scene basically made him the Joker in Dark Knight, a guy who literally ones everyone everywhere. Having him then go down in a fistfight in an alley, only too be re-arrested was kind of a letdown.I also think it would have mashed better with the rest of the series if it actually was conventional method that brought him down in the end, that Daredevil was only one gear in the process, if a necessary and important one, but that the real victors were Matt, Foggy, Karen and ultimately Ben. It would have given the series a theme different from the Big Man narrative that basically every other Superhero story has.

Spoilers for most of the series I think, though surprisingly related to the subtitles: I thought the subtitles were related to what the characters believed people knew. Anytime people thought they needed a translator, no subtitles. You had to rely on a translator. As soon as the characters knew that they didn't need a translator, they got subtitles. Gao and Kubo initially didn't get subtitles as Fisk said he needed a translator, same with the scenes with Elena and Foggy in them. He needed a translator so no subtitles. Later, we got subtitles when it was just Karen and Elena, they both knew spanish. As soon as Fisk and Gao revealed they knew each others native tongue we got subtitles, there was no perceived need for a translator. Could be wrong, but that's how my subtitles seemed to be working.

That's very true, but it seems some people weren't getting subtitles at all.

Do you not know what Daredevil's abilities are? He can't see, but he has a better situational awareness than you or I, who can see.
