Volt Catfish posted:Play Ever17. It's Uchikoshi's (same guy who wrote 999 and VLR) magnum opus. Is there an easy way to get Ever17 legally? Last I checked it was only available physically and went out of print forever ago.

Rollersnake posted:My girlfriend and I both enjoyed it. It's funny and entertaining, and the protagonist isn't nearly as spineless as Hakuoki's. The worst I can say about it is that one of the routes is a bit creepy due to the character you romance being an irredeemably terrible person, but it's nothing particularly bad by the standards of the genre. Thank God. Hakuoki's cool but I was waiting all game for something other than "stand around while hot samurai dudes do all the cool stuff" but it never happened .

I'm phoneposting so I can't easily get a good picture but I'll recommend Corpse Party for the PSP. It's a remake of an indie PC98 horror game. You play as a bunch of kids trapped in the haunted Heavenly Host Elementary School and have to find a way out. Unfortunately, the school won't make that easy for you, and it and the various ghosts inhabiting it want to put a kibosh on that by gruesomely murdering you in manners that are very lovingly narrated for your late night viewing pleasure. Half the fun is in getting all the bad ends. It also uses binaural audio, so headphones are a must (as is playing the game at night, you wuss.) Unfortunately it's a remake of a game made in RPGmaker and it shows in the presentation, however the sound design is phenomenal. Also, it's pretty anime but hey this is a VN thread anyway. I think the PC version's being released on steam this year but I think that version had original Higurashi tier art. Still a personal recommendation of mine. Also, you should inspect every toilet in the game and obey every sign, nothing bad will happen.

I choose to remain pessimistic. Oh well, at least they're good self contained stories. I'll probably try and get around to the Infinity games when I have free time.

Sakurazuka posted:If the sequel ever gets localised you might need to YouTube up the last chapter which is the only part that isn't an alternate what if scenario but otherwise it's 100% ignorable. If you're talking about book of shadows that actually was localised, but yeah just watch a video of the last chapter, it's not very good. I hope blood drive for the vita is better.

Regarding Steins;Gate Vita, is there anything I should know about going in, like game breaking bugs? VLR's made me wary ever since I first tried the PEC room.

Getsuya posted:If My Heart Had Wings is currently on sale on Steam for $5.99. If you're not totally pissed off by them taking sex out of the game then you should definitely pick it up, as it is a very highly rated VN. How many people actually care about the porn though? Isn't it just usually completely superfluous?

I'm reminded of the dude who tried to LP two porn games in a row, and got banned both times. Also, thanks! I kinda figured pickings would be slim.

Sakurazuka posted:Yeah, he was doing the A Kiss and the Petals games iirc, an all-ages one of those turned up on Steam recently but they're straight up (pun intended) porn games and without that they're nothing but an incredibly generic story and literally zero choices. I was legit surprised an all ages version existed.

jellycat posted:Aside from the games mentioned here, Flowers is really good. There's an English version of the first game due out at some point by JAST, too. It's a yuri game by Innocent Grey (Cartagra and Kara no Shojo) with a light mystery flavor to it. The art is gorgeous and the characters and the way their relationships progress (not just as girlfriends, but also as friends) are very well-written. I'm worried how much of that will survive the translation, but… we'll see. Thanks. Is this all ages or not, though?

So Criminal boys?

Like Phoenix Wright and DanganRonpa with the spot the contradiction trials, or zero escape with the puzzle rooms. If you liked Hotel Dusk, the sequel Last Window is very good (though if you're US you'll need to import it from Europe.

Getsuya posted:Guys unfortunately I think we're going to have to shut the project down. Steam is telling me if we want to put our game up on their service we're going to need to censor a few of the more questionable scenes. I can't preserve my artistic integrity while giving in to censorship demands so I'm going to release what we've finished of the project for free and hopefully that will garner enough interest that when we try our next project people will be willing to back it through Kickstarter so we don't need to rely on Steam for our sales. gently caress Gaben. Never giving steam any of my money again.
